It did read like that but maybe their long term contractor, Jesse Kessler who arrived at the scene got the door opened by the time LE arrived?
If it was locked he may have had the code or a key being he was with the Hagmans contractor for 16 years?
In his statement he said he will never speak about what he saw when he entered the home so we know that he did enter but don't know if it was before or after LE arrived.

didnt realize he said this. damn i get that he was emotional, but at that point he already knew there were 2 bodies and the medical examiner mentioned there were no visible injuries. I wonder if there were other things we dont know about that shocked him? Its a strange statement to make in general when there was no foul play suspected

But some people are shocked by the appearance of decomposing bodies. And we now now signs of decomp were there. Of course, there could be other things too.

I have conflicting thoughts on going inside a house where you see someone on the floor, likely deceased. What if they were attacked by someone, and that someone is still inside? I am remembering this thought from what the police told me decades ago when I came home from work to find my front door ajar. I went in, looked around and realized my place had been burgled. When the police came, they advised me I should not have gone inside, for my safety. JMO

I'm pretty sure after close to two weeks it would have been obvious that if there was an assailant, they were long gone. Decomposition by that point is not subtle. There are very visible changes to the skin, there is purge, there is insect activity. Even viewed through a window, it would be unlikely they could have been mistaken for a living or recently deceased person.

I was surprised by his statement which can lead to wild speculations.

FWIW - where I live in Santa Fe I must use WiFi in order to use my phone. Verizon, my carrier, shows coverage but without WiFi I’d have to stand outside at one corner of my house to text or make a call. This is a notorious fact of Santa Fe life.

Can you comment on the weather conditions on the summit around Feb 17th?? I can find no historical data or imagery.

Sometimes exterior doors don't close properly. I have a door where you can lock it. From outside you think it is locked, but if you give it a shove, like the police probably did, it pops right open. Technically, the door is ajar, just a small bit in that the lock mechanism is not seated into the frame.

I think he does not want to get barraged with questions. The media can be very nasty and god forbid they quote you or video you saying something the least bit wrong. Just look at the wild headlines going around. It is all about the click bait.

I don't see any connection with "foul play". It won't have been a pretty sight, that's for sure.
