He spewed hate, preached love, and committed a crime that perpetuated that which he professed to despise.

How ironic.
We don't know for a fact that he committed a crime. LE are waiting for another interview with him. IMO

He is using his platform to express his feelings about hate directed at certain groups of people.
Much like others in positions of power use their platform to encourage hate against others. IMO

But JS uses his platform to encourage hate.

Yes, but the second he staged a fake hate crime, he became a criminal.

Just because a lot of people are hypocrites, doesn’t justify hypocrisy.

It’s by no means a leap.

I’d bet JS’ career on it.

Correct, but has it truly been confirmed that he is guilty.
Last I heard LE want to interview him again based on their speaking with the two brothers.

My threshold is clear and convincing evidence that someone committed a crime.

I passed that some time ago.

His story was absurd, and I was skeptical from the beginning. But I waited until there was enough evidence before I reached a conclusion as to what happened.

Everything makes sense for a hoax, and nothing lends credence to any alternate scenario that is even slightly plausible.

I am convinced of his guilt, and sold on these brother’s account.

He needs more than a crisis manager now. He needs Chernobyl Clean Up Crew.

He apparently lost his nationally high powered lawyer in a day due to his insistence in sending out that press release this weekend and instead had to get lawyers who were more locally well known.

And that is fine. My concern was early on many sources that were said to be from LE were later said to be false from the Superintendent.
So I'm willing to wait until we actually have someone in authority confirm they have evidence of a hoax.IMO

That statement came from top brass, and they said exactly what they were supposed to say.

If you suspect someone of staging a crime, and you want to keep the lines of communication open, you do not publicly communicate that the leaks are true.

You don’t want to make a “victim” a suspect, and cause him to lawyer up. The more he talks, the deeper the hole he digs.

Since that time, they have publicly changed their stance.

One person from LE has strongly hinted that they need to speak with Jussie. I did see that new evidence has come to light from the interview with the brothers.
Other than that and lots of media saying he is considered suspect....nothing really confirms to me that they have anything to point to his guilt.
If they do have evidence why not arrest him?

They absolutely want to speak to JS again, but I absolutely don’t expect him to talk. It can only hurt him at this point, and his lawyers will not allow it.

Reports today said that a grand jury is set to convene. I fully expect them to return an indictment.

At that point he would be arrested and formally charged.

Depending on what they have it is possible they will come back with an indictment.

I have only seen the MAGA comment. Which I don't totally agree with but can understand his anger over some of the things happening in our society today.

He clearly appears to have pulled it now, but I saw it on his Twitter page and I feel pretty sure someone has copy-pasted it on a thread here, where he basically said that he thinks anyone who supports Donald Trump is a Ku Klux Klan member.

While I'm perfectly willing to admit that Hollywood probably thinks this is the case; it's by no means so and I think it reaches the threshold of "hate speech".

The brothers were initially arrested, based on evidence that they were involved (surveillance footage and transportation records).

Whatever they told law enforcement, was backed up by evidence (phone records, purchase records, and items seized from their apartment).

So there is actual evidence in play here that paints a pretty clear picture.

We have absolutely no evidence that any political official directed this hoax, or were involved in the planning of it.

They were simply indirect beneficiaries who unwittingly did JS’ bidding.

Unless evidence comes to light that any political official had a direct hand in this, speculation as to their potential involvement isn’t rooted in any fact.

What they did was wrong, but not criminal.

Yes, but my point remains the brothers have been cleared by LE as suspects and Jussie hasn't even been named a POI yet there is abundant speculation JS was the mastermind.
<modsnipped>

Until I see evidence otherwise--including the source for the $7,500+ pay off to the brothers, I'll continue to hold the opinion others are involved beyond the three.

Please read Section 3 (4).
The section deals with acts of VIOLENCE. Words appearing on internet discussion boards are not acts of violence. Sticks and stones break bones; words never cause physical injury and certainly not death.

“(4) OFFENSES INVOLVING LYNCHING.—Whoever, whether or not acting under color of law, willfully, acting as part of any collection of people, assembled for the purpose and with the intention of committing an act of violence upon any person, causes death to any person, shall be imprisoned for any term of years or for life, fined under this title, or both.”.

<modsnipped- keep politics out of the discussion>
What platform? JS isn't running for political office and he has no platform that I can see. This case is about knowingly reporting a false hate crime and being held accountable.

Platform as a person known to the public. Or you could say he is using his tweets to connect with his followers as many people do. IMO

Hard to sum it up any better than that!
