And I think you underestimate him, IMO.
There's more to a murder investigation than just identifying a POI and publicly proclaiming it. Sometimes you have to watch and wait, build up a case, gather more intel.......cross all of your "Ts" and dot all of your "Is" because you want to ensure you have the most solid evidence/case to go before the courts. IMO, the fact that we've received no real significant updates says to me that there are lots of things going on in the background that we the public can't be privy too, for obvious reasons. Part of a murder case is to establish an M.O.....and maybe more time and behind the scenes investigation is taking place to gather such info. Not sure why you seem to come across so pessimistic and with such a chip against Sills. *shrug*

 I think some people may have been born grumpy.
If this case remains unsolved it sure wont have anything to do with Sills' inabilities or age. He is a very smart man with years of experience. He is no where close to retiring. You can tell by watching him he is a very energetic individual who is a quick thinker.
If the evidence is there an arrest will be made. If it isn't then they will continue to search for evidence just like they have done in so many other cases. There is no statute of limitation regarding murder. Some murders are very hard to solve. In fact around 35% of homicides go unsolved. Will this be one? No one can really say.
But many cases have been solved years or even decades later. People had just about given up that Holly Bobo's case would ever be solved but all along behind the scenes the investigators were working the case hard to bring about arrests.
We already knew pretty much that this killer didn't leave much behind in the garage and if the police does not know the actual location of where both murders happened then it is logical that this was going to be a hard case to solve.
It will happen when it happens and when they have amassed the evidence needed to bring about an arrest and trial.
I would much rather have Sills and his investigators take their time because they know the DA only gets one bite at the apple.
Imo, this killer is an unusual suspect which makes the case harder to solve.
Imo, the usual possible suspects have already been investigated and ruled out behind the scenes.
This case unfortunately may never be solved but if it is I sure wont blame Sills. I think if anyone can solve this case it is Sills. He is passionate about what he does which means he will always try to find the answers he needs to bring the killer to justice.
That is all we can ask of any police agency.
