Good to see some well thought out actions beginning to materialise to root out the #daeshbags where they hide. We can deal with Assad later.

Also good to see that the focus has been taken off innocent refugees fleeing persecution. The world has become a little saner over the past couple of days.

Right everyone; 'Now is the time for all good men [and women] to come to the aid of the party.'

:goodpost:
With all the defections and the Russians & French pounding them, I can't imagine there's that many "BillyBob's" left over in ISIS territories. (That made me laugh Hatfield)

My worry is that even with some promising results over there in Syria- what about the other territories they are working in - we are hardly going to start military assaults in other sovereign nations.
Then the worst of all, with so many returned fighters in Europe & the West - how are we going to ever neutralise the danger here? And this seems to be a generational disease - going to take decades to eradicate, if ever.

I agree. There is no doubt this is going to be a long drawn out job of trying to diminish ISIS and their followers. The key will be getting multiple nations to work together and everyone chip in to help stop them. But you are right that it is going to be a long tough road ahead.

Its really sad because way back when we first started to hear about them and when they first started invading IRAQ territories there was a window of opportunity to stop them before they gained so much ground and got so much stronger. It would have been easier to try to stop them when they were a much smaller group. But its spilt milk now and we must try to stop them now because the alternative is not acceptable to let them continue to kill random people.

I hope multiple nations will work together and unite against them.

Perfect...........

It's a shame Russia and France have to do all the heavy lifting, but our "leaders" are probably doing a group hug and singing "Kumbaya" in the rotunda.

Hi Steel, you have echoed my thoughts exactly.

As a longtime ally of France I am thoroughly appalled and deeply disturbed by the position our country has taken thus far . The level of irresponsibility and cowardice that the US Admin ("contained and winning" my a$$) has displayed in response to this assault of the French people by terrorists, is beyond sad.

If we continue to stand on the sidelines while one of our greatest international allies declares war on these acts of terrorism/terrorists, we better damn sure better be ready for France to pay us back in kind in the future when the homeland gets hit again!

I took action by sending an email to President Obama. It may be a small action but all citizens should be letting him know where they stand on the issue.

A bad sign it is indeed that newscasters are once again talking about protection of the US "homeland."

Haven't heard that godawful term in years. It is a term folks of a certain generation associate most readily with Nazism. Nazi Germany leader-criminals used that term frequently to whip up nationalist sentiment, to provoke and to deepen a sense of Us versus Them. It is an appalling term, a dog whistle, a heads up that an endless war against shadows is back in favor.

Another excuse for further tightening of the screws in the wider population privacy-wise. Think Patriot Act, etc, and equivalents in US allied countries. Let's not go any further. If you want to know the colour if my undies, don't look up my skirt, just ask (P.S. I'm not wearing any :D )

HOW TO STOP ISLAMIC TERRORISTS . . . it worked once in our History . . .

Once in US history an episode of Islamic terrorism was very quickly stopped. It happened in the Philippines about 1911, when Gen. John J. Pershing was in command of the garrison. There had been numerous Islamic terrorist attacks, so "Black Jack" told his boys to catch the perps and teach them a lesson.

Forced to dig their own graves, the terrorists were all tied to posts, execution style. The US soldiers then brought in pigs and slaughtered them, rubbing their bullets in the blood and fat. Thus, the terrorists were terrorized; they saw that they would be contaminated with hogs' blood. This would mean that they could not enter Heaven, even if they died as terrorist martyrs.

All but one was shot, their bodies dumped into the grave, and the hog guts dumped atop the bodies. The lone survivor was allowed to escape back to the terrorist camp and tell his brethren what happened to the others. This brought a stop to terrorism in the Philippines for the next 50 years.

Pointing a gun into the face of Islamic terrorists won't make them flinch. They welcome the chance to die for Allah. Like Gen. Pershing, we must show them that they won't get to Muslim heaven (which they believe has an endless supply of virgins) but instead will die with the hated pigs of the devil.

It worked in 1911, of course that was before everybody became politically correct and sensitive to the "feelings" of our modern terrorists.

I say we try it again..............

