I have followed this case from the beginning, it is so heartbreakingly sad. I keep checking back for news. I still think the family has an idea of who committed the crimes or at least why. It's all too clean and complex to be a random event. Why would someone go to all the planning and care and risk for no reason? There has to be something telling in the history of this couple, and the fact that from the beginning the children stayed so quiet with very few public appeals or appearances from the family and friends, it's so unusual. I also wonder if there was a theft that LE is not disclosing.

Ummm, who is Charles Mittelstadt? (quoted in your snip, Foxfire, and I don't see him "identified" for us at the link) Or, guess we will find out Monday?

ETA: Is it this guy?

I would say yes as he's done shows with Vinnie before, and was often seen on Court TV and IN Session when they were around ... a "go to guy" for Vinnie I would think. Great that he is bringing this type of newscast to a local channel. Other clips are....

Darren Sharper case and others. OK, I've set my alarm Fox, so no need to call me at 5 am :giggle:

My fear of purchasing their former home would be where Mr. Dermond's head may show up!! Eek, what a terrifying thought!

Doubtful it is anywhere around the house or in the lake, it is the unknowing that would frighten me. I am not one who scares easily as a rule.

Was a short segment...

Per Sills - I'm not going to tell you we don't have forensic evidence, cause we do. We do have a witness that saw a man in the yard

There are two major questions.

#1 How did the killer obtain access? - I believe there was water access per Charles Mittelstadt.

#2 Why? " Unless there is some animosity in the past, it has to be robbery or extortion per sheriff Sills". ... "and he'll damn sure do it again."

Per Vinnie, "please visit our facebook page and share this story." ( https://www.facebook.com/11Alive?fref=ts&ref=br_tf )... ETA: story not up yet

Very short segment with very little or no new info imo, atthelake. Must have used a water vessel.. WTH?... Until all available resources are utilized by Sheriff Howard Sills, <GBI>, this case is only going to grow colder and colder, imo.. Tragic.. 'The Dermonds deserve justice'!

<BBM>

"Why do you take somebody's head off?" Jacksonville State University professor and former death investigator Joseph Scott Morgan asked. "What are you trying to do? Send somebody a message to peripherals to friends or associates? This is a warning or is this someone who is a raving psychotic?"

<snipped>

"I believe there is a water vessel involved in this," Morgan said. "I believe it's the only way you could facilitate this thing."

But the biggest question remaining is why kill this elderly couple?

"Unless there is some animosity by somebody here we don't know about and they were targeted for something that happened in the past," Sills said. "It has to be some sort of a robbery or robbery slash extortion."

If this theory holds, nothing has yet been uncovered to figure out the exact nature of this extortion plot. With this mystery being so violent and so brutal, until these questions are answered, and this mystery solved, the community along Lake Oconee remains at risk.

"Whoever did this is still out there," Sills said. "And they'll damn sure do it again."

Why does Sheriff Sills refuse to release a general description of the person witnessed on the Dermond's property the day believed to be when the murders occurred? A general description of this person of interest should have been released to the American public by SS in May 2014, imo.

Imo, due to the increased traffic by visitors and guests in and out of RP/Great Waters attributed to the Kentucky Derby party/s. It is very doubtful that normal security protocol was adhered too by the overworked gate guards, imo. We all know that the security cameras suspiciously were not operational during the time of the crimes. Seems, if the security cameras were fried due to lightning as a result of an electrical storm. Communications and other electrical devices in the security gate house would have likely been damaged during the storm, imo.

<BBM for Focus>

The only way forensic evidence can make a difference is if it is matched to a suspect...and so far, there is only one.

"We have a witness who saw a man in the yard on the day we believe the murder occurred," Sills said.

[...]
In front of the home, a dock for a boat provided access without going passed gated security or surveillance cameras.

I too think more info could have been released about the suspect - maybe the color of his shirt would have triggered someone to remember something.

Even in gated communities, more and more homeowners have surveillance cameras and/or an alarm system installed on their home and property. How would a person coming on a boat know from that advantage spot if the homeowners had any or not?

Excellent question and food for thought, watcher9. They wouldn't unless they had visited the Dermond property on a reconnaissance mission before, imo. Imo, this was a very well planned and meticulously executed crime that began long before May 2, 2014..
