The majority of people in Gaza live under the poverty line. But you know who doesn’t? Hamas’ leadership worth BILLIONS OF DOLLARS. Hamas isn’t only stealing money from Gaza. It’s stealing the future of Gaza.

Hamas members tell NYT they hope for ‘permanent’ war, do not care about running Gaza

In interviews with the New York Times, Hamas higher-ups say their goal with the attacks on October 7 was to “change the entire equation” and renew attention on the Palestinian cause, in the words of Khalil al-Hayya, a member of the terror group’s politburo in Qatar.

[...]

Al-Hayya and other Hamas members quoted dismiss the idea that they want to govern Gaza, instead expressing support for endless conflict.

“I hope that the state of war with Israel will become permanent on all the borders, and that the Arab world will stand with us,” Hamas media consultant Taher El-Nounou is quoted telling the paper.

“Hamas’s goal is not to run Gaza and to bring it water and electricity and such,” says al-Hayya.

“This battle was not because we wanted fuel or laborers,” he adds. “It did not seek to improve the situation in Gaza. This battle is to completely overthrow the situation.”
Emphasis mine.
Incredible.
In their own words -- clearly, they're not hiding anything.

Maybe giving aid to Gaza needs to be considered more carefully ?
At the very least, only supplies and no more money ?
Nothing they can use to purchase weapons.
Maybe if all aid is stopped, the people will revolt ?
Omo.

This is exactly the dilemma. We, the free/democratic countries, cannot stop helping civilians. It is really what sets us apart from Hamas and other terrorist organizations (aside from not butchering, burning, raping, beheading).

Hamas took a page from the Nazi playbook,’ says Natalie Sanandaji, a survivor of the Nova Music Festival massacreShe recounts the choices that saved her life, the aftermath, and the wave of antisemitism she encountered as she went back to New York.

IDF Bedouin soldiers were seen going into Gaza in a viral video, threatening to eliminate Hamas for the atrocities that go against their religion."Prepare yourselves, hide in your tunnels, because we are coming for you."#HamasTerrorists | #Gaza

''A video uploaded on social media of an IDF Bedouin patrol battalion going to the Gaza Strip quickly went viral, garnering tens of thousands of views in just a few hours. The video was accompanied by a message in Arabic directed at Hamas terroristshiding in tunnels.

"Twenty-seven days ago, Hamas terrorists came here and committed heinous acts, killing babies and women – actions that contradict our religious teachings," the message said.

"We are here to eliminate you one by one. Prepare yourselves, hide in your tunnels, because we are coming for you. Do you want to become a martyr today? No problem."

The Gaza Strip had been sealed off with Israeli land and sea blockade. The only way in is to dig deep across the land border to Egypt. They have become an essential but dangerous lifeline for Palestinians. Through the tunnel network, they risk their lives time after time, scrambling through makeshift tunnels and smuggling goods from one country to another. It's a bizarre variation of those escape movies, where desperate men borough their way to freedom against incredible odds. The difference is, these tunnel rats always come back. Even if their home is the worst kind of prison.''

In their own words:

Hamas says purpose of massacres was a ‘permanent’ state of war on Israel’s borders

As Israel is pressured to agree to pause in fighting, top officials in terror group laud ‘great act’ of Oct. 7 and say they never intended to ‘improve the situation in Gaza’

The goal of Hamas’s October 7 massacres in southern Israel was to “change the entire equation,” bring permanent war to Israel’s borders and renew attention to the Palestinian cause, a senior member of the terror group’s politburo in Qatar said.

“What could change the equation was a great act, and without a doubt, it was known that the reaction to this great act would be big,” Khalil al-Hayya told The New York Times in an interview published Wednesday. “We had to tell people that the Palestinian cause would not die.”

Since October 7, The Barzilai hospital in southern Israel has been directly hit THREE times by Hamas rocket fire. In the past month we’ve seen: Hamas use Gazan hospitals as terror bases An Islamic. Jihad rockets hit a Gazan hospital. Hamas fire indiscriminately at an Israeli hospital Where is the outrage?

Maybe you should ask your daughter where she gets her news at and try to see what you think of the reporting from those outlets. And that could give you an opportunity to share compelling articles you have found with her. This is just an idea.

I think a lot of people are getting information from TikTok and I don’t think it’s helpful. I’m not saying your daughter is one of those people, but it does seem to be a problem.

