I don't believe SS has a true suspect. What I keep remembering was that when some invasion cases happened here in GA and elsewhere after the Dermonds were killed, SS was fast to investigate for any similarities in them. Why would he do that if he knows who did it?

If SS had no evidence and no leads this case would be closed at this point. SS has evidence or he wouldn't be working this case. It has to be family since nobody has talked yet. SS is probably just waiting for them to fued

I think just like this last case he says he looks into them but is quick to dismiss

SS has all forms of evidence trust me on that, he stated early on he had all forms of evidence now he just needs to prove his theory of how and why this murder happened. He's playing a game as he sits at his desk waiting for a confession because it's the only way he can get a conviction. As soon as this recent murder happened he dismissed any connection to the dermond case which tells me he has his suspect but just can't prove it in court. NOBODY leaves zero evidence not with todays technology

I really want to believe this theory. 'Sure wish SS could do "something" (find a random trick up his sleeve) to prompt feuding and/or create evidence needed to convict.

If he closed it... then evidence (whatever form... small or great) could be released. IMO SS won't close the case without charges being filed against someone.

Hello all!
I was on this thread in 2014 as OTPTarheel and now I’m OTPTarheel2018 due to an email account I can no longer access.

My hinky meter went off watching the news last week with the “home invasion at Lake Oconee”.
o_O

I believe their was an Ohio connection to the D family. Will look.

This needs to be solved.

I know some of you may be going for the Jacksonville link, but I was thinking more in the terms of a fallout among thieves (murderers) who just happened to plan and then commit an unsolved crime and was able thus far to get away with it.

WOW! I don't know if anyone else thought it odd, but what a home for a former fireman (or a crime scene cleanup business)? That's not a home, it's a mansion, IMHO.

Posted too quick. I see others were questioning the "windfall" or how a fireman (11 years or so, no less) could accumulate that much wealth.

Welcome back, OTP! We need your help. Yes, the latest murder in that area is quite bizarre.

Not only does he own the mansion in GA, but another one just as grand in Ocala, FL. Yes, there is a lot more to this story. His real estate alone is approaching 4 million dollars!

My complaint is that SS dismissed this recent murder as being related to the dermond murders within a day of the murder. I think he was very quick to dismiss a connection as he did not have all the facts in that case by that time. You really have to dig into the recent murderers history before coming to a conclusion so if he isn't still looking into a connection then he either knows who did this ( Dermonds) or he's a horrible investigator. I'm sure he worked with the other county where this recent murder happened but there's no way he could research the murderers history in less than 24 hours it would take at least a week.. Something smells rotten in lake Oconee

Good morning all!

My apologies if this article and video from Channel 11 have been posted. From May this year- 4 year anniversary.

Don’t believe I ever saw this detailed video of RD in Publix. Those cameras are quite good. About halfway through RW talks to someone in an aisle, continues on, then leaves his cart and goes back to man...it’s the third video I think.

Have you all seen/discussed this? If so, tell me what thread and I’ll go back and read.

Good one, OTP! I had not seen this before. Seeing Russell shopping at Publix for the last time made me sad. I really want justice!

Perhaps he won a lottery? I know a man who won a lottery many years ago. NONE of his family/friends were told about it.

Theories, contradictions abound in Lake Oconee murder mystery

This information came out yesterday in the bond hearing (bond was denied). The victim had been bludgeoned/stabbed in the face and was shot in the face.

I don't think this is related to the Dermond's, but there is something more to this story and might should have it's own thread.

Here are some of my initial thoughts on what little info is out there right now on the Chad Haufler case (all MOO):

1) definitely there is something more going on than just "got lucky with family investments"
2) The victim and Chad met this past October and they are described as "good friends" in most articles. I don't define someone I just met 10 months ago as a good friend
3) Chad's attorney says they bought $130 of "adult beverages" the day before the incident and says there may have been a physical fight. What do 2 guys who just met each other 10 months ago have to fight about that is so bad and intense 1 of them ends up dead?

And these 2 homes are right across the water as the crow flies. What are the chances of that happening?

It was early on, maybe he has settled on something, like we all have

I agree that something is suspicious.

If CH did receive his money from investments, it sounds much better to say so than saying “windfall”. IMO.

Windfall immediately raises a red flag to me.
