I was under the impression that, fortunately, most mental illnesses are treatable and manageable. This is, obviously, a very uneducated opinion though.
From the get go, I always thought that she would be eventually deemed competent, that's what usually happens. Everyone, and I mean everyone, deserves to be adequatelly treated, even if they commited horrible, terrible crimes. She has gone through treatment and will probably keep doing what she has been doing so, she is now capable of participating in her own defense.
She was very clearly struggling mentally, but she is also a terrible, awful person. One doesn't cancel the other.
