Pursuant to Ken Chesebro's speedy trial request, Fani Willis has responded by requesting a trial against all 19 defendants to begin October 23rd this year.

Tell me she doesn't have a rock solid case when she's prepared for trial in less than 90 days - it'll never happen, but it sure smacks of confidence. And reading the response to Meadows removal motion lent insight that this lady is P-R-E-P-A-R-E-D.

(Sorry for duplicate info - just read upthread)

This is going to get messy, imo. Do all 19 have to agree, or will they split the trial to "speedy" and "not speedy?"

I'm guessing D.A. Willis was prepared for this possibility. She seems ready to have the trial now.

Co-defendants can motion to sever but I think Willis will likely argue against severance and claim going to trial as soon as possible is in the public's best interest especially with 2024 looming.

Caveats though: (1) She may defer to Jack Smith's federal case. (2) The judge will err on the side of protecting the defendants right to a fair trial to avoid appellate issues meaning a severance could well be ordered and if a defendant asks for delays, even if not severed, they're likely to be granted at least in the short term.

JMO

ETA: I heard former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance say last week that she believes there will be severances and multiple trials with a handful of co-defendants per trial probably each devoted to a 'chapter' of the conspiracy. Any lawyer will tell you trying all 19 together would be nigh on impossible (and 19 won't ultimately get to trial stage anyway).

I’m trying to imagine what expression Trump will adopt for his mugshot. Rudy’s was defiant and I picture Trump trying to out-defy him.

I’ll bet he wishes he could give a middle finger.

Traffic——I know less than a little about Fulton County, but here in NYC I can’t even remember how many times I was stuck in Manhattan due to a presidential motorcade coming through.

Traffic here is frozen all along the route. I recall once missing a doctor’s appointment when Obama and Michelle went to take in a Broadway play and my bus could not move.

Of course Trump is not a sitting president, but this is also no Broadway play.

I liken it to hate for what he's done to the United States of America.

I do find it very ineteresting that those who failed to show up for the Senate Hearings, even when supoenaed to do so, those with all the supposed 'evidence' they have to date failed to produce, and having had ample legal opportunities to do before the courts post-election (50+ cases tossed often by Trump judges due to "no evidence of fraud") and before the Senate (Nah - we'll just skip those legally issued supoenas) are some of the very same individuals we now find indicted.

The five states that 45 alledges fraud in all had recounts and each and every one of them still had Trump losing. Those are just facts. The fact that the power players charged here are also some of the same who failed to show up to the Senate hearings speaks volumes to me about who is actually being honest, upfront and answerable to "We The People" to provide answers. Then they begged for "pre-emptive pardons" when he finally decided the jig at the White House was up and got out of Dodge (probably why many of them want this moved to Federal Court too!!). That's soooo telling.

It also baffles me that screaming "hang Mike Pence", denigrating anyone who dares speak out against Trump (and his own very hateful speach against vast multitudes of people coupled with his open and veiled threats) via verbal and electronic means, his pre-school tendancy to name call and assign denigrating nicknames and encouraging his MAGA types to do so as well against his victims and those he perceives have 'wronged' him ... isn't viewed as hateful by the vast majority of his supporters - rather they encourage it and relish in it with chants such as "Let's go Brandon", "lock her up" and "hang Mike Pence".

To be labelled as a "hater" (what is it he has always encouraged them to be called as -- never-Trumers/RINOs etc??) for detesting what he has done to civility in this country is simply a reflection of his propganda and encouragement of him, once again, projecting onto others what he actually embodies. One day everyone will learn that he actually is just a mere mortal.
I watched LOTS of witness testimony in the senate hearings and based on that testimony it was obvious to me that in many jurisdictions the way the votes were handled was highly questionable. MOO. And I respectfully disagree with almost every claim you've made against Trump.<modsnip - off topic>

RBBM

Is that what that was? For me it came across as Batman Villian. They actually all did, especially Sidney Powell's.

It is anticipated that he will fly into Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and will have to travel via car to the jail. His route has not been made public.

