Hold up there, hoss. I think it’s fine to have a personal preference — but the latter isn’t a thing here in the U.S. of America, nor is it even up for consideration as a thing. Imo

Preferences =/= dictating society according to religious mandates. (LOL)

Do you think Sharia law is the only logical step to take after raising the buying age to 21 in Florida, or ?

You're taking my post out of context. It was in response to another post, that is all.

I did not get much out of that.

Not mentioned is that Australia has huge issues with the native population. There are issues with immigrant internment camps. The native population was slaughtered by the thousands and has the highest incarceration rate.

Here are some differences listed from the link above.

——————

• The currency of America is American dollars. The currency of Australia is Australian dollars.

• In America, Christmas falls in winter while Easter falls in spring. In Australia, Christmas falls in summer while Easter falls during autumn.

• America celebrates thanksgiving. Australia does not celebrate thanksgiving.

• The culture of the two countries while being multicultural, differ drastically.

I think that those things (racism and xenophobia) come under the similarities, not differences.

Renewable energy is the future.

And? Lay it out for us.
Sorry, I'm a sceptic...
Congress? Tax breaks, EPA, Solar? Nuclear?

While I love the message, the fight in my district is huge. Pipeline is a no go...

Or so I hope.

What is the difference between America and Australia?• While being two completely different countries featuring different demographics, geography and culture, America and Australia are different from one another due to the following reasons.
• America’s latitude and longitude is 38° 00′ N and 97° 00′ W. Australia is located between latitudes 9° and 44°S, and longitudes 112° and 154°E.
• America is a federal republic where the head of state is the President. Australia operates as a constitutional monarchy where the head of state is the Governor-General who represents the Queen.

• America and Australia are located at different hemispheres. And therefore, time differences between the two countries are drastic. America operates to UTC -5 to -10 and in summer its UTC -4 to -10. In Australia, its UTC +8 to +10.5 while in summer it is UTC +8 to +11.5 placing Australia almost half a day ahead of America.
• The currency of America is American dollars. The currency of Australia is Australian dollars.

• In America, Christmas falls in winter while Easter falls in spring. In Australia, Christmas falls in summer while Easter falls during autumn.

• The culture of the two countries while being multicultural, differ drastically.
Really? Those superficial things are the differences?

Lol. One is below the equator, one above. Different time zones.

If you have lived in both countries, yes, i agree with the article.

And you didn't know those things before you moved to Australia? That is such a basic list of differences, that they are elementary school level.

The way things are going i'm thinking a big economic collapse many times worse than before from what i have read, but that's O/T.

Me too... Keeping a look out...

Those things were not listed because they are similar then

And in the U.S.A. a hundred million Native Americans were genocided. America has a much worse problem with their Native peoples than Australia.

I'm a little unclear on what this has to do with the topic of this thread, which is gun control.

Internment camps in Australia.

http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/snapshots/internment-camps/index.aspx

Why do these things matter? Because some people say we cannot have gun laws because Australia is so different.

I beg to differ and can list even more things such as what is happening to refugees there.

Australia and America are alike in so many ways. Of course not with income, benefits and health care

But on the good news side, an aboriginal girl that I went to school with, who dropped out to help her mother raise the ten kids who came after her, has one daughter, who is an obstetrician, another who is a pediatrician and a son, who is a surgeon.

Women’s March under fire over links to Nation of Islam’s Louis Farrakhan, anti-Semitism

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/mar/7/womens-march-leaders-tamika-mallory-linda-sarsour-/

Progressives who have never quite cut the cord with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan despite his anti-Semitic rants are suddenly paying the price, starting with the Women’s March leaders.

Calls for Women’s March president Tamika D. Mallory to resign erupted after she attended a Feb. 25 speech in Chicago at which Mr. Farrakhan railed against “the Satanic Jew,” saying “powerful Jews are my enemy” while singling her out for recognition.

“The Women’s March statement is too little, too late. Three of its leaders have a history of associating with and supporting Farrakhan,” said Mr. Jacobson. “These connections have been public, yet the Women’s March remained silent.”

The flap has left the group reeling as it attempts to keep the focus on its next big event, the March 14 National School Walkout, a protest for tougher gun-control laws sparked by last month’s Parkland shooting.
