“It's all the more reason why President Trump should be afforded the full-blown level of the sitting presidential package from the Secret Service,” said Rich Staropoli, a former special agent for U.S. Secret Service. “This is not going to stop. This is going to keep going on, and I think it's going to get worse and worse.”

Outdoor events are also harder to protect and create a barrier around, especially when Trump is moving throughout the property like he is on the golf course. In the case of Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, the property is surrounded by roads that were not entirely shut down, creating more potential for breaches like what happened on Sunday.

“At this level that he is at right now, he’s not the sitting president — if he was, we would have had this entire golf course surrounded,” Bradshaw said.

“But because he’s not, the security is limited to the areas that the Secret Service deems possible,” Bradshaw continued. “So I would imagine that the next time he comes at a golf course, there’ll probably be a little bit more people around the perimeter.”

The Secret Service begin their sweep 2 holes ahead, so the shooter was two holes away from the former president, about 500 yards. Some articles say as close as 300 yards.

I think they did their job exactly as expected for an impromptu golf game for a non-sitting president. I guess the question is, are those parameters adequate? I think the first assassination attempt was a failure of Secret Service, while this one was not. Of course, that’s my own opinion and you disagree.

I’d be curious to know if Trump often golfs at that time on a Sunday afternoon? They are reporting it was unplanned, so why did this guy go out there at that time to try to assassinate him? There should be safety in keeping his schedule secret, but it didn’t work this time.

Why did the Secret Service allow the assassin to wait for 12 hours at the golf course? The answer is simple. They failed to provide the needed security and it almost got President Trump killed.

President Trump is running for re election and deserves better protection than what he is getting. We don't want assassins to decide who our next President is. JMO.

The suspect in the apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump may have been lurking near the Republican presidential nominee's West Palm Beach golf course for nearly 12 hours before a Secret Service agent spotted him, according to a criminal complaint.

“Secret Service did exactly what they should have done, and their agent did a fantastic job,” Bradshaw said.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who ran against Trump in this year’s Republican primaries, said the state “will be conducting its own investigation” into the incident.

“The people deserve the truth about the would be assassin and how he was able to get within 500 yards of the former president and current GOP nominee,” he wrote on X.

“He’s a former president running for reelection again. We have to be able to keep him safe,” Rep. Jared Moskowitz, a Florida Democrat and member of the congressional task force now investigating both assassination attempts, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Sunday. “This is getting embarrassing for the agency, and people in Congress are bewildered why we’re in this situation now for a second time.”

While a sitting president is always afforded a different level of protection than candidates seeking the same office, a variety of credible threats against Trump and the first unsuccessful assassination attempt prompted the Secret Service to provide him with additional resources not usually offered to someone in his position.

“The Secret Service needs more help,” Biden told reporters while leaving the White House on Monday.

The retired agent could well be right. Even still, Trump needs to help the SS. For example:

- "Ok, I"ll limit my golfing to the most securable holes on the most securable golf course.

Moo...Mr Trump as a presidential candidate should realize that he cannot just live his life like a private citizen. All life choices come at a price. He does need to be realistic about the possible dangerous easily targeted areas he goes...moo

Rep. Bill Keating, a Democrat from Massachusetts who investigated the government’s failure to prevent the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, said in an interview Monday that Congress and others should increase the Secret Service’s resources and beef up its policies and procedures to allow it to more quicklyidentify and neutralize threats.

He said officials should consider surging resources to protectees such as Trump based on the threat levels they are facing, and not on whether they are a sitting president or only a candidate for office. He said lawmakers also should consider jettisoning some of the agency’s nonprotective duties, such as investigating some financial crimes.

“The index for increased violence is clearly going up,” Keating said.
He said Congress should urgently examine the agency’s needs and resources, as well as its organizational structure.

“With two instances so close together, we may not be as fortunate in the future,” he said.

The second attack on Trump occurred just as the Secret Service is preparing for one of its most challenging events, the United Nations General Assembly, which draws scores of world leaders to New York, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

On Monday, Hawley, a Missouri Republican, released a whistleblower report that he shared with the House Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump to help it with its investigation. In the report, Hawley said whistleblowers highlighted that security failures continued when Trump was taken to the hospital.

