“It's all the more reason why President Trump should be afforded the full-blown level of the sitting presidential package from the Secret Service,” said Rich Staropoli, a former special agent for U.S. Secret Service. “This is not going to stop. This is going to keep going on, and I think it's going to get worse and worse.”
Outdoor events are also harder to protect and create a barrier around, especially when Trump is moving throughout the property like he is on the golf course. In the case of Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach, the property is surrounded by roads that were not entirely shut down, creating more potential for breaches like what happened on Sunday.
“At this level that he is at right now, he’s not the sitting president — if he was, we would have had this entire golf course surrounded,” Bradshaw said.
“But because he’s not, the security is limited to the areas that the Secret Service deems possible,” Bradshaw continued. “So I would imagine that the next time he comes at a golf course, there’ll probably be a little bit more people around the perimeter.”
