it's all in the house anyway Kay...has been since 1999 when it was built

Dancin, The house, yes, but his DNA on RD's body or even his clothing would not have been on there previously.

You are correct Kay....my thinking was that SS does NOT have any dna from the body or clothing, anything to tie anyone to the crime, that is why he needs someone to come forward, to talk

Whoever he's questioned, maybe he needs to question more

Good! Sorry *******s....

I guess the proper authorities have looked into this case and compared to the D's
Arrests have already been made in Lake Gaston NC home invasion from above post.
One of the two suspects was charged in 2011 for previous fatal home invasion but only received a slap on the wrist for it.

No DNA from RD's body or clothing? Someone wore gloves?

I went through those same thoughts but then wondered if the Dermonds could have been an earlier inexperienced attempt. Maybe the Dermonds refused to give them money or keys to car.

Interested to know if SS still checks out crimes of this nature like he did in the beginning.

This is an excellent train of thought watcher9!! I like!

I don't know. I am learning here at Websleuths that investigators can be pretty sloppy in a lot of areas including checking out similar crimes. Sad, but true.

SS claims he has all forms of evidence and maybe he does but for the dna not to get a hit in the system is amazing. I have stated before I think the dna is from someone who has been in the house before and this is why he needs someone who knows about this murder to call him. If this was the work of just 1 killer then he was there for at least 36 hours but I highly doubt this was done by 1 person. It was definitely very well planned and executed ( since they aren't even a suspect 4 years later) I would like to know about any work the Dermonds had done on their house in the last few years as just another avenue to explore and rule out the family. I am also curious as to how busy their street is during the day and if a lot of people are out walking. This could tell if they came at night or during the day.

Key points, no forced entry, nothing stolen, in these cases, it's someone related or friends (for lack of a better term) but even KD admitted that nothing was taken in one of his interviews IIRC......Johnnyrock WHere did you find that information about a trust? Thanks!

Whew, I'd have to backtrack the search but my recollection is that each Dermond would become Trustee in the event of the death of the other and if both died around the same time, the Trustee role went to the eldest son. I'd be quite surprised if there were no Trust for an estate like the Dermonds. The whole idea is to avoid probate. As with most any Trust there is a Beneficiary List and an Inventory List. All personal property, cash, debt, damn near everything becomes a part of the Trust upon death. Priority of payments typically goes to attorney fees, then accounting fees and if indicated Trustee fees, assuming of course there is money remaining after attorney fees! Also know that it takes quite awhile (several months to well over a year) before any final distribution can be issued, in large part because the tax returns have to be filed for the both the Trust and the decedent(s). The more complex the Trust the longer it takes to finalize. I'll try to find what I recall having read about the estate.

So while waiting for more updates I started thinking. If this was a random killing they sure picked the right time and had everything figured out very quickly which is doubtful because this certainly took a lot of planning . So I doubt this was random and I think they knew their killer(s) well. Why the beheading of Mr D and not Mrs D ? was this to hide evidence ( bullet) Doubtful because if you're going to kill someone with a gun you're going to make sure the gun you use can't be traced back to you. You're not going to use a gun registered legally to you to commit a crime that would be a huge mistake and whoever did this made very few mistakes since they took caution in cleaning up so well. Why behead someone if you don't know them 1 rage against the person would probably be the best reason or perhaps revenge 2 Just a crazed person who did it for fun ( this is highly unlikely because a crazy person or someone on drugs would most likely make many mistakes that would lead to them being caught.

This reeks of rage or revenge in every way. If this was a random killing they would have stole something of serious value ( nothing valuable was missing according to SS
This wasn't done by someone with no criminal record this was the work of at least 1 criminal and his prints or dna would have been found somewhere .
The house was left in great condition except for a lamp shade which tells me at least one of the killers knew the layout of the house very well, nothing damaged or taken tells me they didn't want to damage stuff they would get later when the house was turned over to the family.
The family being very silent for the past 4 years raises concern after their parents were brutally murdered yet some of them were out boating 2 days after Mrs D's body was found in the lake ( very odd if you ask me) SS having a cold case team in Jacksonville look into the case when it was only 4 months old strikes me as odd since Jacksonville is also where 1 of the sons lives. Calling a cold case team after only 4 months is not normal. My bet is this was to keep an eye on the son to see if he did anything odd. I bet they are still watching him

Makes ya think doesn't it.?

Any updates from th good sheriff in this horrific crime? In just a few days, May 6, it will be 4 years, oh my, has it been THAT long since the finding of this elderly couple?! Justice must be served, I pray there are new leads in this case. We are all looking for updates in the news in a few days... as KD said," it gives the family peace to know they aren't suffering any longer" ..........and hoped their mother was dead only a few days into her missing

I somehow thought they were living wonderfully in their golden years

RIP....may justice be served
