If you don't mind me asking how old are they? I gather maybe youngish teens or young adults? The ones with babies, do they qualify for assistance because of a baby?
I'm not really sure of that because i have not had to worry about it so don't know, but how on earth will they ever be able to get out of such an awful situation without any help to get on their feet? What about the local churches? Can they help?
It really is hard to imagine what goes on sometimes, and in this so called modern era, with kids living like that, or any person for that matter. It's damn tough for sure. But as you say it takes a community to rally around and help.

It's a vicious cycle and for the ones I know, I'm not so sure it's going to happen. It goes on all over the world though. Not just my corner.

There are all kinds of places that have housing and help for homeless youth. If your community does not have it, that could be something that one could look at as a good thing to get going. I imagine a call to some that look desireable would get advice on how to get started.

I think that depends on what part of Thailand you go to. The Indigenous people in Australia get fairly well looked after by the Govt. They get funding from the Govt. so their children get good educations and they get fairly good housing too, especially if you are a one parent family.
They get what is called Abstudy, Parenting Payment, NewStart Allowance, Disability Support Pension, Carer Allowance, & Age Pension.

Seriously? I posted the incarceration rates compared to whites. Then there is the Lost Generation of children that were forcibly removed from their homes. There is so much info on the inequities and racism towards the First Nation people.

Yes you are right, there is a world problem with it depending where you live. And many displaced people, (refugees), war orphans etc. as well. It's such a human tragedy we can't even get the very basics right on how to treat one another in this world. It should be enacted into ever country's constitution that we get the very basic right to food, shelter & health care IMO.

Perhaps a trip to Thailand where Jennifer worked for several years may allow one to see horrendous poverty? People go to Thailand for the child sex trade. Or a trip to Australia to see how First Nations peoples are treated?

In the city where I lived in the US, we had programs for homeless youth. They are not all from poverty, I will skip the long story, but we had a girl come to our house that was the daughter of a nurse and a doctor. Divorced. He ( the doc) with a new younger wife.

I imagine there are lots of models online that could be looked at as something that may work in your community.

I appreciate the thought human. Maybe one day.

We recently opened a shelter for women who have been saved from sex trafficking. I realized it was an enourmous problem, however, I did not realize, how close to my little spot on the map that it was.

Wasn’t the 2nd amendment written AFTER the war of Independence? When America was born? When they were their own nation? Wasn’t it written to ensure numbers and arms to defend against future attacks?

The War of Independence was April 19, 1775 – September 3, 1783
The Second Amendment was adopted about 10 years later on December 15, 1791

The Second Amendment was a reaction to the British failed attempts to disarm the American Militia at the start of the War of Independence. It was written as a result of events in the War of Independence.

Exactly. So the American government at the time needed the citizens to be armed to back up the military. Now the US has a strong armed forces, so the 2nd amendment is not needed in the context it was originally written. It's now just a way for people to say "I have the right to own a gun" and if you are the NRA they can say "we don't care about the greater good, we care about personal 'liberty'*"

*The NRA only really care about money btw

Perhaps because they accept that it is only for the Govt. to control the people in countries they wish to control with those terrible weapons? I even doubt any normal civilian would want to have those things. They are weapons of warfare only, and the might makes right way to solve world problems as far as i can see.

An AR15 is based on a weapon of warfare.

Only to annoy the Brits, honestly.

Yup. The French and the Brits love(d) to annoy each other and take sides. It's far more jovial now, but Nova Scotia saw the French and Brits fighting each other.

Well yes, actually it was written specifically for the Militia members. Because a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, no one should ever attempt to disarm any members of the Militia.

Isn't "well regulated" open to interpretation?

Exactly! And interpretations have been made in the past, and therefore new interpretations can be made now.

You should come to one of my family get togethers; half French, half English, sometimes as many as 20 on each "side". We love each other to bits but there is always a fair amount of banter, shrugging, debates about cheese, and mucho language confusion (which appears to get less confusing the more wine is drunk). Totally off topic but despite Brexit I will always remain fiercely European!

I don't expect anyone will ever try to take my guns, so I'm really not concerned. However, you realize no matter what law might get passed it won't override my Constitutional right to bear arms. It would be illegal for the government to take my guns. So unless they remove the 2nd Amendment entirely, I can lawfully keep my guns no matter what new laws they may pass.

Exactly. SCOTUS determined people have a right to own certain firearms to protect themselves. Thank you, bobcat, for your honest answer.