Thanks, I guess there is no heliport at the jail

I hear ya! I got stuck once on Governors Island waiting for Trump's helicopter to take off from downtown. :)

I thought I wouldn't be interested in the mugshots, but I remember watching all the events unfold in real time. I watched the hearings in Georgia where Rudy and others lied like rugs. I watched the press conferences with dripping hair dye. It felt like a joke - are we being punked, I wondered? And it felt like a punch to the gut that they were lying and that Americans were believing the Kraken lady, et al, over the truth.

So, I admit, I'm getting some satisfaction in seeing the mugshots, not because I enjoy anyone's humiliation, but because it means justice is in progress.

Fulton County, Georgia Criminal Election Influence Investigation. Prosecuting Office: Fulton County, GA District Attorney’ Fani Willis’ Office. Case #23SC188947
Officials with the Fulton county court handed the indictment to judge Robert McBurney.
Proposed trial date on 3/4/24. Judge Scott McAfee presiding. Though McAfee was assigned the case soon after the indictment was handed up on Monday evening, it could be transferred to a different judge later in the process.
8/17/23 Update from CNN: Fulton County’s sweeping indictment against Trump & 18 additional co-defendants also includes details involving 30 “unindicted co-conspirators” – people who Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis alleges took part in the criminal conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election. Some of the co-conspirators are key Trump advisers, like Boris Epshteyn, while several others are likely Georgia officials who were the state’s fake electors for Trump. One of the unindicted co-conspirators who appears multiple times in the indictment is Georgia’s Republican Lt. Gov. Burt Jones. Willis was barred by a state judge from investigating Jones after she hosted a fundraiser last year for Jones’ Democratic opponent when he was a state senator running for lieutenant governor. The 98-page document alleges the 30 unindicted co-conspirators, who are not named, “constituted a criminal organization whose members & associates engaged in various related criminal activities” across the 41 charges laid out in the indictment. Unindicted co-conspirators per CNN: Co-conspirator 1 is Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch, Co-conspirator 3 is Boris Epshteyn, Trump political adviser, Co-conspirator 4 is Robert Sinners, Trump’s Georgia election day operations lead, Co-conspirator 5 is Bernie Kerik, former NYPD Commissioner, Co-conspirator 6 is GOP operative Phil Waldron, Co-conspirator 8 is Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, Co-conspirators 9 is former Georgia Republican Party Treasurer Joseph Brannan, Co-conspirators 10 & 11 are Georgia GOP officials Carolyn Fisher & Vikki Consiglio, Co-conspirators 2 & 8-19 are the fake electors, Co-conspirator 20 is unclear-The indictment says Individual 20 was part of a meeting at the White House on December 18, 2020, with Trump, Giuliani & Powell, known to have discussed the possibility of seizing voting machines. Co-conspirators 21 & 22 are Conan Hayes & Todd Sanders, Co-conspirators 23-30 are related to Coffee County voting machines, Co-conspirator 25 & 29 are a Cyber Ninjas CEO Doug Logan & analyst Jeffrey Lenberg, Co-conspirator 28 is Jim Penrose.

Case & court info from 2/10/21 thru 8/13/23 reference post #165 here:
{URL unfurl=false"]GA - Former President Donald Trump indicted, 10 counts in 2020 election interference, violation of RICO Act, 14 Aug 2023[/URL]