Whistleblowers called the hospital "poorly secured," according to the report, and the site agent couldn't answer "basic questions" about security.

Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump in the ear after he opened fire during the former president's remarks at the rally. Trump was rushed to Butler Memorial Hospital. A whistleblower alleged that the Secret Service agent in charge of hospital security "did not know what was going on."

Along with the allegation about hospital security, the whistleblowers allegedly told Hawley that the lead agent responsible for Trump's visit to Butler failed a "key examination" during federal law enforcement training. The person was also known as a "low caliber agent," according to the report.

Hawley also said a new allegation asserts that intelligence units that could have mitigated the poor communication between different law enforcement agencies were absent from the rally.

He called for Congress and the president to "clean house" at the agencies responsible for the shooting at the "earliest possible opportunity."

The Secret Service's inability to identify Crooks and neutralize the threat before Trump was shot is considered a massive security failure. At least five people have been placed on leave, and Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned following a contentious congressional hearing.

Presser Notes:

Security at Mar-a-Largo is the highest it can possibly be.

Routh invoked his right when the FBI tried to interview him.

Warrant on video recording device, cell phones, vehicle, other electronic devices located at previous known addresses. Numerous witness interviews have been conducted so far. Friends, family, colleagues have been interviewed.

DNA collected from items (rifle, bags, tiles, etc).

CAST team conducted thorough analysis of cell phone locations of the suspect. Compiling analysis of movements in days and months leading up to the assassination attempt. Conducted canvas to collect video from the neighborhood. Going through social media, and have received several data request returns thus far.

1997-2010 numerous felony charges for stolen good. Subject of 2019 tip where it was alleged he was a felon in possession of a firearm. Complainant did not verify initial information.

This was the highest-profile case MCSO has handled and he is proud of his team for acting efficiently, according to Snyder.

It was noted that Trump had invited the deputies who detained Routh to visit him at Mar-a-Lago

U.S. Rep. Mike Waltz has questions about “how the Secret Service allocates its resources,” saying that what works for Jimmy Carter (who is in hospice) and George W. Bush “painting in his barn” doesn’t work for Trump, given “how active he is and how the threats are coming in both foreign and domestic.”

“They need to change this and make it threat based protective details rather than just this kind of cookie-cutter approach,” Waltz advised on “America Reports.”

Per The Associated Press, Routh declared Iran “free” to “assassinate” Trump in his manifesto called “Ukraine’s unwinnable war

Gunman was unable to get off a shot, and never had line of sight of Trump.

They did have robust security yesterday, to include snipers, counter assault teams, drones, and local law enforcement.

Given all the politicians and governments he was trying to engage, I'd be very surprised if he's not known to a lot of letter agencies and countries besides the US.

MOO

Because this was an off the record movement, there was no posting up beforehand. He wasn't supposed to be there that day.

A few posts ago, it was breaking news that the States Attorney General said the case would be turned over to the Feds.
I am very disappointed in Ron DeSantis. He could have kept it long enough for DNA and interrogation by the State.

PA turned it over to the Feds and I saw Congressional hearings. Maybe you all did too. We see how that turned out.
I'm not sure either really had a choice, but I'm very doubtful that PA did. Since there was a death and President Trump was shot, I'm not sure the state had jurisdiction. I'm also not sure Florida does either, but I don't know. In theory, the feds should share that DNA, etc. (Thinking about when President Kennedy was assassinated and the County Coroner felt he had jurisdiction to do the autopsy. That didn't work out either.)

The answer is simple, for sure. It was a last minute, unscheduled golf outing, so they probably didn't know that this guy had been hanging around for half a day. Granted, common sense on all sides would be to secure all of the areas prior to bringing DJT out on the green, but at this point we don't know if that was done (watching the presser now, a reporter just asked if it had been searched, and Rowe is saying that they did a "sweeping maneuver" ahead of Trump, and that's how they spotted him).
I want to know exactly how many times this guy has stalked the golf course. IMO.
