He's been on the Weather Channel in Morehead City.

He went away from the tree now

I believe that is Paul Goodloe.

And the last stripe on the bottom of the flag is almost off. That wind is strong.

I keep seeing a torn flag on CNN (I think it's Cape Fear, NC). Wish someone had removed the flag :(

Or used another flag. It's hard to see the stars & stripes get ripped up.

Dear Al Hoffman,

Thank you for sharing this story about humanity, someone who was indeed "enterprising" by stealing batteries to save someone's life.

You have such a natural way with words and the details are enthralling.

If you haven't already written a book, or two, I genuinely hope you do. I'd buy them.

Who doesn't want to read about human experiences in situations like this? You have a gift for shining a light on humanity during difficult times.

Namaste,
Zen

Thank You very much. If you want to see really good writing, and read about the real life drama that happened after H. Katrina, read the year's worth of the Times-Picayune from mid-August 2005 to the end of 2006. The Times-Picayune ran a below the fold front page feature for 365 days (I believe) of a different story about someone who died in the storm; their life and how they passed.

There was the story of two young men who's mom went missing after the storm. Months later THEY found her skeletonized remains as they were cleaning debris from around the family home in the lower 9th ward, in an attempt to rehab the family home destroyed by flooding.

Though stuck here in Memphis, I had a subscription to the home town newspaper. After a while I could not read them anymore, and burned a wine crate full of unopened newspapers in the fireplace.

The writing here is good therapy and a good outlet for me. It lets me recall what I want, even memories about those and things lost. Something that happened to all of us affected by H. Katrina, and other storms.

God watch over all in harm's way on the South Atlantic coast!

Meteorologist Ryan Maue of WeatherModels tweeted some projections on Thursday morning. Maue's models suggest that around 17 trillion gallons of rain will fall across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia with some spots receiving as much as 30 inches of rain before Florence is finished.

would you link i wanna see if it goes through on this end where I can see

Its called the severe weather mix channel. It has four channels on one screen. You can toggle between them. Right now TWC. Accuweather. CNN. Local News 9. Perodically CNN. HLN. And Fox gets replaced with each other if any of them starts talking about Trump and PR. Seriously this not about Him! Rant over.

Brings back awful memories. The worst is hearing it at night with loud bangs and not knowing what just went down. Was it a tree or part of someone's home? I hate that feeling.

I've been right there myself, a number of times, starting at age 8. I know EXACTLY what you mean.

For some, the best Hurricane preparation is a good arborist who looks at your property yearly or twice yearly, and removes problem trees, before they become a REAL problem (like in your living room).

Also, look at recent FEMA floodplain maps for your home(s), and then go buy Federal Flood Insurance, IF they will sell it to you. Your Homeowners Insurance WILL NOT pay for ANY floodwater damage, only wind and rain damage. And they will fight you over that, and argue that anything damaged by water was caused by flood water not rain, even when the metal roof from your house is wrapped around a tree. But the flooding high water mark on the outside of the building is a good place to start. If there is a building left to look at.

Also, the fact that FEMA or other rescue/recovery guys had to chop a hole in the roof to check for bodies or survivors is a good indication that your Homeowners Insurance won't pay out.

The search crews will spray paint an X on the front or roofs of the each building searched. In the arms of the X, they will mark date and time of their search, #bodies recovered/found, #persons rescued, and team doing the entry.

After H. Katrina, uninformed Christian ministers taught that these were "voodoo hex Marks" put up by practitioners of the Dark Arts in New Orleans to ward off evil spirits and to keep the storm away. And that is why God smote New Orleans with his wrath. That and the Gay Pride Parade and the openly Gay community in New Orleans. I was so informed when I took lunch with the staff of a megachurch in Memphis, more than a month after the storm, a church that had a very large, well staffed and equipped evacuee shelter. They even showed me a national church magazine that stated this, to back up their assertions.

Ok kids --- lets please not have any more discussions with Gazebos-- this can lead to a possible visit by medical folks!

It was fine for me to be with folks that chat with Gazebos - however in this context ,here, this can be very alarming!
