:modstop:

we don't talk about family period. I don't care if they rented five cruise ships and sailed to East Africa and ate grapes.

Move along please.

The increase in reward does not open up the doors to discussing family members.

From Eatonton Messenger FB:

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills has announced a new reward in the Dermond murder case. Reynolds Plantation has donated $30,000, and Sills is seeking additional contributions. He has established an account for tax-deductible donation at The Peoples Bank. Read more online and in Thursday's edition of The Eatonton Messenger.

Sills said: I will admit though, that I have yet to go down a road that we believe to be the correct route of travel.”

also, this is an ADDITIONAL amount so the total isn ow $50K?

article reads: inform me that Reynolds Plantation will contribute $30,000.00 to the fund,

maybe the Dermond's family donated to this fund they are RP residents now

My thoughts especially relate to the age of the people recoverd from the lakes.
Most drowning around here are usually male and 18 -30 years of age. NOT over 50.

That happens, all ages, not so many at one time tho, in one lake, in one month, eery

WSB:

Mark Winne's report was about the reward letter from Sheriff Sills.
He also stated that Richard Elliot is "racing" out toward Putnam County to provide more extensive coverage on the 6 PM broadcast.

  • #885
By the tone of Sills letter it sounds like he is saying a significant amount of money will make someone talk. What is the dollar amount that will make wealthy people talk? If I or family were worth millions, then $30,000 or $50,000 would not entice me to talk.

Therefore, is Sills saying the person he expects to tattle is not of the wealthy set?

I also think Sills should have a CrimeStoppers phone number so people could call in anonymously.

 I think some people may have been born grumpy.

If this case remains unsolved it sure wont have anything to do with Sills' inabilities or age. He is a very smart man with years of experience. He is no where close to retiring. You can tell by watching him he is a very energetic individual who is a quick thinker.

If the evidence is there an arrest will be made. If it isn't then they will continue to search for evidence just like they have done in so many other cases. There is no statute of limitation regarding murder. Some murders are very hard to solve. In fact around 35% of homicides go unsolved. Will this be one? No one can really say.

But many cases have been solved years or even decades later. People had just about given up that Holly Bobo's case would ever be solved but all along behind the scenes the investigators were working the case hard to bring about arrests.

We already knew pretty much that this killer didn't leave much behind in the garage and if the police does not know the actual location of where both murders happened then it is logical that this was going to be a hard case to solve.

It will happen when it happens and when they have amassed the evidence needed to bring about an arrest and trial.

I would much rather have Sills and his investigators take their time because they know the DA only gets one bite at the apple.

Imo, this killer is an unusual suspect which makes the case harder to solve.

Imo, the usual possible suspects have already been investigated and ruled out behind the scenes.

This case unfortunately may never be solved but if it is I sure wont blame Sills. I think if anyone can solve this case it is Sills. He is passionate about what he does which means he will always try to find the answers he needs to bring the killer to justice.

That is all we can ask of any police agency.

IMO

Prosecution should not be the priority if a stranger/slight acquaintance predator is responsible, imo. Pychopathic predators are recidivist, will escalate, and grow more brazen with each successful kill.

Public Safety's primary goal is the saving of Lives and property. The Dermond's lives have been lost. Once a psychopathic predator has been identified they will go on the defensive and remain dormant in most cases, imo.

It is critical that Sheriff Sills lose the antiquated ego and request the investigative resources of the GBI, imo..

Foxfire, we do not know what the LE has in this case and if they feel the need to up the reward related to the case to get more information maybe we could focus on that versus calling him an antique. He clearly is running the investigation and working with the fbi and if ircc the gbi is doing did the posts. Don't rely on the media to know where LE is in a case. The Sheriff has his personality and he won't lose that. If you like it fine. If you don't fine. But really this seems to be a joint task force focused on solving this case. We may not hear who is involved or what they are doing but they are working. We have to wait and be patient.:twocents:

Nursebeeme, sorry, patience is not one of my virtues. Nor is it one of the Dermond family's virtues according to the following ms media article..Why would you squander a very valuable and free investigative resource? I didn't call Sheriff Sills an antique(HS is prolly younger than I am). I called his ego antiquated. jmo

<sniped - read more> Cartersville(GA) Patch News

Other than using the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab, Sheriff Howard Sills has refused to request the GBI Investigators to help in the high profile case.

The Dermond's son Keith Dermond of Jacksonville, FL told WSB news that bringing in more investigators would be a good idea. "The more resources, the more people, it would be better off. I don't know why the GBI wouldn't be involved", Keith Dermond said.

but apparently, yes, they have no leads yet

Hey sweetlings...popped in to see what was new. In light of what happened in Wisconsin is it possible this is some sick role playing game ???????

I was busy getting dinner ready but I did hear Mark Winne on again during the 6 PM news. I don't think Richard Elliot has filed a report yet. Winne said Richard Elliot was on the way to get more info so maybe and updated report at 11? I really don't know. Wish I could have stopped and listened again.

So, I am guessing the fishermen who found Mrs. D. did not get the reward. ty

On May 14, FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett of the bureau's Atlanta office, confirmed the FBI was offering "up to $20,000 for information leading to the location of Shirley Wilcox Dermond and/or the arrest of the individual(s) responsible for her disappearance." He has not responded to a request for information about whether any payment would be made to Dennis Higgs, the 49-year-old Putnam County resident who discovered her body along the tree line near the dam.

I believe there are certain cases where rewards can be instrumental in bringing them to a conclusion. As an example if the Dermonds had been in a park and there were witnesses and nobody "wanted to get involved" from fear or possible retaliation, a reward could help them relocate and be beneficial.

I don't believe this is a case like those. I do however feel that this is financial, greed and self preservation. And all the reward at the lake won't stimulate the clues or evidence to bring a prosecution to a conspiracy.

I really think the wording of that is very safe and guarantees they will never have to pay the reward. No one is going to implicate themselves by revealing who is 'responsible for her disappearance'. That to me is a confession. A catch 22. jmo

How exactly does LE protect the public by arresting and charging someone who is then not prosecuted and released for lack of evidence or a speedy trial? IMO the two are tied intrinsically to one another. Successful prosecution IS insuring public safety isn't it?

Not that it matters because it is MOO that Sill is lost and has run out of avenues to pursue without some new info or lead coming in.

Reynold's Plantation has Pledged 30 Thousand Dollars in Reward Money.
And Previously, (snipped by me....) "The FBI has already offered up to $20,000 for information about the murders."

I am wondering how Much the reward will increase by....
And I am wondering since it has been a month already..... that there is a Strategy
to NOW having reward donations..... I mean, he is asking the public.....
If it doesn't accrue by much, would that be telling? If it accrues by a lot, would that also be telling?
IMOO.
