IIRC, early on, when news media interviewed the employee/owner of the Precision Car place near that crime scene, he said he saw the officer's car that morning. The reporter asked him if the car was marked or unmarked, and he answered it was marked. The link to this interview is up thread, I am sorry I don't have it handy.

Yes, it was a Patch posted interview, IIRC. There was also some information floating out there in MSM that: he was on his way to work; yet more info about his personal vehicle which had been remarked upon as familiar pickup truck, by one of his many friends and admirers. Could he have been driving to work in his patrol car?

Also in that interview from the guy from Precision Car, he mentioned that an officer would check that area everyday. Don't know if it was the same officer everyday. Certainly didn't seem out of the ordinary that this area was checked.

LE doing rounds would be normal, showing presence in industrial areas routinely. That being said, whatever the three people he saw were doing, if it was a big drug deal going down or something, then they may not have been the most adept of dealers, it seems possible?

There's something in congruent about the idea of anything being worth sticking around for to kill him, unless he caught one of them briefly maybe? That could leave some DNA at the scene?

I'll try to find the link, but I remember reading that the lieutenant had taken his patrol car home and was driving that to work that morning.

"Gliniewicz, a 30-year police veteran, was on his way in to work Tuesday morning, in the cruiser that he had taken home the day before, when he saw three suspicious people, Filenko told reporters earlier. This would not have been unusual as Gliniewicz was the type of officer who considered himself on-duty as soon as he rolled into town, he said."

Ray of Hope is correct. It has been widely reported that he had taken his patrol vehicle home the night before and was on his way to work.

However, I think he made his home in Antioch, so, it doesn't seem like Honing Road is necessarily on the way to his police station, assuming that is where he would normally go.

Quieter than usual Labor Day weekend in Fox Lake in wake of officer's shooting
By Lauren Zumbach, The News-Sun / Chicago Tribune
Sunday, September 6th '15, 5:17 pm

Gliniewicz, 52, had been on routine patrol about 8 a.m. Tuesday when he radioed that he was responding to suspicious activity, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. He reported that he was starting a foot pursuit of three subjects, but no one heard from him after that, authorities said.

Thank you, a great help, Ray_of_Hope. I was lost on which part had been confirmed. Is there some version of an official LE timeline yet of what route he may have taken from home to work?

RSBM. Also within that two week timline mentioned above was a 90 minute meeting Lt. CG had with the mayor the day before he was fataly shot.

I have to wonder if his shooting is somehow related to the internal investigation. That might explain why no additional information about the suspects has been released to the public.
Still catching up, we spent the afternoon at the lake today, but That makes me think back to the comment that at least one of the perps if not all three would be known to law enforcement and the investigative unit.

It sounded odd to me at the time for some reason and I didn’t want to come out and ask. But what if this could have been carried out by one of his colleagues, the more I learn, the more I fear it might be true.

I'm not sure, that in the absence of the information LE may have gathered thus far and with their outreach for more, there is yet reason to go there, anymore than the other speculation about it have been self inflicted was, as had been the case before news of "important evidence" and video footage became available.

Well, the truth is he DID retire. He had been with the department for 31 years. At the very very end, one of his officers was accused of some kind of misconduct during an arrest. Internal Affairs came in to see if the Captain was looking the oyher way, or was involved or was acting appropriately or not. But none of that changes the fact that he retired. Plenty of people retire with a black mark or two after 30+ years in a highly stressful, difficult job. JMO

It wasn't misconduct during an arrest. It was a physical confrontation between the officer being investigated and a citizen who was being let out of jail after having been arrested for a dui the day before.

The former chief of police announced his retirement AFTER it was announced he and the officer involved in the physical altercation were being investigated.

Now if the former chief had announced his plan to retire PRIOR to the public being informed he was under investigation it wouldn't raise eyebrows. His announcing and retiring abruptly after the announcement is what is raising eyebrows and questions. LINK uptnread. I have posted it twice.

You're following my thoughts too. Just thinking outside the box of all possibilities, since they are not forthcoming with even the most simple answers. The autopsy alone would have revealed a whole lot. I pray it wasn't someone known to him, but stranger things have happened. We all know in any business, including government, a lot goes on behind the scene.

