Across a four decade-long career, Dr. Arthur Freiman was a champion of special needs students and their families. He created the Tri-Valley Academy, which today serves 83 students with autism. Our condolences to his loved ones.

Lakewood, NJ- Rosemary D. Hegarty, 89, of Lakewood died Friday, May 1, 2020, from complications of Covid-19 Rosemary was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Toms River in 1965. She was a graduate of Erasmus Hall High School and attended Brooklyn College. Mrs. Hegarty was an Administrator for Judge Eugene Serpentelli at the Ocean County Court House for 25 years, retiring in 1994.

Sergeant with Harris County Sheriff’s Office dies from coronavirus after month-long battle, officials say
Sgt. Raymond Scholwinski, 70, fought a “courageous battle against the COVID-19 virus," officials wrote in the release.

“Sgt. Scholwinski began his service with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as a reserve deputy in 1979 and then went on to serve with distinction as a full-time officer for 26 years,” officials wrote. Officials previously told KPRC 2 that he had worked full time with HCSO since 1994.

A father and a daughter, both of whom were doctors, died from COVID-19.
Dr. Satyender Dev Khanna and his daughter Dr. Priya Khanna( previously posted) selfless healthcare heroes, who dedicated their lives to helping others.
Dr. Satyender Dev Khanna served as the head of the surgical department at multiple hospitals across the state. He was one of the first doctors to perform laparoscopic surgery in New Jersey, according to Murphy.

NJ-Shadiack, Antoinette "Toni" (nee Pelosi) died peacefully on April 27th in Somerset, NJ at the age of 81. Toni worked for the Paterson Board of Education for over 40 years as a 4th grade, 5th grade, math resource, computer, and English as a Second Language teacher at P.S #25. She loved her students as if they were her own children.

Corliss Henry, Trailblazing New Jersey Nurse, Dies at 95
She was the first black staff nurse at Muhlenberg Hospital and went on to become a nursing professor. She was one of the few black students at Hunter College High School in the 1940s, then an all-girls school on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. She became, in 1957, the first black nurse on staff at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, N.J., where her husband was the first black person on the sales floor of any store downtown. Mrs. Henry died on April 14 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, N.J. She was 95. The cause was the novel coronavirus, her son Steve said.

Dr. Gerald Glisson, the principal of operations at Eastside High School in Paterson, has died. District Superintendent Eileen Shafer announced the death of the 46-year-old, who has served in the position since 2017, in a email sent late Sunday night.

Relatives told RLS Metro Breaking News Glisson's death was related to the novel coronavirus. Multiple people who knew Glisson told the Paterson Press he had recently tested positive for the virus.

Capt. Andrew DiMaggio, New Rochelle firefighter
31-year veteran Capt. Andrew DiMaggio died of COVID-19. The New Rochelle Fire Department announced his death in a Facebook post and called him "what every firefighter aspires to be."

Salem County- 'Georgie' Callas. Callas was only 27 years old when he passed on Friday. He had Down Syndrome, and while he could not communicate verbally, he would always show his love by showering the people he knew with hugs and kisses.

NEWARK, NJ. — The Newark Department of Public Safety announced Friday that another member of its police division died due to the coronavirus, making this the third in its tally since the onset of the pandemic.
Officer Michael Connors, 58, died at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital on Thursday, his family said. HIs superiors acknowledged him on Thursday as a pillar of the police force.

An NJ Transit worker, Secaucus resident, and Colombian native died from COVID-19 days after his birthday and just one year before his retirement.
“Luis Fernando Marulanda … he came to the United States from Colombia, in Medellin, when he was 22 years old. He lived in Secaucus and was a longtime employee of NJ Transit and New York Waterway before that, taking pride in his work and helping people to get where they needed to go.
“And he was one of those that help pilot the ferries that shuttled residents back home across the Hudson River on 9/11. Throughout this current emergency, he continued serving his passengers as a bus operator for NJ Transit – right until COVID-19 struck him too.”

Lakewood NJ - Linda Benedict of Lakewood, NJ, daughter of Alfred and Wanda Benedict, died of coronavirus at age 63 on May 6, 2020. Linda had a wonderful girlhood under the gentle guidance of Our Lady of Victories Roman Catholic Church and the Jersey City Public School System on her kids-friendly block of Grant Avenue.

Dorothy taught in the Bridgewater public elementary schools including teaching the gifted and talented children at the Van Holten and Adamsville schools.

Bill or "Ike" was a devoted and selfless family man, always concerned for the welfare of his family and friends. There was nothing that could be asked of him that he wouldn't be eager to help with. There was nothing he couldn't fix, a talent much appreciated by his friends and family.
