Apparently he was able to drink (presumably he would eat too if he kept drinking the week)
just bizarre what he could and couldn't have control of with advanced Alheimerz.

Did they specifically say that they had exterminators on a monthly basis?
The pest control company was there to do regular maintenance. usually in my experience in NYC we have that on a monthly basis

they really like their privacy.

ALSO, let me tell you: taking care of someone with advanced Alzheimer's is all-consuming. And EXHAUSTING.

You don’t have to entertain the workers, leave the money or e-transfer,

It’s not a social call, they are ‘staff’.

Privacy is not an issue nor would it detract from seeing to her hubby.

RIP

So if GH's cause of death was his heart ailments and Alzheimer's, rather than dehydration, that means he would probably have died before long regardless, even if BA had been healthy and getting him the finest medical care.

Oh, the poor pup must have been barking and whining... 😢 and poor GH didn't understand or wasn't able to get to her.

Yes, let's hope that BA, while apparently not feeling well enough to connect with others via phone or email, was still alive and able to at least minimally care for GH and the dogs for a few more days beyond the 11th, meaning a shorter time between her death and theirs...

One thing I can relate from my own observations of a parent with Alzheimer's, is that their sense of the passage of time can get very skewed. So GH might not have even registered that days were passing.

TBH, I can't take credit for it though. 😂 Someone else on this thread (either #1 or thread #2) suggested it first, IIRC. I think it was @MsEmmaPeel? It was really just my 3rd choice. I thought BA died first, but I wasn't sure of what. 1. Thyroid issue, she was reaching for her meds, got dizzy and hit her head, causing her death. 2. BA died of a cardiac event (even though she was reportedly in excellent, stranger things have happened). 3. Hantavirus was my third choice, however, when I saw the press conference would have the NM Department of Health there, then I started to wonder if it could indeed be hantavirus.
well you both got it right. I can at least tell you a funny story, when we would go visit my dad, he would beg my mom to take him with her , don't leave me here please" it was very hard on her. One time we just went to get coffee, and when we came back , he said " oh what a nice surprise you two drama queen's came to visit...Lol"
So I bet Gene passed not really understanding anything was even amiss.

Instead, she dies?
She died of hantavirus, not from caring for Gene.

part of me wonders if Gene put the dog in the crate
It was explained that the dog was on crate rest because she was recovering from surgery.

I hope so 🤞
If he had advanced Alzheimer's, it sounds possible.

What if Gene didn’t want to be placed in a care facility? If that was his wish I’d respect that. It’s not a lot different than DNR instructions.

There is no mention of a facility in my post. I’m referring to being at home with the caregiver, not in a facility. A mother with 4 children who works full time while trying to be a caregiver for her parent living in the home is going to take a toll on her entire family.

Private people with wealth statistically remain in their home. They bring in extensive hospital equipment and staff.

The official stated the date the dog had been operated on, or had some procedure, so I would guess that she took care of it, but you could be right.

BA had just picked up the dog from the vet after having a procedure. I think BA must have put the dog in the kennel when she arrived home, where the dog remained until being found by LE.

Don't imagine GH would have put the dog in the kennel, given the fact that he must not even have realized that BA had passed.

The presser was very well done and informative. I'd always thought Betsy died first and Gene died later, never having known Betsy had already died, mostly because I was hoping neither had to watch the other go first. I still hope that's true. I also hope their wills are ironclad and contain provisions for Betsy's mother's continued care, as well as care for their surviving dogs. Considering how little contact he had with his children, and how they thought he was still well enough to be bicycling and doing yoga, I'm really hoping for no ugly estate fights, especially since Betsy died first. Off to watch The Royal Tenenbaums and remember a truly versatile and talented actor and an extraordinary man.

@CStewartNews

So Betsy Arakawa dies on 2/11…Gene Hackman dies on 2/18…and they wouldn’t be found until 2/26 when a worker showed up at their home.

sometimes they cant stay at home, if they are a risk to themselves or others, My dad would take off, and get lost. One time the RCMP found him about 3 hours a way and he had run out of gas, he got lost on a new ring road took the wrong exit and just kept driving. its not safe for them sometimes to be at home. when you have a caregiver at home, who does a lot for you, you may not see how bad it is. Remove that caregiver , or their routine, and you see it loud and clear.

IMO … For Betsy, they said the last proof of life was on 2/11. That doesn’t mean she died on the 11th. The media is jumping on the 11th. She could have died on the 18th.
All phone activity ceased on the 11th. It's a pretty good indicator that life ended on the 11th.

I don't know if this applies to deer mice, but with the very common house mouse I use fresh and dried mint. Works well. Mint for repellent.

I loved him in the Royal Tenenbaums! that's my favorite Gene Hackman movie.
