FBI now says that New Orleans terrorist Shamsud-Din Jabbar acted alone and there is no indication others were working with him. Investigators think he picked up the F-150 truck on 12/30/24 in Houston then drove to New Orleans on 12/31/24.He posted five videos to online platforms proclaiming support for ISIS beginning at 1:29am to 3:02am on NYD.Three phones and two laptops linked to Jabbar have been recovered and investigators are searching them for more evidence.

It makes sense that initially when they said others were involved.. 3 men and 1 woman because the cameras caught those people picking up the cooler/s and looking at them because it was sitting there abandoned. They were being overly careful to warn people yesterday in case those people were involved, but after talking to them, they were just out there enjoying the night and saw the cooler and looked in it or whatever.. picked it up.

Coolers were planted a couple hours before.. they just said after midnight and if he recalls correctly closer to 1am..
Thank goodness they did not detonate! There was some luck in action, although not enough :(

Was not wearing suicide vest.

Does anyone else find it statistically improbable that Jabbar and the Vegas car bomber worked at the same air base and weren’t linked? I can’t imagine this is common…disturbing if statistically it is so common random coincidence occurs.
Fort Bragg (now Fort Liberty) has 52,000 soldiers.

Imo, it's too early to debunk if others were involved- but then I am not a trained FBI agent. ;)

This presser is sounding defensive, imo.
*Agree.

The authorities are now taking questions from reporters.

The first question is about how they said yesterday that multiple people might be involved and urged people to stay vigilant, but today, in the press conference now, they are stating they believe the suspect acted alone.

Christopher Raia says the FBI wants to be transparent with the public, and that means “unfortunately there are information we have to go back on”.

He explains that after about 24 hours of investigation, they are now confident there are no accomplices

Here's the footage of the other man being taken into custody. He was wearing sweat pants, not shorts.

Was there any update in the presser about this man?

From what we've read, they were stationed at different times

'At this point there is no definitive link between the attack in New Orleans and the one in Las Vegas' Christopher Raia, deputy assistant director of the FBI's counter-terrorism division provides an update on their investigations

The FBI says the New Orleans suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, posted five videos to an online platform "proclaiming his support for ISIS".In one video Jabbar said he initially planned to only hurt his family and friends.

The City is built on being a ‘Party’ destination. Sadly 24 hour available alcohol is a real tourist attraction.

The all night and day alcohol makes it a popular place for Spring Break, Jazz Fest, Essence Fest, sports games, gambling, over the top bachelor parties, weddings and more.

I get what you're saying and why it's so frustrating to learn the barricades were so inadequate.

I like that you mentioned how they cordon off Times Square with bulldozers, sanitation trucks, etc. I was totally unaware of that type of barrier being used, but I really like it. It's effective and yet it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to implement.

I'm guessing we'll see more communities taking those steps going forward.

I think a lot of the reason people overlook things like that is they just can't imagine something so horrible happening in their own little realm. But every time something like this happens, we're reminded that we have to be vigilant.

quote from @Arkay . Sanitation trucks, bulldozers, and other sturdy vehicles are parked perpendicular to the streets.

This is such a cheap and effective solution, countrywide. Just some gas money.

Tragedy is an effective teacher, if LE absorbs those lessons.

The NYPD is very experienced in creating frozen zones. Every time the president or foreign dignitaries come to NY, frozen zones are initiated with the perpendicular huge trucks.

I was once on a crosstown bus in Manhattan trying to get to my mammogram appointment. The Obamas were in town to catch a Broadway play. All traffic was halted for an hour and we weren’t even permitted to get off the bus and walk, so I was very late for my appointment.

Years earlier when I was five, we lived in a co-op on the East River. It was publicized that President Kennedy’s motorcade was going to drive right in front of us on the East River Drive, (now known as the FDR Drive). We were able to get up close and wave.

After JFK was assassinated, lessons were learned. The frozen zone is an attempt to keep out not only cars, but buildings in the zone are searched so no one can conceivably shoot from a window, and of course the presidential limo is bulletproof and doesn’t have an open roof like JFK had.

Something like 9/11 was different—it had never happened before so it wasn’t prevented.

Tragedy teaches, unfortunately.

Still, nothing is foolproof, but certain measures should be standard, particularly in a situation which is a ripe target for terrorists.

Sturdier barricades on Bourbon St. that were on hold for the Super Bowl? In hindsight of course, that was a major fail.

But the blame is all on the terrorist.

JMO and experience.

I see the Vegas guy was Special Forces.. Fort Liberty (formerly named Fort Bragg) is a HUGE special forces base. If you are SF you have likely been stationed there, some SF people stay there for their entire careers and never move. I have seen reports that he was an 18Z MOS. Looking that up and it looks like if that is accurate then he was likely an E8 or Master Sergeant and he would be a senior enlisted member of a SF group. If he was stationed at Fort Carson currently, then he was likely with 10th special forces group.

When Jabbar was in the Army and stationed in NC, he would be at the base when it was called Fort Bragg. I haven't seen what years he was in NC. I found a photo in this CNN article that says he was at Fort Johnson (formerly Fort Polk, LA) on Nov 16, 2013. It is listed as 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82 Airborne Division. That is a SF group. So even though Jabbar was HR specialist and IT Specialist he could have been assigned to a SF group where the Vegas guy may have also served.

I think for the actual acts done on the ground, they are saying it was just him. He picked up the truck, he drove alone to Louisiana, he is seen placing the coolers/IEDs, he made videos where he talks about motive and he is alone in them, he drove the truck and committed the physical acts. I think it was important to rule out others placing the IEDs or being involved physically in what took place. At this point if others are involved, I think it's likely via the internet or something not physically involved.

New Orleans Attack Map

There have been many conflicting reports of improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, found at the scene and in the French Quarter. Raia said that two devices were found in the French Quarter. Both devices were active and were found in coolers near intersections in the area. Both were "rendered safe" where they were found, Raia said. Surveillance footage showed Jabbar placing the devices where they were found, Raia said.

Raia said that investigators found two other items of interest that were determined not to be IEDs. He said there have been reports of other devices, but said those reports are misinformation or were for non-functioning devices.

"We do not believe the public is in any danger around any of these locations," Raia said.

This presser is sounding defensive, imo.

Agree. They are trying to avoid lawsuits.

Whatever official spoke yesterday about the barriers that were not where they typically are due to getting ready for the upcoming events is probably regretting it.

This has nothing to do with a terrorist but last year I think New Orleans was the number one capital of murder cases and crime (in the US).

Who was the lady speaking that had a red blouse on? I didn’t see her being introduced.
