I wonder if had a safe or his stash place rigged to explode.I believe it was posted earlier that the father said to a neighbour he would hide documents/papers?
I think that is a definite possibility.

Who is this guy and what did he know? :what:
Man, this is getting weirder by the minute. Wonder why he did not seek help from British intelligence if he felt threatened. In his line of work, that is not that unusual unless he was in a blackmail situation/illegal thingy.
I read that he wanted to work for Cern and applied there according to a friend. Not really a big thing but found it interesting. Engineers do a lot of job hopping.
"One possible area of inquiry will be the work carried out by Mr al-Hilli in his professional life. The 50-year-old was an engineer and, according to one friend, had recently applied for a job at the Cern laboratory over the border in Switzerland. The complex is a European-wide centre for nuclear research and home to the Large Hadron Collider."

The inheritance family quarrel and his brother are beginning to look fairly insignificant.
I'm not into science and find it quite boring but there has been a lot of news about the Large Hadron Collider in the last couple of months.

I have no idea what it all means, if anything and whether or not it's even connected to this case.
Did Mr. Hilli know too much about nuclear science, perhaps?
Another mystery is the women in this case. The focus appears to be on Mr. Hilli but I question why the mother in law who resides in Sweden suddenly shows up only to be taken on a camping vacation? A woman who the little 4 year old child says didn't know very well?
On Monday, Surrey police said they were evacuating homes in the village of Claygate after finding items which concerned them. The £1.5m mock Tudor home has been under police guard since Thursday and police and forensic teams began searching the house this weekend for clues which may help French police find the killers.
French police have confirmed that the elderly woman found murdered in the car was Iqbal al-Hilli's mother.
Detectives had struggled to identify the 74-year-old Swedish passport-holder. Zeena, who survived by hiding underneath her dead mother's skirt for eight hours, was able to confirm her parents' identity, telling investigators who showed her photographs: "That's Mummy … and that's Daddy". However, when asked about the older woman, the traumatised child told them it was someone she had not seen often and was not sure who she was.

Meanwhile, the elderly woman shot dead in the mystery gun attack in France was the maternal grandmother, French police have confirmed.
The unnamed Swedish woman was found dead in Mr al Hilli's bullet-riddled BMW in Chevaline, near Lake Annecy, on Wednesday afternoon. Next to her in the back was the body of her 47-year-old daughter Iqbal.

French prosecutor had now confirmed the elderly woman as the maternal grandmother but hasn't named her. Is she the only surviving grandparent? Not sure I believe this was any ordinary camping holiday. Close family fleeing from something perhaps.....
I hope they're checking his other properties.....or the ones his father owned in Spain, South-France and Switzerland.
I have also thought this.Even if the little girl had not known her well previously ,they had several days together as a family, enough for a 4 year old to know she was her Granny.
Apparently police are searching her home in Sweden.
I'd like to know the answer to that question as well. My understanding is his dad passed away suddenly in May. Was his death suspicious or did he die of natural causes? Is his mother in Iraq or did she pass also? What about her dad?We know Mr. Hilli told the neighbour he was afraid for his family in Iraq. Why? I realize the political instability that still remains in that country but for some reason, I don't think that is what he was referring to. :moo:
