T McMichael moved his car to swing lights toward person who stayed in shadows. "He was aware I'd caught him." He comes out of shadows and jogs into shadow of the portalet. Stepped out of car to ask him what he's doing, maybe run him off.
Travis McMichael says the guy jogs toward him reaches into pocket--cross-side. "It freaked me out." TM jumps back in vehicle. Guy then runs into the house. TM cranks up & goes home. Told dad "I just caught somebody lurking at neighbor house"
McMichael said he called police as his dad started walking down the driveway. TM told him to wait. "I don't know what's happening. I'm assuming this guy is armed. Dad's had a stroke, couple hip replacements, couple heart attacks.
The McMichaels pull up to 220. Diego P is there. Jury heard TM's breathy 911 call: We've had a string of burglaries. I just caught a guy running into a house being built." McMichael tells jury, "I was still scared. Still alarmed."
T McMichael says he thought, Him going into that house, and knowing everything's--stuff's been stolen in there, there's a connection. He thought the guy was "going back in and stealing. Breaking in. Burglarizing."
Travis McMichael says he didn't go in the house because "He acted like he may've been armed. I'm not going to follow him in there or chase or investigate somebody that might be armed & I don't have any reason to go in that house."
They continue pausing the 911 call so McMichael can illustrate why he says what he says. He told 911 guy might be armed so police would know what they're possibly walking into. No one ever saw/talked to/caught person who was in house that night.
T McMichael did talk to police that night. After all was done, Ofc. Rash showed him video of the individual going into the house that night, running from the portalet.