I strongly believe Israel has to get rid of Hamas. Israel cannot proceed with any peaceful solution when terrorists that want to wipe Israel off the map are governing on the other side. And don’t forget that these terrorists still have Israel’s hostages. Netanyahu has said that his terms for a cease-fire are the release of the hostages. I think the bombing could end today if the hostages were released, IMO. So this in my opinion is a necessary war and in war there are casualties, horrible as that is. I believe Israel is doing everything it can to minimize civilian casualties, even as Hamas tries to maximize civilian casualties. You can also remind your daughter that the casualty count in Gaza is coming from Hamas and is itself an unreliable number. You could show your daughter articles cited this thread about how Israel is guiding thousands of civilians waving white flags to safety, even as Hamas tries to block these people from leaving.

Israel deserves to be criticized for what it has gotten wrong throughout the history of this overall conflict (no government is above criticism), but in my opinion, there is no hope for peace as long as Hamas is in power and October 7 proves that. Remember that there was a cease-fire in place October 6, yet October 7 still happened.

All IMO.
You are absolutely correct. I think X may be where her info comes from but then she challenges me with getting news from FOX even though I get most of the news here as well. I am a bit of a history nut. I remember back in grade school we had National Geographic Magazines in our class room. One of the stories was about th Holocaust and the pictures showed Jewish prisoners bodies stacked dead in a pile. To this day that picture has been burned into my mind. I have read and watched so much about World War II because it is so hard to grasp the hatred towards the Jewish people. I have read about Ancient times in the Middle East and their struggles then. Even in Mid Evil times and beyond in Europe they struggled. I don’t get it. Stay strong Israel.

Where is the outrage?
It has been silenced, but it is present. ( IMO )
IMO, only " approved by the UN" outrage is allowed to permeate MSM. Watch and Learn...

I'm really trying to understand who controls the Gaza strip. I'm googling and learning, or at least trying. So does the Palestinians have other governing people or did Hamas take over everything? Do the people realize that Hamas is not helping them at all? Not everyone is the same, but if I were going to die in war, I would try to go down fighting. So this makes me sound like I have no compassion,
.
Fatah and Hamas had an increasingly violent falling out that resulted in the Palestinians have two governing authorities for each of their two territories- Fatah, West Bank and HAMAS, Gaza.

As for why people in Gaza accept HAMAS, I imagine that it is some what similar to people in Northern Ireland in regards to acceptance of the IRA and Protestant militants- the answer can change depending on who is asking the question, how the person feels that day, and.... how the question is phrased.

In the end, there maybe some broad themes:

- HAMAS, is willing to fight. For people who have been dispossessed for generations, this means a lot.

- HAMAS, like the Northern Ireland groups, probably wears many hats: Part ISIS style terror group which slaughters civilians. Part resistance group (despite Israel's huge weapons and technology advantages, HAMAS successfully over an several IDF compounds on October 07), part Mafia crime family, part community service group etc. Thus, locals can accept one manifestation, but reject others.

- Like the Northern Ireland groups, open opposition to HAMAS can be hazardous to one's health. Such groups are experts at identifying and eliminating opponents (often in well, messy, example setting ways). Standing against them can be easier said then done.

- Some Gazans who do not support Hamas, also do not want to be seen as begging for hand outs or favors from the Israelis.

So, in the end, I imagine that it is..... complex and..... constantly changing.

I’m with you. I have a 31 year old daughter and I don’t know what to say to her. She thinks I am uneducated on the Palestine situation. On my side I have so much support for the Jewish people and all they have endured for thousands of years. Why do people hate them so much they want them erased from the earth. I just don’t get it. My daughter brings up that the young people in Gaza did not have a say in the elections that put Hamas in control of Gaza. True but they have been living and learning the Hamas ways. Are they victims? Hamas started this blood shed and now their people they govern are dying x100 or more. It’s all just a horrible situation. I’m sure others are having difficult conversations within their own families and I hate it.
I have a granddaughter in college, we discussed in depth two weeks ago. I think what helped her to understand is visiting the National Holocaust Museum in DC. It was the last HS school trip, the week before schools closed for COVID. She and others were deeply impacted.

It's a struggle for her, she has close friends on both sides. It's a big issue on some campuses, thankful all protest have been peaceful, at her school.
