Actually there are two little islands out in the water by the dam and across from the boat ramp.
Icky map. Look straight below the G in GA.

There are far fewer homes at that end of the river and especially on the Greene County side. Large tracts of land with no dwellings at all whereas the other end of the lake is very populated with lake front homes. Makes sense that if someone were going to dump a body on that lake that it would be there. This further corroborates the theory of a planned event.

I have not commented on the community and the security both implied and real of the Dermond residence til now.

What I will say is - wow. But if we are asking these questions and holding this exclusive gated community responsible or in low regard, do we not have to question why prospective buyers did not do likewise if security was something that was a priority?

Devil's Advocate.

I think that it's no one's fault but the killer and any involved

I hate the blame game, cameras don't kill people, people do, gated communitys dont' kill people, people do, guns don't kill people, people do

Gated communities without a gate is an oxymoron, or built by a moron LOL

Even with gates, it really serves no purpose, people can slip right in without the code behind another entering

The that found her is just a good old redneck. I watched an interview. He just wants his money. My bet is he had absolutely nothing to do with this. Just a good boy that got put in a bad spot due to timing.

If you are a southern redneck too, applaud your proud use of the term redneck. I live in ATLanta, and I have no issues with the term used amongst us southerners. Although most folks outside of the south... it is a derogatory term. But I digress for another thread....

"Most definitely" a homicide but no signs of trauma. How does he know? Could the victim have been bond? Would that not be categorized as trauma? I was thinking maybe she was in pajamas or other sleeping attire and that caused him to think it wasn't a drowning.

I was just thinking the same thing. I don't think someone in pj's is enough to determine if they were murdered. I think it has something to do with ligatures or maybe something around her neck. I find it strange that he is so open about the fact it definitely is murder at this point...before autopsy.

Obviously, it's going to be murder, but how can he express this so publicly? Even if someone had rocks in their pockets doesn't always suggest murder. There has to be something about her body, not injuries, but maybe the way her hands were tied, or something that shows 100% she couldn't have got herself in that position without help.

I just used Google Earth and traveled the lake from the Dermond's to the dam. Eerie thinking about how many docks and houses they had to have passed. The children said they kept the doors locked and alarm on at night. So if this happened at night, somehow they got lured outside. If it happened in the day, the murderer must have had knowledge the Dermond's had no security cameras otherwise why return to the garage with Mr. Dermond's body? Wonder if the LE are checking into alarm company employees? The neighborhood camera quit functioning on the 28th of April.

Anyone know about how long it would have taken for a boat to get from the Dermond's dock to the dam? What about satellites?? Could they have picked up boats at the dam????

Good point MO re: pajamas. I suppose that if she were in anything but a bathing suit, that her being found in the water would be considered unplanned. I'm hoping that LE gets a good lead soon. Frustrated that we don't have more info, but glad they are keeping details fairly quiet for a future trial.

I wonder if he (Mr H) also lives in the RP area? Only reason I question this is... he may deserve the reward but does he NEED it? :dunno:

SMH......huh?

First comments I have seen from family:

Cher352 thank you for posting this I was hoping the family would make some kind of statement my heart just aches for them and others who have missing family members that has got to be a terrible feeling especially with what happened to Mr D. Also glad more photos are popping up of Mrs D just don't understand how someone can do such evil things to another human so very sad. This case just haunts me with the fear these 2 must have gone through, I wonder ( I apoplogize if I missed this) did they have a house alarm on their house?

Exactly. Exactly. I grew up around middle ga and have lived in rural ga all my 43 years. He is just one of us and like everybody in rural ga just trying to work hard and survive.

Well people do dump their Christmas trees in the lake for fish cover, but I'm not sure if this is what this means...

:notgood: :sheesh: :thud:

the water is 50' at the dam, no christmas tree debri is sticking up

sounds like closer to the shore,

hung up, southern lingo (WILLERS) possibly meaning "stuck" "caught" on a limb hanging over the water

I didnt' get, as in a hanging

but then agian, more confusing reporting !!

Oh guess what there ARE gators EVEN further north!

Amazing you would think these things would stay below that theoretical fall line. I guess they can't read maps and simply like water.

