Looking at Mr Scheiern's FB I can certainly see where the commentator might be telling the truth. The CO shooter possible link is interesting.

Has anyone found any possible links to GA WRT Scheiern?

An update with a little more info on the Colorado resident & POI in the CA murder case of his elderly grandparents;

Police Want To Question Grandson Of Murdered Glendale Couple

http://laist.com/2015/06/30/nathaniel_scheiern_glendale_grandpa.php
Police are calling Nathaniel a person of interest because he was living with his grandparents, and was not home when their bodies were found, William told City News Service. Authorities contacted many family members who were able to lead them to Nathaniel, who turned out to be in a hospital. Family friend, Jim Stone, told KTLA that Nathaniel moved from Colorado to live with his grandparents in Glendale a year ago because he was "troubled."

Police have not released details about how the couple was killed, but believe they were murdered several days before they found their bodies, CBS Los Angeles reports. When authorities arrived at the home, they found that the door was slightly open with no forced entry, and that the home wasn't ransacked.
"We're pretty confident the victims were targeted, and that it's not a random act of violence," William told the Times.
A spokesperson for the Calvary Bible Church in Burbank, a church that the couple regularly attended, described them to KTLA as a "sweet, elderly couple."

Neighbors told CBS Los Angeles that they'd often hear Nathaniel arguing with his grandparents. Otherwise, he'd keep to himself. "I'd see him on occasion, at church and passing by, but he kind of like had his head down all the time, just very quiet," neighbor Tony Passarella said.

Police also said they found several ISIS terrorist videos posted on Nathaniel's Facebook page, and are now working with FBI's Counter-Terrorism Task Force on this case.

Grandson Arrested on Suspicion of Murder in Elderly Couple’s Deaths in Glendale, CA: Police
POSTED 8:31 AM, JULY 3, 2015

A man initially considered a person of interest in the deaths of his grandparents has been arrested on suspicion of murder, Glendale police said Friday.

Nathaniel Scheiern, 34, was taken into custody Thursday around 6:30 p.m. and booked at a Glendale jail on two counts of murder, according to Sgt. Robert William of the Glendale Police Department.

He was then transferred to Los Angeles County Jail due to injuries the suspect previously sustained in a solo-vehicle car crash, William added.

Please start a new thread about the California couple if we don't have one already. This thread is for the Dermonds, and it's confusing. When I read the last post, I thought their grandson had been arrested.

Thanks.

That's my last post on this thread about the CA murders of the elderly Bill and Verna Scheiern, Bessie. You are correct, it is very complicated and confusing. Imo, the CA Scheiern case and the Dermond murders are unlikely directly related. Due to DAMIFINO bringing the information of the similar CA elderly murders case to our attention, the arrested suspect may be related to a completely different and even more complicated case; the NOCO Serial Sniper Task Force and FBI Counter-Terrorism Task Force Investigation..

This brings up a good question, imo.. 'Why is there not a Task Force created by Sheriff Sills in the Dermond murder investigation'?

Up thread, a poster whose family member is LE said they always look at the family first. Referencing the CA case, I hope they have as one member has a devout interest in swords. I don't mean to cast aspersions, I just hope they ruled that person out.

Just checking in hoping for news. After a year has gone by, it is so sad that a loving couple living their golden years in peace were so brutally murdered and taken from this life. My heart breaks for their family.

We always hear "there is no perfect murder", but in this case I question that?

Yes, Zuri, imo Sheriff Sills scrutinized the family closely and quickly ruled them out. Imo, if a family member were involved, the Dermond murder investigation would have been wrapped up in short order, as was the elderly Scheiern axe-murders investigation in Glendale CA 06/29/2015.. Their Grandson; Nathaniel Scheiern, was arrested the very next day..