I saw the one link you posted but I didn't read anything about the DUI. I miss be either missing the other link or the DUI details. Can you post it again or point me in the direction of what post number? I do see the Chgo Tribune post that someone else posted, but it is a pay post, so I can't read it.

Sorry to bug you, since you have already done it twice.

OK, so it wasn't misconduct during the arrest it was alleged misconduct the day after the arrest during the release. Ok.

I never said the chief had planned to retire before the incident. I am not at all surprised that he announced it after hearing abut the Internal Investigation. Lots of CEO's, OWNERS, CHIEFS, BOSSES choose retirement at the end of their careers as soon as some kind of controversy arises. Why gamble and lose a pension or a large retirement bonus by waiting around and seeing if you win or lose the argument? He served that force for 31 years. He deserves the chance to retire, imo. I don't know what happened between the other officer and the DUI suspect, but it will all be sorted out soon enough. JMO

My mistake. It was public intoxication.

The confrontation followed the arrest of a 36-year-old man suspected of public intoxication, Marrin said.
The officer and the suspect had a verbal and physical altercation at the police station, Marrin said. The suspect was released the next day.

Up until now I have only observed here a few times.I'm local about 8 miles away from the old cement yard location.Years ago I owned a home in Fox Lake on East Grand Ave.a couple of blocks west of Grant High School about a half mile from the scene.

Weird feeling having this occur close to home,a few observations, bits n' pieces

Chicago ( Chiraq ) is an American Mecca for Heroin,Fox Lake's an easy train ride north.

My son's lost a few friends to Heroin and seen some come close to the edge. He's told me that up here in the northern suburbs,Fox Lake's a major place to score the stuff.

I've been on vacation the past week but hanging around the area. This past Tuesday was out riding my Harley with my wife on board headed out west to ride rural roads.Around 9:15 a Fox Lake patrol car flew by us near the intersection of Grass Lake Road and State Park Road ( north end of town ) we had no idea anything like this had happened.

Near that intersection up there is also where the Snap Fitness Gym Lt.Joe worked out at is located and may explain why he would approach Fox Lake to begin his shift from the west (Honing Road) side of town.

I'd originally assumed he'd been east bound on Rollins road headed towards the Police Station on Route 59 starting his shift, saw something suspicious and pulled off Rollins along the bike path and quickly exited the patrol car or doubled back to enter from Honing Rd.

As the interview with the man from Precision Chrome stated,Police patrolled the old cement yard around once a day.My understanding is that there were also fresh graffiti tags at the site.Might have seemed worth a look that time of day at least to see if any high school kids were up to no good before class or anything else.

Out of his patrol car on foot pursuit,1 against 3 on a secluded section of a curved, narrow tree lined dirt road....

Fox Lake's an eclectic mix of people with a high ratio of bars per square mile.During the summer it reminds me of a cross between the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and Mardi Gras....There's quite a few transient sketchy (and or) down on their luck people roaming around...

Welcome and thank-you, that is what I have been wondering and you answered it, drugs, heroin in particular.

I just saw a report on Fox News (national) about the memorial service and funeral scheduled for today.

After I saw there were over 5000 people in attendance today, a question came over me while I was watching the report.

Is there any chance they are waiting to announce who the suspects are and other details until after the funeral and service is concluded ?? Deliberately stalling ??

If so, who could the suspects be that would generate such a negative response it may have ruined the services today ? Could it be that they'll make the arrests and announce the suspects after everyone is back home and no further large gatherings are planned ?

It's just a thought. There has to be some good reason why information has been so secretive and lacking for the last 3 or 4 days. No videos, no still shots, no composite sketches, no information of any kind to aid the public in apprehending these people. What's the reason for that ?

I notice people mentioning this on several cases - that something big will happen after the funeral. It would be interesting to track if this really happens, that LE holds back until after a victim is laid to rest.

Honestly, I think that's wishful thinking. But I could be wrong! I can see holding back if they are absolutely sure the perps won't flee or hurt someone else, I suppose.

In this case, it seems like the three men they are looking for do indeed pose a danger to the public. I would like to think that if LE were ready to make an arrest or give more info that would keep the public safe, they wouldn't stall.

Of course, I would love to see arrests immediately after the funeral. That would be satisfying!
