How can one look at medications that were ‘possibly’ in the residence. It can’t be a maybe, either more were found to look at or there was nothing to see. It sounds to me as if he’s divulging information that more were found but underemphasizing his statement by using the word ‘possibly’ to indicate he’s not stating it as fact. JMO

“Specifically, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adam Mendoza cited an open prescription pill bottle found near Arakawa's body, first mentioned in an affidavit for a search warrant obtained by NBC News Feb. 27, as a crucial detail authorities are taking a close look at as they continue to determine the couple and their dog’s sudden death.

"That’s obviously very important evidence at the scene," Mendoza told Savannah Guthrie on the Feb. 28 episode of Today. "That information was collected, that information was passed to the office of the medical investigator to help them make a determination. So we’re looking at that specifically and other medications that were possibly in the residence. So that is something of concern."

Or drugs that were only 'possibly' being used as 'medications'?

I think what they mean is if the toxicology tests find evidence that something else, fatal, was consumed, that didn't leave a pill bottle behind - they'll go back and look for evidence.

For eg, just to be dramatic, a suicide pill.

Or, certainly, illegal drugs containing Fentanyl.

Or, speaking of Tylenol, something else that was spiked by a bad actor, as Tylenol has been. Vitamins etc.

Maybe 'should be' but IMO that won't translate to reality unless a clear explanation can be provided by police.

Examples: Natalie Wood, Kurt Cobain, Princess Diana.

I don’t quite understand - if police are unable to provide a clear and concise report on the detail of these deaths, why that would have any impact on the memories of this couple. By all reports, they were well respected by friends and associates in their Santa Fe community where they chose to live a quiet life.

Thanks for that! I wasn’t thinking of his comments in those terms.

I was meaning that the public legacy of a few famous people has been seriously affected by speculation about their mysterious deaths.

Explanation for Diana's death couldn't be clearer: excessive speed, driver impaired by alcohol, no seatbelt.
The only person wearing a seatbelt survived the crash.

The police seem at pains to point out that they aren't ruling out foul play but also most definitely aren't suspicious. They are also claiming the toxicology will take a really long time.

Does make me wonder.

JMO but if they did have suspects, or suspicions, but they also know how hard it would be to prove (due to length of time since death, pin pointing alibis, analysing phone data) it would be in their interests not to alert the perpetrator(s).

Just a random thought before sleep.

Tylenol can be deadly in quantity. Hackman's health was going downhill in a bad way months before his death: 'Homebound' Gene Hackman's health was 'slipping' before his death
Gene suffering cardiac arrest is my top theory

From the linked article:

Given the new findings, Dr. Baden believes that the retired star may have suffered from a sudden cardiac arrhythmia episode - a malfunction of the heart's electrical system that occurs when the signals telling the heart to beat don't work properly.

Too late to reply now, but may I quote SortaSleuthy who said "As I look down at my slippered feet, I think about turning 86 in May". To which I say "Book that cruise NOW!!" :)

I thought she might have been trying to get Tylenol
The warrant, obtained by PEOPLE, states that the pills found were an unspecified thyroid medication, Tylenol and diltiazem, a medication used to treat high blood pressure.
The Affidavit for the Search Warrant stated:

He advised he also observed an orange prescription bottle on the counter-top near the deceased female. The prescription bottle appeared opened with pills scattered on the counter-top.

So, that’s why I thought it must be either the thyroid med or diltiazem, which are prescription.

Neither of those is an emergency med though, I had wondered if maybe nitroglycerin was a medication that was in the home.

This friend of the couple’s words got me thinking. He said,

‘If you knew the love they had for those doggies, they were a huge part of their life,’ he said.

‘Betsy drove a Land Cruiser. Coming down the highway, all you’d see would be four ears of these huge German Shepherds, and beautiful Betsy behind the wheel.

Now, earlier the article says this friend had not seen Gene or Betsy since before the Covid-19 pandemic—so I guess before 2020? But I took notice where he says “you’d see four ears of these huge German Shepherds”. (bbm)
So, if by that he means two dogs (two pairs of ears), I am wondering if the Hackman’s third dog is a newer dog, gotten sometime more recently, that this friend was not familiar with. Could that have been the one in the crate, still a younger pup, and in the crate as part of training?

Just thoughts.

It’s strange that they hadn’t talked to family in months. Betsy’s mother has a caretaker who said that Betsy hadn’t spoken to her mother since October.

One of the daughters said it had been months since she spoke to him.

“Gene Hackman’s youngest daughter isn’t the only family member who hadn’t spoken to the actor or his wife, Betsy Arakawa, in the months leading up to their deaths.

Arakawa “hadn’t called” her 91-year-old mother, Yoshie Feaster, who suffers from dementia, since October, according to the elder’s housekeeper, Keiko.

Keiko spoke to Daily Mail on Friday, just two days after Hackman, 95, and Arakawa, 65, were found dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home, along with a deceased dog”.

Does it? He lived till 95, and the way he chose to. Even if the deaths itself are never explained, it doesn't matter. Gene had a good, long, happy life. A great talent who was successful in "getting there". Betsy lived with him for 40+ years and was "private". No one says they were unhappy. Even - even! - if something unexpected happened, there is no evidence of abuse or unhappiness.

Maybe caring for Gene was really taking a toll on Betsy in the months prior, and she had little energy to call her mother…

This article says:
Daniel and Barbara noted in the "last couple of months," the late actor “was really slipping there.”

The reporting party Roland B used a cellphone at the house, outside, to call 911, and did mention that the call may get disconnected as he headed to the gate/main road. However the cell service was fairly reliable from beginning to end, the worst being at the main gate. Assuming that GH and BA had same cell service, and perhaps even a landline, it is inconceivable that one of them had a medical event and the other succumbed later, without calling for help.

My theory rests on them dying within minutes of each other. Carbon Monoxide would be an obvious cause, however in light of none detected in the initial tests, the possibility that Roland B fumigated the house for pests in day(s) prior to Feb 17th raises a possibility.

Pest control is not limited to setting poison traps for rodents. It includes fumigation of wood boring insects with chemicals and even in some cases tenting the structure and introducing a deadly gas. I had a house tented in Florida and can assure you, that you do not want to go inside the tent. We stayed at the beach for three days. There have been several cases where vacationers have succumbed to pest fumigation at resorts where tenting was not used and areas adjacent to the room were fumigated.
I have been considering this too.

If the opened rx bottle on the counter was actually something prescribed for the dog, and not any of the human meds mentioned, how certain are we that the sheriff would have said so?

What would make them become increasingly isolated to the point that they stopped contacting family members they, reportedly, spoke to somewhat frequently?
I’m perplexed on that.