From the article:

Bemisderfer says it's very rare for an alligator to travel to metro Atlanta. He believes someone released the cold-blooded animal into the wild after it outgrew its home.

"Almost a certainty that he was released as a pet and just has found a way to survive," Bemisderfer said.

Guess them sleezy tourist traps in Florida are still doing bidness.

Okay, I'll bite. NO pun intended. So why was Mrs. Dermond found in the lake? The article says there is no indication of trauma to her body. I know alligators get into people's garages and up in yards and under houses. It just doesn't explain Mrs. Dermond.

Ummmmm... consider the perpetrators came by boat...left by boat...she left on the boat but then was discarded over the boat... and then..... consider, alligators were not involved.....

If you use Google Earth and adjust the satellite datum to 2008 or 2009, when apparently the pictures were taken in the fall, you can clearly see that the cove the D's house is located in is surrounded by other homes having a direct view of the water. The properties are not really that far apart. The D's property about 100 feet from the waters edge. The garage maybe another 50 feet.

A perp arriving by water would be exposed on three sides when entering the cove, which is narrow so this would have to be a very stealthy operation hoping that none of the neighbors has CCTV, a dog, or happens to be looking out.

Unlikely an opportunist dropped in to do this. Unless a team of Ninja's with swords did it, the perp is a four footed "drifter".

Cuss that's whut it means.

In all seriousness, there are waves constantly moving toward the shore. The body was probably dumped on the way back to wherever the perps were getting out of the lake. Assuming even the middle of the lake, its only about (at most) a half a mile to the shore. Once the body became mobile (MO bile :D) it shouldn't take long to drift to the edge where it was snagged by the local flora.

WOW! Not sure what to say or think. . .

By what authority? The DNR? If so please show me where DNR has made such an assessment.

I haven't seen DNR make the statement but earlier today on this thread it was discussed and a local said the location of the lake was too North in the state for gators and something about the type of water.

This was also linked:
American alligators are found in the southeast United States: all of Florida and Louisiana, the southern parts of Georgia,

Atlanta is southern anymore.

From the article:

Guess them sleezy tourist traps in Florida are still doing bidness.

The Florida Everglades and most of Florida for that matter are over run with exotic and very dangerous snakes that were abandoned by "idiots". Tourists have been bringing baby alligators northward for decades. It is no surprise when they turn up in a sewer in NYC, nor should it be a surprise that they are in the middle of GA. The DNR says that GA has 200,000 alligators and that "MOST OF THEM" are below the fall line, which is only two counties south if you include Putnam.

So if 99% are where they are expected 2,000 of them are roaming the counties and waters north of the line.

To say there ARE NO ALLIGATORS in Lake Occonee is silly. How does anyone know that for sure?

So I will let the rest of you stick 8 x 10 glossy photos of suspects on your kitchen wall and wildly connect those push pins with orange and yellow yarn to print outs of arrest warrants, legal notices, tax records and deeds from AZ.

Can we please stop talking about a gator? There is no way a gator is responsible for Mr. D's decapitation? Think about it - the circumstances reported would have been totally different! And why would Mrs. D. be missing too? She has been found now.

We all have different opinions, but this gator talk is absolute nonsense! MOO

I'd like to point out where the Dermond's home is in relation to the dam.
The dam is marked by a yellow box towards the middle right of picture.
IMO there is no way Mrs. D traveled on the lake floor and ended up at the dam.
I did look up the water temps ad I believe it was reported as 74-80° - that is the top few feet.
Whether she was in 20 ft or 50 ft water it would be much colder.

on the sinclair side, the dam pushes and pulls water just like the tide in the ocean but slower however it's still quite fast and you can sit and watch shtuff float by all day

but that is on top of the water

On the other hand, we lost a lightweight metal chair in a storm, found it 6 years later, right beside the dock underwater, never moved it appeared once it sunk, however, it doesn't float and there are no gases

I think she was dumped near the dam or atleast away from her place, too many curves in the river, wouldnt' she have gotten hung up elsewhere and sooner? And I dont'think the current would be as swift if dragging along the bottom of the lake or if anchored
