maybe they have bad lawyers

A bad lawyer is one who tells his client that there are no charges but he has to give someone $10k. A good lawyer tells his client that there are no charges and he should pay nothing.

It was also very much planned and elaborated. It was also released to the media. Additionally adding a terrorist letter with white powder, purchase of supplies etc.

This isn't just some dumb criminal getting caught in the wrong place at the wrong time saying, oh yeah, I was attacked. This was a full on production!

This one got the attention it did now because that’s the attention it has received all along.

Back when people took this crime at face value, it led all the nightly news broadcasts and had prime time cable news coverage.

It wasn’t just national, it was global.

That coverage hasn’t waned, because interest hasn’t dissipated.

People are mad at being lied to.

Is there a link that says Jussie sent the letter? I have not seen that, yet seen people ask for it over and over with no avail

Sounds similar to an Alford Plead

There was no Alford plea. There were no charges. The charges were dropped. He did nothing wrong. There's no reason to make a deal when someone is not guilty of anything.

Why did Smollett pay someone $10,000?

  • #105
Yes but it did not cause any other crimes to happen. Saying so is just misleading.

Perhaps you should reread my post. I never said it caused other crimes to happen. Not one time did I ever say that? So I'm not misleading anyone or anything.

I said similar to it. You know where someone says they are innocent but evidence shows otherwise.

Just stating it is a thing and happens, which someone said it doesnt

Excellent post nwmouse. I could not ha e said it better. ‍♀️

I disagree, this case does set a precedent. The two cases you linked to did not involve celebrities/actors and did not make global headlines.

The person who faked this nauseating hate crime hoax is not an Average Joe. He's reasonably famous, is a known activist, and has friends in high places.

This was a staged hate crime in a city that has a high rate of violent crime and sometimes volatile race relations.

What if an innocent person was murdered because of JS's hoax?

What about all the real crimes that needed police attention, but resources were diverted because a celebrity staged a hate crime to get attention?

Why all the secrecy around the charges being dropped?

IMHO there are no similar hoax cases that received so much publicity, with far-reaching consequences.

ETA: in other cases where hate crimes have been hoaxed the person who created the hoax usually apologizes and admits to what they did. Smollett is as smug as ever, gloating that he got off and is still faking his alleged "attack". He needs to come clean instead of hiding behind his celebrity status.

We'll agree to disagree. Moving on...

IIRC, a few threads back there was a new article stating that during the 3 weeks that this lying 🤬🤬🤬 had Chicago detectives chasing their tails around the city looking for these "phantom" muggers with a noose, there were more than 12 murders in the city , including a child who was shot in the head. Resources were wasted on this BS, when they could have been investigating the loss of lives. And you don't think this is a crime?? Maybe you can explain that to the mother of the baby who got shot in the head! JS is a ******* who should answer for his actions!!

Perhaps you should reread my post. I never said it caused other crimes to happen. Not one time did I ever say that? So I'm not misleading anyone or anything.

I was replying to this reply that inferred that a detective could have stopped a child from being shot. Thats is not what they do.

Thats all. Sorry

Tina Glanadian, JS‘s attorney, on CNN.

TG: The only person that should be apologizing is the mayor and the city of Chicago.

Anderson Cooper: If you know a guy for 1.5 years, I mean... if this guy is punching him in the face and saying things to him, how could he not be recognizing him?

TG: He was wearing a ski mask and gloves.

GMAFB. But he recognized these guys were white?

no, it happens alot.
Also Alford pleads exist.
Another poster literally told a story of how they had to make a deal even though they didnt do anything wrong

An Alford plea is something that happens when someone is charged with crimes. Smollett is not charged with any crimes, therefore he cannot make an Alford plea.

Just stating it is a thing and happens, which someone said it doesnt

There is no evidence if no crime was committed.

sigh*
I think the point was lost in the twisting.
I just mentioned it was SIMILAR to how an alford plea works and that alford pleas exist.
let's move on

In my opinion Smollett would have been better off entering into a real plea deal where he admitted guilt.

This apparent interference in the criminal justice system which allows him to say he is innocent with impunity will haunt him and his career for a very long time.

I have a feeling he may self destruct in the future because of this. Whomever helped him in this travesty did him no favors. JMO

That is the best post you have made all day long with your constant trolling.....moo

I do not agree with you. I have appreciated their posts and didn't find them to be trolling at all.

It is a very twisted point when a man who is not charged with any crimes gives someone in the justice system $10,000. That is a rather serious twisted point!

I’m not so sure.

He will be able to say “the charges were dropped,” and people who don’t know any better, will buy it.

Some people think that no crime has been committed, as long as you haven’t been charged with anything.

The facts and evidence are clear here, but there are people out there who don’t care.

They will believe what they want to believe, and find any justification for doing so.

This was the best possible result for him.

That’s why the lack of a guilty plea is so frustrating.
