How many people were at Skyline the morning of June 4?

Hi BeanE, Here is an exerpt from Terri's statement I found Googling. It was from an analysis done by person who I can't link to here and the quote was broken up and analyzed point by point:

“I said I was going to look at other exhibits - how do you mess that up? His coat and backpack were still at school. I left the school at 9 and he was seen with a man ‘chaperone’ and 2 girls after I left. There were no men on the chaperone list. That and it was highly chaotic - had to been 300 people running around - no coordination ...”

At least she was there even if she might have exagerated, right?

PS: The other thought I have is one account said she hollered at the teacher in the gym {or cafeteria} that his appt was on Monday. If she had to holler there might have been allot of people in the room talking. Just sayin'. That came out early in the case and don't know where it came from.

ETA: The quote came from Terri's emails sent to either KATU or one of their sources.

It doesn't sound like an exaggeration, based upon what we do know.

Not sure if this might have influenced attendance at the Skyline science fair, but I read somewhere early in the case that this was the first time that the school had hosted this IB event. With that in mind, maybe there was a significant amount of interest in the science exhibits and more parents/community members made an effort to attend because it was a "first" for Skyline. jmo

Parents of the 300 children will be asked to come to the school on Sunday on a staggered basis to interview with detectives to glean more information about Kyron's interests and school activities. They will be notified via a Portland Public Schools messaging system, he said.

Parent Gina Zimmerman was at the school for the science fair, which she described as major academic and social event for the school where the day's events included an afternoon talent show. *snip*

Sounds as if there were many parents, visitors, friends, grandparents and other family there that day for a VERY important academic and social event. moo mhoo

How could we ever estimate how many were there at any given time that morning since the invitation to attend was from 8:00 to 10:00 wasn't it? With people coming and going all along. And it was open to the public at the same time. I don't know, but I'm terrible at estimating numbers anyway. LOL

Good point BillyLee, Lots of people coming and going would make the number fluxiate quite a bit. Bring your child to school, go look at his project and leave. It wouldn't be like a concert where everyone came at once and stayed for the duration of the time allowed for the event IMO.

Could it be that the visitors were there from 8a to 8:45am and at 9am, the students got together in groups for touring. So the majority of people would be there between 8am and 8:45a? moo

Would visitors come back for the talent show or was there a place for visitors to gather. I don't know Skyline nor do I really understand that day. hoo

IIRC, the sign out front for the public said 8:00 to 10:00, for the science fair. (I think?)

Another thing that would have influenced attendance, perhaps, is the weather. I think it was raining that morning. By Portlander standards, would that have limited attendance in any way? (In Southern California, rain has the same effect as a blizzard in Colorado...)

Again, if anyone attended I would love to read an explanation of why TH described the Science Fair as "chaotic" and "unorganized."

Can I ask a simple question...cuz I can't understand the need for this information?

Just by BeanE's preliminary calculations and of course Terri's attendance quota...it's a lot of people and it's obvious it could be chaotic.

What I'd really like to find out is how can we invite a few of Skyline Elementary School's parents to join WS's to help us out with some answers to questions like this and of course other stuff, too! Like if they saw Kyron & Terri...

We're all little Duckies you know up here in Oregon. LOL Seriously I don't even use an umbrella unless it is a downpour or rain with wind. I don't think the light rain of that day would have hindered anyone going IMO

I am confused about the chaotic comment too. Students projects were set up in their home rooms, right? And yet I've read people were in either the gym or cafeteria. There were no awards given that I have read so what was going on there? Maybe it was the noise from allot of people talking at the same time that gave a chaotic feeling.

My best guess would be 350 as per how many questionnaires were returned by skyline students, parents & staff.

source of this guess would be here :)

"Officials said the investigation now is focused on checking 2,800 tips that have come in and 350 questionnaires returned by Skyline staff, parents and students about anything they might have seen June 4."

Thanks for the link. I would think the number may be even higher, as one questionnaire may represent several people from the same family. Were these distributed to everyone who was at the school that day? Including all delivery or mail persons, contractors, etc. ?

Yes, and then add in relatives, and of course the general public. I still am not sure why the general public was invited to a school event, when there was absolutely no supervision or accounting for the children that attend the school. Even in a sporting event, such as a soccer game, the coaches, etc., know exactly which children are on their teams and where they are. IDK, bugs me.

Well to everyone who would admit to being at the school that day, can't see some random perp willing raise their hand and fill it out kwim.. but yes delivery people were addressed and it was for certain times etc .Here is a link to the questionnaire itself.

Okay couldn't get the scrib to work but you can access it from here as well

Don't know about Skyline, but the Science Fairs I've chaperoned were loud, and a bit chaotic. Lots of people coming in and going out.In our school fairs, the gym was used for exhibits too, because there was never enough room in the classrooms to fit all of the children's projects. Just my experience...

IMO.

More importantly, to me at least, is parking. There are how many parking places on the south/southeast lot? From what I have gathered thus far, Skyline was not like Portland "proper" and serviced by a city bus or local transit.

People have been critical about where Terri parked, but in looking at the school map and calculating the extra people coming that day, I really don't see how every parent/relative could have NOT parked on the access road or somewhere else.

Lots of people may have seen and spoken to Terri and/or Kyron...they just may not have spoken to the media about it.

In the photo of Kyron taken in front of his project, the empty room can be seen. Yes, there were two or three people in the far background, but the room should have been busy with parents and children if 200-300 people attend the science fair during its scheduled time frame. The room wasn't busy which leads me to believe that Terri was at the school before most of the parents/potential witnesses.

I don't know. Hello I am new and have been lurking for a long time. I am a mother and attend numerous school functions. I am amazed that even though the sign at the front of the school says please check in at the office, if I should choose to, I could get into the school in other ways without a hitch. Of course TMH is acting suspiciously, but did anyone ever take into consideration that it may in fact, be a random abduction? Please don't jump on me, I am aware that she allegedly tried to have Kaine killed and such, but "what If"?
This is just my humble opinion....
Thank you
