Christian B.: Braunschweig public prosecutor's office wants a change of court

Brunswick. The suspect in the „Maddie“ case has been acquitted of multiple sexual offenses. What do prosecutors want to achieve with the appeal?
Indeed.
I seem to recall that before the trial started, the Braunschweig Court wanted the trial to be held elsewhere and the Prosecutors fought tooth and nail for it to be held in their jurisdiction.
Why the change of heart now ?

Who knows, but the appeal is only about points of law.

The public prosecutor's office has appealed against it, so the Federal Supreme Court is reviewing the verdict for errors of law.

Operation Grange is part time.

DCI Cranwell told the court Operation Grange now operates part-time.

He said he and a deputy work one day a week, and a detective works two days a week.

We've long known it was a part-time operation, we just didn't realise how part-time

Papers have reported that OG may be taking the leading role which actually I think is a stupid move.

Yes. I can’t imagine they’d even consider passing the case before appeal proceedings have been concluded. It appears that if the appeal fails, the evidence the judge tossed would be unusable in future cases.

If the appeal court doesn’t find bias or a legal error then imo the German’s & UK will start figuring out whether there’s a route to prosecute in the UK.

Bit by bit imo CB is becoming less of a prime suspect.

"I’m really, really proud that I have been the trigger for all of this because it means because of me the city might now end up becoming much safer. People got energised and took to the streets trying to make the town a better and a safer place and here I was also at the heart of all of this.”

Delusional as ever .

“ Braunschweig. A ruling that required Christian B. to remain in Germany has been overturned. The regional court must now decide on the matter again. “

“ Following an appeal by his defense team, the Higher Regional Court of Celle has now overturned parts of these conditions. The order requiring the suspect to find a permanent residence in Germany contradicts current law, the judges ruled. Even a person subject to conditions is "in principle free." The possibility of restricting his residence to Germany cannot be derived from the law – even at the risk that Brückner's "supervision" abroad would be virtually impossible to enforce. “

“Christian B.'s lawyer told Bild am Sonntag that he expected Mr. B.'s departure to be possible soon. A court spokeswoman said the court would provide further details on Monday. “

Strange that a German asking German taxpayers to contribute to his “fresh start” would write a full page of English, maybe he’s appealing to his “supporters”. I expect if this falls through that he names his price for a Netflix/ Amazon / BBC etc interview.

I find the jurisdiction issues of the various courts somewhat confusing.
Is any decision'final', or can it be refered onto somewhere else ?

Strange that the German press didn't get the story until it seems some 20 hrs after the mirror.

Is Christian B. allowed to leave Germany? The Hildesheim Regional Court must decide again.

The suspect in the Madeleine McCann case must wear an ankle monitor for five years and find a residence in Germany – that was the court order for Christian B. His lawyer has now achieved a partial success with an appeal against this ruling.

November 9, 2025, 6:23 PM

Christian B., 48, is one of the country's most notorious criminals. The repeat sex offender is a suspect in the Madeleine McCann case . However, there is no evidence to justify an indictment. He has therefore been free since September 17th and is living as a homeless person in Kiel.

The Higher Regional Court in Celle, Lower Saxony, has now ruled on an appeal by his lawyer. Specifically, the appeal concerned the conditions imposed on Christian B. after his release from prison. These conditions include wearing an ankle monitor for five years and the obligation to find a permanent residence in Germany. The responsible Regional Court in Hildesheim must now reconsider this, a court spokeswoman said after the Higher Regional Court's decision: "The Regional Court must define this specific instruction more precisely." The requirement to wear the ankle monitor, however, was upheld by the court.

Christian B.'s lawyer told Bild am Sonntag that he expected Mr. B.'s departure to be possible soon. A court spokeswoman said the court would provide further details on Monday.
