The causes of deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were revealed by authorities on Friday, more than one week after the couple was mysteriously found dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home.

Hackman died of cardiovascular and Alzheimer's disease likely around Feb. 18, about one week after his wife died from a rare syndrome, hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, on about Feb. 11, officials said.

Dogs do not get sick from hantavirus, she noted.

As discussed previously, what do we think about it possibly being Hantavirus as a cause of death for Betsy, Gene, or both?

Though rare, it is deadly. About 1/3 of people who contract it will perish from the disease. https://www.npr.org/2012/08/29/160265988/two-die-after-hantavirus-outbreak-in-yosemite If Gene and Betsy have such a large house(s), 9,000 square feet, with three dogs running in and out all day, I could see deer mice getting in.

I still lean towards BA having a medical event first, due to her thyroid meds, or possibly cardiac event. I guess we will see this afternoon. Do you think they will release a cause of death, or just an update?

Edit: From the article linked above
you guessed it ! I would have not guessed that in a million years, It does make sense tho,. pest control I think bugs, but it could have been for mice. They did say infestation But I didn't catch where ? inside or out?
Sad that she died a week before him and he was alone, but at least if they are in their usual surroundings, they can do better cause they have a familiar structure.

He died exactly the same way my dad did, serious heart disease and advanced stage 4 vascular dementia. Eventually as dementia progresses, damage reaches the brainstem. which is responsible for controlling vital functions like breathing and swallowing. The Dr told me it was like those cartoons, where the trees crackled and eventually turned black and died.
So sad, I just hope he didnt hurt, and I hope he didn't remember much.

They said it wasn't found in the main house though, but in other buildings on the property.
here is a building on their property but not the main property
some people described the home as a ranch so wondering if there were horses at some point

How did Gene not even smell the body?

my sentiments too. So heartbreaking. Though, well done press conference.
I found it hard to watch it too. The Chief Medical Examiner seemed to be near tears, especially when answering several of the questions on the topic of ‘suffering’.

How long was the dog dead for? My god…

I wonder if the mice came in through the dog door?
They wouldn't need anything so large. If a mouse can fit its head through a space, it can fit its whole body. And it can chew through pretty much anything, given the time.

Any kind of gap. Between building materials. Through spaces for utilities and pipes. Through ventilation panels.

$80M in the bank yet they don’t have an ongoing extermination service or cleaners??

Ridiculous!

RIP
they really like their privacy.

ALSO, let me tell you: taking care of someone with advanced Alzheimer's is all-consuming. And EXHAUSTING.

Ah man. A sad ending. I am going to watch The Royal Tannenbaums tonight and try to forget his ending and just remember his great acting.
Fabulous in that! 😍

Heartbreaking :( That makes me feel sad that things ended this way for them. Especially Gene all by himself and the poor dog too.
Yes and perhaps Gene wasnt aware of the dog needing to be let out either. So tragic all the way around.