8/14/23: Page 15 of GA indictment says there are 30 un-indicted co-conspirators. “I am giving the defendants the opportunity to voluntarily surrender no later than Friday 8/25/23 at noon” says Fulton County DA Fani Willis. She will be proposing a trial date within the next six months. Link to indictment: https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/23909543/23sc188947-criminal-indictment.pdf
8/15/23 Update: Mark Meadows officially filed to move the election interference case from Fulton County to Federal court. The motion, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, argues that the charges filed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis (D) covers Meadows’s conduct while he was a federal official working as the top aide to then-President Trump. In the motion, Meadows’s attorneys cite a federal law known as the “removal statute,” which generally allows “any officer … of the United States” who is facing criminal prosecution in state court to move those proceedings to federal court if the case relates to actions that were part of the individual’s duties as a federal official. 8/21/23 Update: Two co-defendants in the Georgia election case have joined Meadows, the former Trump White House chief of staff, in attempting to move their charges to federal court. Jeffrey Clark, a former Justice Dept. official & David Shafer, one of the state’s fake electors, both filed notices of removal Monday. Clark is also attempting to block Fulton County from arresting him by urging an immediate pause of the state proceedings.
8/16/23: A state agency is moving ahead with plans that will determine whether Lt. Gov. Burt Jones faces criminal charges as part of a scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. Pete Skandalakis, executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys Council of Georgia, said he has reviewed the Fulton County indictment & hopes to appoint a special prosecutor to consider Jones’ actions soon. Jones is one of 30 people who prosecutors said participated in a conspiracy to overturn the election but were not charged in a Fulton County indictment released late Monday. But Jones may yet face charges & his fate will rest with a special prosecutor who will determine whether further investigation is needed.
8/16/23 Update: Per DA's office & presiding Judge - It is expected that all 19 defendants named in the indictment will be booked at the Rice Street Jail. 8/16/23 Update: Former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows is seeking to move the Fulton County, Georgia, prosecution against him to federal court so that he can try to get the case dismissed under federal law. On Wednesday, a federal judge scheduled an 8/28/23 hearing for Meadows & others to present evidence about whether to move the case. The judge noted the state court case can proceed at this time. In the filing, Judge Jones said the notice of removal & the attached indictment “do not clearly indicate that summary remand of this matter is required,” meaning there is no need for a higher court to send the case back to a lower court for further action. Judge Jones also ordered Meadows to give Fulton County DA Fani Willis a copy of the notice of removal & the order for the hearing. Once Willis receives the documents, she is allowed to submit a written response by Aug. 23.
8/16/23 Update: [Proposed] Pretrial Scheduling Order. Arraignment for various defendants shall take place the week of 9/5/23. Discovery: Defendant has until 10 days after arraignment to opt into reciprocal discovery. If defendant elects to participate in reciprocal discovery all parties shall serve discovery materials then in its possession to opposing counsel no later than 9/29/23. Motions hearings: All demurrers & claims of immunity are to be filed within 10 days of arraignment. All particularized motions & notices shall be filed on or before 10/31/23. on motions filed by 10/31/23 shall commence on 12/11/23 & continue until completion. Generalized & omnibus motions will not be considered by the Court. All motions in limine shall be filed at least 5 days prior to the call of trial. Final pretrial conference held on 2/20/24 & trial shall commence on 3/4/24.
8/17/23 Update: Fulton County DA Fani Willis has asked a judge to set a trial date of 3/4/24 for Trump & his 18 co-defendants. Willis’ proposed schedule also requests arraignments for Trump & his allies the week of 9/5/23. She hasn’t changed her Aug. 25 deadline for them to surrender at the Fulton County Jail.
8/17/23 Update: A former Justice Dept. official who served in the Trump administration & is one of 19 defendants in the Georgia 2020 election probe is seeking to pause an ethics case against him, citing the charges he's now facing in the Fulton County indictment. In a 13-page filing in D.C. federal court, lawyers for Jeffrey Clark on Thursday argued that an ethics violation case brought by a licensing authority for attorneys in the nation's capital should be put on hold until the resolution of the Georgia charges because "they involve substantially the same allegations." The D.C. Bar’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel, which regulates the conduct of attorneys admitted to the Bar in Washington, began a disciplinary proceeding against Clark in July 2022.
8/18/23 Update: Attorneys for Trump are expected to meet early next week with the Fulton County DA's office in order to negotiate terms of the bond package for Trump following this indictment last Monday. The meeting between Willis & Trump's attorneys is expected to occur prior to any surrender by Trump at the Fulton County Jail.
8/20/23 Update: The political team had pushed for Trump to be booked at the Fulton county jail on Wednesday, his legal team has been opposed. Trump’s lawyers thought Thursday was a more realistic option & intend to finalize logistics with the district attorney’s office on Monday, the people said. At the meeting with the Fulton county district attorney, Fani Willis, Trump’s lawyers are expected to negotiate the scope of his surrender, including whether the former president will have his mugshot and weight released.
8/21/23 Update: Consent Bond Order for Donald John Trump. Bond $200K. The order was signed off on by Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee. The order, which was signed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis & Trump's attorneys, says that Trump "shall perform no act to intimidate any person known to him or her to be a codefendant or witness in this case or to otherwise obstruct the administration of justice." Also the "Defendant shall make no direct or indirect threat of any nature against the community or to any property in the community; The above shall include, but are not limited to, posts on social media or reposts of posts made by another individual on social media." Trump said Monday night that he would turn himself in Thursday, 8/24/23 in Fulton County Rice Street Jail. Only Trump so far has explicit and expanded witness intimidation restrictions.

