Anyone arguing that Jason was in a happily committed marriage is simply off their oats, if you ask me. That dog just won't hunt.....nobody "happy" in their marriage has an affair - or spends endless time e-mailing and chatting it up with his wife's good friend on the sly for that matter, takes a job to stay out on the road traveling, takes a family vacation without his wife and child, and one or both parties seeking therapy. I mean c'mon, it's as clear as the nose on your face - he was not happy in his marriage. You're so right Strach!
I personally think that Jason didn't care about his wife. I don't think that he ever really loved her. He felt pressured into marrying her and continued to do as he pleased. I think that she put up with this behavior for a while, probably hoping that he would eventually settle down. Things seemed to get worse, not better in their marriage.
I can imagine that Michelle was well aware of his distance in many ways. He probably was never around. Yet, when he was, he was on the computer or on his cell phone. What a perfect excuse to say that he was helping "her" friend, MM, through a rough time in her marriage. After all, MM needed a male perspective on things, I am sure that he reasoned.
MY probably got more and more suspicious and Jason, all the while, was telling her that she was imagining things and that she was paranoid, etc. I think that is why she went to a therapist.
A therapist would give her an unbiased opinion of what she thought of the situation. Perhaps, MY even told Jason that her therapist said that her feelings were valid and that he should not be acting the way that he was.
Perhaps, the therapist even told her to put her foot down and make some demands or she should consider ending the marriage (which was really one-sided).
This could have angered Jason because he knew that his number was quickly going to be up. He didn't want a divorce because he would lose quite a bit, not to mention child support for two children. No, the only way that Jason could see out of this was to murder his wife and unborn son.
Jason didn't love Michelle and probably blamed her for the entire situation anyway. She, after all, got herself pregnant and forced him into a situation that he didn't want to be in. Then, she had the nerve to get pregnant again. Man, couldn't she take the hint with the accident. No, she has to get pregnant yet a third time...
He's sweating it. However, with each passing day, I think that his nervousness eases a little. He probably is beginning to think that he committed the perfect crime.
