Combed through 14 hours of video to gain leads as to what happened.

Suspect taken into custody without incident.

A female companion was taken in to custody with him.

Will not tell you what role they played in this crime, we want them to turn themselves in. We are counting on you (media) to get those photos out there.

Motive?

We don't know if they knew one another or not, not going to get into that. Defenseless child. This was a child.

We have not conclusively identified the young person (re the body found)

He was in a field. The body was placed at the location. Wont give details or tell if he died by gunshot.

Questioning why this boy was out at this time of night.

Sheriff very offended. teen boy, it is summer, what teen isn't out and about in the evening during summer months? I want to focus on the adults preying on them.

Each time a child is a victim - the officers that respond to those scenes are traumatized.

I'm not sure I'd jump to the conclusion that this was drug-related, but it's certainly a possibility. Liquor/party store late at night could have been an attempted robbery at closing time. Unless it's confirmed that the teens were involved with drug dealers, these boys were in the wrong place at the wrong time. One of them paid the ultimate price. :moo:

Good point Bette, since we saw video from inside the store that seemed to show the perp brandishing a handgun openly, this could have been a robbery or attempted. The money the cousin described the man dropping could have been some of the money from a robbery. This could have angered the perp and his accomplices. Maybe the main perp kept some money for his own and claimed that the teens had gotten away with much more than they had. Causing all the cohorts to go after the teen boys.

We just don't know.

I watched this newsbreak, Detroit 45 mins east of me. I had tears. Only 13 years old (my youngest is 13). Whatever the circumstances, he didn't deserve to be killed. Fly high sweet boy. I am so sorry for you, your mom and family and friends.

It has not been confirmed yet if there was another person in the car at the time of the kidnapping. That may explain why he did not try to escape the car. Also with the perp having a gun sheer terror may have caused him to freeze. RIP Little Man.

New details of the investigation allege 45-year-old Gregory Walker put Deontae in his car after the 13-year-old and his cousin picked up the money that was dropped by a man outside of Nino's Market Tuesday night.

Walker, police say, then picked up his girlfriend and drove around with Deontae searching for the cousin. At some point during the night, the suspect allegedly dropped his girlfriend off.

Witnesses told police the suspect appeared drunk and was waving his gun around. Later in the evening, police say another person drove both Walker and his girlfriend to Toledo where they were found and arrested this morning.

I am disgusted at the most recent turn of events in Deontae's case. My eldest will turn 13 in a few months, and I can NOT imagine her having to survive on the mean streets of Detroit :no:

A fellow poster referred to Deontae as "Little Man," and I do believe he was just that, as a measure of survival. It was clear to me in the presser how much his Mom/ Family loved and missed him! Now, he is a #ForeverAngel.

My heart truly breaks for them, knowing they've lost him over a mere $75.

His life was worth SO much more... :moo:

I just can't anymore. NOTHING this kid did or didn't do makes it okay for him to be executed.

Yes that guy is in custody. Not sure abut the role the other 2 played. Perp and GF were driven to Ohio by somebody? Also not sure who was at the home search warrant was executed on.

I just can't . . .

I am with the sheriff. I am angry. Particularly in the cases of Crimes against Children,people need to speak. People need to say what they know and what they see.

I watched that surveillance video of D being pulled into that car and there were several other adults in the area who saw it happening. Not a one of them even so much as blinked.

Shameful.

Policing a community does not start with the police. It starts with the residents. Without that cooperation police cannot effectively protect and serve. It really is that danged simple.

OMG EFF THAT... I wish he had jumped out and run. I learned in safety class that if you are put into a car the odds are high you aren't coming back.