8/22/23 Update: John Eastman will surrender today, 8/22/23. 8/22/23 Update: Emergency Motion for Immediate Removal, or for an Order Prohibiting DA Fani Willis from Arresting Defendant Mark Meadows filed by John S. Moran. In order to protect Meadows from arrest prior to Court's upcoming hearing on removal on Monday, 8/28/23. (Case No. 1:23-cv-03621-SCJ) DA Willis has made clear that she intends to arrest Meadows before this Court's Monday hearing & has rejected out of hand a reasonable request to defer one business day until after this Court's hearing. See link https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.gand.319225/gov.uscourts.gand.319225.17.0.pdf
In response to Mark Meadows: "I am not granting any extensions. I gave 2 weeks for people to surrender themselves to the court. Your client is no different than any other criminal defendant in this jurisdiction. The two weeks was a tremendous courtesy. At 12:30 pm on Friday I shall file warrants in the system. My team has availability to meet to discuss reasonable consent bonds Wednesday and Thursday." Fani Willis.

8/23/23 Update: Consent bonds set: Jenna Ellis: $100K; David Shafer: $75K; Cathy Latham: $75K; Mike Roman: $50K; Shawn Still: $10K. Georgia lawyer Robert Cheeley at $50k; Stephen Lee, a pastor, at $75K.
8/22/23 Update: Request to Use a recording device pursuant to Rule 22 on recording of Judicial Proceedings filed by Atlanta News First. Judge McAfee has signed the order allowing live TV cameras in the courtroom including @ATLNewsFirst.
8/23/23 Update: Rudy Giuliani is set to meet with the DA’s office Wednesday to discuss a bond agreements. Giuliani is expected to have a lawyer with a Georgia license to represent him during the bond negotiations. It is unclear if that attorney would represent him throughout the case. 8/23/23 Update: Rudy Giuliani's bond order is in: $150,000. It also includes a provision that others' did not: If he doesn't submit to booking by Friday at noon, the consent order is void. Sidney Powell has been booked at the Fulton County Sheriff's Office. $100,000 bond.
8/23/23 Update: Motions to delay arrests from Jeffrey Clark & Mark Meadows are denied. Federal judge says that Meadows has to turn himself in just like everyone else.
Just have to shout out the work of @Niner! I use these posts for reference and they are so handy, especially in this complicated case and calendar.

LOL

"We want to put it on a T-shirt. It will go worldwide. It will be a more popular image than the Mona Lisa," said Laura Loomer, 30, a Republican former congressional candidate who mingled with other Trump supporters outside the jail on Thursday morning.

Breaking (but expected) news!

"2:30 p.m. Trump files a motion opposing Fani Willis’ request for an October 23 trial date for all 19 co-defendants listed in the indictment."

Here's the actual document, dated today, stating:

"President Trump also alerts the Court that he will be filing a timely motion to sever his case from that of co-defendant Chesebro, who has filed a demand for speedy trial, or any other co-defendant who files such a demand."