From your link:

Legend

Origins: The idea of subduing militant Muslims by threatening to bury them with pigs has held currency for many years. Just a few weeks before the September 11 terrorist attacks on America in 2001, Deputy Israeli police minister Gideon Esra suggested in the Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot that Palestinian suicide bombers be buried in pig skin or blood. In the 1939 film The Real Glory, Gary Cooper portrays Dr. Bill Canavan, an American Army doctor in 1906 Manila who "tries to protect the native population from ruthless invaders" (i.e., "Muslim fanatics"). At one point in the film, the Dr. Canavan character drapes a captured Muslim in a pigskin and proclaims that henceforth all slain Muslim rebels will be buried in pig skins, thereby discouraging their "savagery" by threatening to prevent their entry into paradise. And, of course, the above-cited anecdote about General Pershing's handling of terrorists in the Philippines has circulated widely on the Internet ever since 9/11 even made the rounds at the top levels of U.S. government

We haven't eliminated the possibility that Pershing at some point chose to deal with a group of "Mohammedan fanatics" in a manner similar to the one described above, but so far all we've turned up are several different accounts with nothing that documents Pershing's involvement.

I'm not a fan of terrorists but I'm also not a fan of internet memes and urban legends.

It's based on stories from The Crusades. Apparently something like this was done to Muslims. It was Richard I and was said to have occurred a lot earlier in history than the fictional incident.

And so it continues. When will we ever learn?

Nationalism is an ugly, ugly thing. Our Prime Minister got booted recently for his unsuccessful dog whistling to that sentiment. My opinion, of course.

When I read threads like this, I get the sense that many people would like to do something to make the situation better. I have a few tips.

First, just do the good things that you always do. Be vigilant. Give blood. Be kind to strangers. Volunteer your time, or donate money. Help a friend or a neighbor.

Second, and this is the most important thing -- go about your life as you usually do. Groups like ISIL/ISIS/IS are called terrorists because the points on the scoreboard that matter to them are the number of souls they terrify/scare. If you act like you are scared of what is to come, you let them win. And really, you have no rational need to fear them. You're more likely to be killed in a car accident on the way to church than you are to be killed by them. Heck, you're more likely to be killed by a moose or a racoon than you are to be killed by ISIL.

These groups traffic in fear. Their biggest weapons are not guns or bombs, but the media, and the fear that people in safe places feel when they hear scary things. So, if you want to beat them, stop being scared of them.

Thank you.

We SHOULD, imo, be affected by what we see, but watching what happens when so many people are terrorized and murdered all at once can warp our perspective, I think, and perceived dangers become stronger and stronger in our minds. I never want them to take us down from the inside.

Reuters report this morning on a Russian initiative:

Putin sets up commission to combat terrorism financing

http://live.reuters.com/Event/Paris_attacks_2

Reuters are also reporting that the terror cell which police are raiding in Saint-Denis had planned an attack in La Défense, the commercial area of Paris.
This has not been confirmed by official sources

I'm extremely glad the attack at Charles De Gaulle airport in France was thwarted it is very sad the hero police dog Diesel died in the process. Animals like her do an amazing service that is often forgotten. She was a lovely dog from the photos and had earned two medals. At least her death was not in vain and a police officer didn't die instead. Her contribution has been remembered on social media etc.

Hero police dog walks to her death: Heartbreaking photo shows Diesel just moments before she was killed by woman suicide bomber in Paris siege http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...urs-killed-suicide-bomber-sent-apartment.html

Not everyone views the use of 'homeland' in a negative way. I associate it with patriotism. Maybe that's not PC, it's hard to keep track anymore.

As for the shadows, that would be radical Islamic terrorists.

Ships don't sail where we need to go. We're stranded on land, will have to find a way to make sense of it all and survive with our ideals if not intact, at least not shredded into unrecognizable and useless rags not sturdy enough to clean up the blood left behind.

One cannot bomb an idea, and no free country can remain free if willing to sacrifice their own citizens' civil liberties in pursuit of shadows.

This is the perfect time to take advantage, just like they did with the Patriot Act. I've yet to see any proof it did anything to keep us safe.
