“At this level that he is at right now, he’s not the sitting president — if he was, we would have had this entire golf course surrounded,” Bradshaw said.

“But because he’s not, the security is limited to the areas that the Secret Service deems possible,” Bradshaw continued. “So I would imagine that the next time he comes at a golf course, there’ll probably be a little bit more people around the perimeter.”

The Secret Service begin their sweep 2 holes ahead, so the shooter was two holes away from the former president, about 500 yards. Some articles say as close as 300 yards.

I think they did their job exactly as expected for an impromptu golf game for a non-sitting president. I guess the question is, are those parameters adequate? I think the first assassination attempt was a failure of Secret Service, while this one was not. Of course, that’s my own opinion and you disagree.

I’d be curious to know if Trump often golfs at that time on a Sunday afternoon? They are reporting it was unplanned, so why did this guy go out there at that time to try to assassinate him? There should be safety in keeping his schedule secret, but it didn’t work this time.

Rep. Bill Keating, a Democrat from Massachusetts who investigated the government’s failure to prevent the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, said in an interview Monday that Congress and others should increase the Secret Service’s resources and beef up its policies and procedures to allow it to more quicklyidentify and neutralize threats.

He said officials should consider surging resources to protectees such as Trump based on the threat levels they are facing, and not on whether they are a sitting president or only a candidate for office. He said lawmakers also should consider jettisoning some of the agency’s nonprotective duties, such as investigating some financial crimes.

“The index for increased violence is clearly going up,” Keating said.
He said Congress should urgently examine the agency’s needs and resources, as well as its organizational structure.

“With two instances so close together, we may not be as fortunate in the future,” he said.

The second attack on Trump occurred just as the Secret Service is preparing for one of its most challenging events, the United Nations General Assembly, which draws scores of world leaders to New York, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

On Monday, Hawley, a Missouri Republican, released a whistleblower report that he shared with the House Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump to help it with its investigation. In the report, Hawley said whistleblowers highlighted that security failures continued when Trump was taken to the hospital.

Whistleblowers called the hospital "poorly secured," according to the report, and the site agent couldn't answer "basic questions" about security.

Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump in the ear after he opened fire during the former president's remarks at the rally. Trump was rushed to Butler Memorial Hospital. A whistleblower alleged that the Secret Service agent in charge of hospital security "did not know what was going on."

Along with the allegation about hospital security, the whistleblowers allegedly told Hawley that the lead agent responsible for Trump's visit to Butler failed a "key examination" during federal law enforcement training. The person was also known as a "low caliber agent," according to the report.

Hawley also said a new allegation asserts that intelligence units that could have mitigated the poor communication between different law enforcement agencies were absent from the rally.

He called for Congress and the president to "clean house" at the agencies responsible for the shooting at the "earliest possible opportunity."

The Secret Service's inability to identify Crooks and neutralize the threat before Trump was shot is considered a massive security failure. At least five people have been placed on leave, and Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned following a contentious congressional hearing.

A few posts ago, it was breaking news that the States Attorney General said the case would be turned over to the Feds.
I am very disappointed in Ron DeSantis. He could have kept it long enough for DNA and interrogation by the State.

PA turned it over to the Feds and I saw Congressional hearings. Maybe you all did too. We see how that turned out.

I'm not sure either really had a choice, but I'm very doubtful that PA did. Since there was a death and President Trump was shot, I'm not sure the state had jurisdiction. I'm also not sure Florida does either, but I don't know. In theory, the feds should share that DNA, etc. (Thinking about when President Kennedy was assassinated and the County Coroner felt he had jurisdiction to do the autopsy. That didn't work out either.)

The answer is simple, for sure. It was a last minute, unscheduled golf outing, so they probably didn't know that this guy had been hanging around for half a day. Granted, common sense on all sides would be to secure all of the areas prior to bringing DJT out on the green, but at this point we don't know if that was done (watching the presser now, a reporter just asked if it had been searched, and Rowe is saying that they did a "sweeping maneuver" ahead of Trump, and that's how they spotted him).
I want to know exactly how many times this guy has stalked the golf course. IMO.
