There continues to be such a deluge of news about events and responses to events raising some of the same issues as did AA's (alleged) murder that his (alleged) murder seems to be largely drowned out by it all, at least for now.

Still here. Still not forgetting. Still looking forward to seeing what justice can be had for Ahmaud Arbery.

Still here, too. Still not forgetting, either.

I read a powerful article today from Runner's World about who Ahmaud was as a person. Well worth reading.
Running Failed Ahmaud Arbery and Is Failing Black America

"Ahmaud Marquez Arbery was more than a viral video. He was more than a hashtag or a name on a list of tragic victims. He was more than an article or an essay or posthumous profile. He was more than a headline or an op-ed or a news package or the news cycle. He was more than a retweet or shared post. He, doubtless, was more than our likes or emoji tears or hearts or praying hands. He was more than an R.I.P. t-shirt or placard. He was more than an autopsy or a transcript or a police report or a live-streamed hearing. He, for damn sure, was more than the latest reason for your liberal white friend’s ephemeral outrage. He was more than a rally or a march. He was more than a symbol, more than a movement, more than a cause. He. Was. Loved."

Police department at heart of Ahmaud Arbery murder case 1 step closer to dissolving

The Georgia House overwhelmingly approved a measure that would let the voters decide if the department needs to be eliminated.

Critics say the Glynn County Police didn’t handle the killing of Arbery properly.

Before the people of Glynn County can vote on the future of the police force, the Georgia Senate has to also approve a vote.

If voters eliminate the department, the Glynn County Sheriff’s office would take over policing the area.

I'm still waiting for another couple to be charged with being accessories. I may be waiting a long time.

William Roddie Bryan was supposed to have a bond hearing this Friday. His attorney has asked for it to be continued. The hearing has not been rescheduled yet. All defendants in the Ahmaud Arbery murder case have asked for their court documents to be sealed from the public.

Hey sds71 - I was wonder if you could "tag" me when there is a date for the bond hearing, please? Just want to keep my notes straight! TIA! :)

My guess is that those who are going to be charged, have been charged.

In the end, charges against additional people could be facing several very high legal obstacles:

- Advocating or assisting in the hyper vigilance against trespassers is not illegal. Even focusing that vigilance on selected trespassers is not illegal.

- Advocating that trespassers in general, or even that selected trespassers be subject to citizen's arrest is not illegal. Assisting in that particular citizens arrest was illegal, but loudly advocating the concept is not.

- I think conspiracy charges need agreement to commit an illegal act and the conspirator must take a step to implement that illegal act. Thus, even advocating an illegal citizens arrest would probably not be an illegal unless the individual also took a step to participate in the arrest.

- Due to the deference given to the First Amendment, affirming the violent actions of another party- even in poor taste and using racist language is not usually criminal. For example, affirmations or justifications of criminal violence have been made by a variety of white nationalists, Nations of Islam activists etc. with prosecution being extremely rare.

I know you are probably right but hope springs eternal.

"A historic moment": Georgia Legislature passes hate crimes bill

The Georgia Legislature on Tuesday afternoon passed a hate crimes bill that will now head to the desk of Governor Brian Kemp. If signed into law, Georgia would no longer be among four states without hate crime legislation on its books.

Advocates and lawmakers renewed their push to pass the bill after the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old black man pursued by two white men and shot dead while jogging through a Brunswick neighborhood on February 23.

Republican House Speaker David Ralston has supported this bill since last year. It now heads to Gov. Brian Kemp’s desk for his signature.

The governor said he “commends the General Assembly’s bipartisan work and will sign House Bill 426 pending legal review.”

Arbery's mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones, cheered the decision in a statement through the Georgia NAACP Tuesday.

"My family thanks everyone for not letting my son's death be in vain. I know he is still with us and this law is evidence of that and I look forward to being present when it is signed," Cooper-Jones said.

@HayleyMasonTV
A grand jury has indicted all three defendants in Ahmaud Arbery case on murder charges. I spoke with Arbery's mother about the decision. She says today is a happy day.

@hope_iam
The indictment returned today formally charges each of the three defendants with nine counts: malice murder; felony murder (four counts); aggravated assault (two counts); false imprisonment; and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment.
*Cobb DA Joyette Holmes says that the Georgia hate crime bill that passed yesterday is NOT retroactive and cannot be considered in the case of Ahmaud Arbery.

All 3 charged not just with felony murder, but with MALICE murder. Wow.

Jury instructions (2013) on the malice murder charge:

Grand jury indicts 3 men arrested for murder of Ahmaud Arbery

...”The indictment comes almost four months to the day Arbery was shot while on on his daily jog.

Holmes said the grand jury decision did not take long.

"The presentation took an hour and a half and the true bill came back in 10 minutes,
" Holmes said during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

They each face nine charges, including malice murder and felony murder.

Dear @Hope4More,

Thank you so much for posting this.

Along with others, I am so glad to see that justice will be served for Ahmaud Arbery. The "malice murder charge" is certainly appropriate for this case, in my opinion.

I only wish that this had never happened to this young man and I know we all feel this way.

May the indictments provide some comfort to Ahmaud's loved ones in knowing the dedication of the investigative team towards justice for Ahmaud.

May Ahmaud's family continue to hold one another close during this time surrounded by love and support.

The indictment language is apropos & deeply meaningful:
“...did unlawfully, with malice aforethought, cause the death of Ahmaud Arbery, a human being, by unlawfully chasing him through the public roadways of the Satilla Shores neighborhood in pickup trucks and shooting him with a shotgun, contrary to the laws of said State, the good order, peace and dignity thereof.”

It says "shooting him."
Thats what the GBI saw in the evidence.
