This last line in the Daily Mail article could be telling, "They were so close. Betsy was his protector. He shared with me several times, if it wasn’t for Betsy he’d be broke or dead."

One could go several ways with that statement!

But why would anyone bother bumping off a 95yo man? it is highly unlikely he had any drug debts or involved in any dodgy activities, he lead a very reclusive life and likely had no enemies

If nothing was stolen as police said why would someone go through the trouble of killing a 95yo man

The only one who might have got past the dogs/compound cctv to get in the house and kill Gene/wife would be the security guard or the maintenance guy, why would they want to kill a 95yo?

Beneficiaries of his Will in the event his wife predeceased him. That’s who would have benefitted

To play devil's advocate: we don't know what evidence the police have though. It's possible they have CCTV footage, and are not sharing it with the public.
ok,

lets go your route and use the known information.

2 people 1 dogs dead in the house.

Who died first?
Did all die at the same time?

The man in the mudroom?
The woman in the Bathroom?
The dog in the kennel cage?

Was there urine in the dog kennel?

Did the humans know of one another death?

This is the very basic of questions.

Why did the other dogs live?

The 911 caller said the doors were locked.
The deputy found the door ajar. Who left the door open?

I just takes one wrong/right answer to make this an homicide.

Am not a lawyer so maybe an actual lawyer can confirm but wouldn’t a death where there was suspicious circumstances result in all his assets/estate being frozen for potentially even years? while investigations etc take place? His estate would be tied up in legal stuff for years? nothing to gain by a family member bumping him off

The 911 call just seems odd. No, everything seems odd.
Maintenance/groundskeepers could easily be undocumented, which could make them very reluctant to get involved or enter the house. Likely safer NOT to try all the doors.

Didn't the Sheriff state there was no cctv on the estate or in the house?
Sheriff stated there was no surveillance inside or outside of the house in the presser yesterday.

Presser at time when stated:

No. The billionaire Sherman couple were murdered in their house in 2017 in Toronto. Their estate, which went entirely to their children, was settled in under a year. I suspect the same thing will happen here

In which case a perpetrator would have ensured the circumstances were clear that she had died before him.

In the UK when two people have died in circumstances where it is not possible to ascertain which of them survived the other, the older person is deemed to have died first. Would that be the same in the USA?

They had been married for 34 years, unless there was a sudden recent change in his will I can’t understand how it would suddenly become an issue after all this time, even if there was, such as an offspring being written out of the will then am sure police will be reading through his will with a fine tooth comb

A very sad case but with Carbon Monoxide and any Major trauma ruled out I think for me the most likeliest scenario would be that Gene died having fallen to the floor and couldn't get up whilst trying to get to a phone or some help for his wife I believe his wife died suddenly due a fatal heart attack or cerebral bleed or similar
With the dog being caged it's sad but irrelevant really as its death was just a consequence of theirs.

I want to correct something here. No doors were ajar. The reporting parties, Roland B and Jessie K, did not make entry. They waited for the police who found a main door was actually unlocked, and then found BA and GH in that order.
But it's been stated repeatedly in media that a door was ajar: These are two among many mainstream media articles that assert this:

The front door of the couple’s home was “unsecured and opened,” according to the warrant.
There were two healthy dogs found on the property, one “running loose” outside and another inside by Arakawa’s body, which was located in a bathroom. The deceased dog was in a closet of the bathroom
approximately 10 to 15 feet from Arakawa, a classical pianist.
According to the search warrant, police found “the death of the two deceased individuals to be suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation because the reporting party found the front door of the residence unsecured and opened,

One thing I noticed in photos of GH is he often wore a hat. He also wore his sunglasses on his hat. He may have been wearing his hat, with his sunglasses on his hat, in the house, at the time he fell and the sunglasses had nothing to do with coming in the house from outside or planning on leaving. Looking through hundreds of pictures I haven't found one picture that shows GH actually wearing sunglasses on his face.

One other thing to note is the temperature on the 17th when his pacemaker recorded it's last event it was cold outside. GH was not found wearing a coat or vest as he was photographed wearing outside more than once. Historic weather info linked below.

This is just one example, but I have a wealthy family member (by marriage, not blood) who is Gene Hackman's age, mid-90s. She has millions! She keeps telling everyone that her will is not decided! I'm not messing with you. It's like, she doesn't want everyone to know what they're getting (her three biological kids, + four grandkids). Her husband is deceased from over a decade ago.

2 out of 3 of her kids regularly get money from her. 1 of her adult children is completely dependent on her financially. She supports at least one of her four grandkids as well (& great-grandkid).
What will happen when she passes away? Who knows! Everything should just be divided equally, but since her son is dependent on her financially, should he get more? One of her daughters is very well off - should she get less? Idk.

Money? Life insurance policies / wills/ etc?

If/ once wife died, who would of been the beneficiary?

If his wife preceded him in death, the question would be what does the will say? He could have left it all to charity, or his children, or anyone else that he designated.

A house that size must have more than one outside entrance door, though.
I think so too, and if the caretaker always used a certain door or was asked to, he would've gone to that door out of habit IMO. If it was locked and he saw two bodies on the floor inside either through the door window or one beside it, I would guess he would be shocked when then calling 911 and not go to another door to try it! I would probably be frozen on the spot, call 911 and not want to try to venture inside, but wait for police!

I suspect foul play. Reason, they seem to have died while in an act of 1- taking medication, then falling, meds all over, heater falls. 2- while going outside, door open, sunglasses on or in hand. It probably was morning since the indoor dog was still in the bench, the other two outside (freezing temperatures). Lady taking her meds, man on his way to the garden. No two sudden deaths, or suicide together in different rooms. IMO