I agree, 1&2&3,.. There is no perfect murder. Only imperfect investigations, due to the failure by Sheriff Sills, to utilize all available investigative resources, imo.. Imo, there needs to be a task force formed in the Dermond murders investigation, including, but not limited too the FBI Counter-Terrorism Task Force, as in the CA axe-murders investigation..

unless of the course, the case was made to look like a hit and there were no traces.............would it wrap up quickly? On the other hand, we really don't know if the D's or the children were in some discussion with someone in regards to some possible business deal and they didnt' realize the individual was uncouth.............Just speculating............wishing someone would come forward already!

Just wondering: Can the Dermons hire their own investigator to comb through the evidence? To get a pair of fresh, younger (sorry, no offense intended) eyes on this case? Is there an entity that oversees the Sheriff's department that could be brought in? Can the Governor or someone appoint a special task force?

I am just wondering what recourse the family has. I would be so frustrated by this point by the lack of information, dead leads or whatever the Sheriff's office has if I were a family member. Who do you call when an investigation stalls?

Might the slayings be the work of burglars the Dermonds walked in on?

Perhaps, Sills says, but the usual things a burglar might steal -- televisions, jewelry, electronics -- were apparently not taken.

Shirley, the sheriff says, appears to have been up and dressed for the day, while Russ, in a robe, T-shirt, boxer shorts and slippers, may have, when the killer arrived, just been into his morning coffee-drinking and reading routine.

How their killer or killers arrived is anyone’s guess.

He said Russ Dermond’s head was still missing. What he did not divulge was that the cut was remarkably clean. “It was not the skill of a surgeon,” he would say months later, but “whoever did it took time doing it.” It was as if the collar of Russ Dermond’s T-shirt had been used as a guide for a very sharp knife, the likes of which had not turned up. After an autopsy revealed no fatal wounds on his body, the cause of death was, by the process of elimination, declared an as-yet-unknown head wound. Dermond’s decapitation appeared to be postmortem. - See more at: http://www.atlantamagazine.com/grea...d-sills-chases-a-killer/#sthash.6nBtpuHn.dpuf

Could have been a filet knife used for fileting fish. My husband keeps his filet knife very sharp. Such a shame the killer/s haven't been caught yet.

Just went to the Zillow site and their home sold on May 6, 2015. I'm sure it was a bittersweet closing for the family.

Another case that is so horrendous, and goes unsolved a year later.

Bootsctr, yes it was likely a serrated filet knife used to decapitate RD, imo. Serrated filet knives could likely be found in most folk's kitchens, especially those living lakeside. Imo, the blunt force trauma COD is at best an educated guess by the medical examiner and Sheriff Sills. Imo, the COD could have just as easily been due to strangulation, since both the head and neck were missing.. Guess, the COD is inconsequential since no murder weapon was found, both methods are very up close and personal, and the tragic intended results are the same..

Doesn't seem logical that burglars would take the additional time necessary to behead a victim, yet leave without taking any valuables..

Over the past fifteen months we have sleuthed this case every which way but Sunday. Only to end up with more questions than answers, and swift justice for Shirley and Russel Dermond, their family, and friends denied.

Imo, 'the chickens have come home to roost', which is normally used to mean that the bad things that someone has done in the past will come back to haunt them.. In other words, a subliminal message is being sent to Sheriff Sills, that he has to face the consequences of the perceived unjust deeds done in the past. Though these perceived unjust deeds may be unfounded and have been committed over a decade ago. As history has shown us, time and time again, the payback or retribution for these deeds has no expiration date.

Imo, the reason that this case remains unsolved after over fifteen months is that the Dermond's murder investigation has been focused on the wrong flock of roosting chickens...

Bootsctr, I am using your link to the Macon article again. There was so much info in there.

Though Sills declined to elaborate, he mentioned the sighting of a potential suspect outside the Dermond house at 147 Carolyn Drive.

“A man,” the sheriff said, “we’ll just leave it at that, was seen on the property during the period that the murders could have occurred.”

I know we have talked about this before, but I wonder why SS said "A man, we'll just leave it at that..." Why would he add this afterthought?
He must know more info about this man than he wants to divulge. Maybe there was more than one person? Maybe the race was determined? Dreadlocks or bald? Short or tall? Weight?
