I want this doctor to explain why GF couldn't breathe before Chauvin put his knee on neck/shoulder.

That is a good question: my impression is that Mr. Floyd was panicking at that point- he also was claustrophobic ----he had a very heightened level of anxiety which affected his breathing

I've been following when I can. It's so difficult to watch.
Is Dr Tobin an expert witness, very compelling and clear, or was he actually involved in the ER?

IMO, this witness is charming and intelligent, with an absolutely musical voice/ accent. When he said 'stuuurdy'
( mispelled on purpose) I giggled. If I was sitting in the jury box, I would have done the Hokey Pokey if he asked me to!

I feel like a nerd, but I love this man :D

An expert, I believe.

When I have panic attacks, I gasp for breath and feel like I have an elephant sitting on my chest and my heart pounds. I think Mr Floyd may have been having a panic attack.

MOO

ETA: I would think trained LE could easily recognize a panic attack.

Dr. Tobin says he's able to tell the precise time of where George Floyd lost consciousness.

He also notes "as an ICU doctor...we're always looking at facial features to be able to tell consciousness."

And he also tells us of the hypoxic/anoxic/myoclonic seizure (which happens automously due to fatal brains 02 levels/drastically low brain levels this happens) he had at 20:24:22 where GF's legs jumps up.

I had thought previously that Lane had lifted his legs. I had not realized until just now that they "jumped up/stiffened" and Lane actually pushed them back down!

Very compelling witness, easy to understand, not a bunch of medical terms the average person may or may not understand.

Wooooooow. That was.. wonderful how he explained everything. And by ending it that he had his knee on him for over 2 minutes after no pulse.

Dr. Tobin just pointed out that at this point, GF was attempting to slightly rock his body to the side to gasp his last breaths.

They're playing video and Dr. Tobin points out the moment when Floyd's eyes flicker in consciousness...and then when he is no longer conscious. He then marks a point & says "That's the moment the life goes out of his body."

Dr. Tobin leaves the jurors w/ this: Chauvin's knee stayed on Floyd's neck for another 3 min and 27 secs after his last breath, remains after there's no pulse, and continues for 2 min and 44 secs after the officers have found no pulse. It stays for another two mins 44 secs.

They are now on lunch break. Back at 1:30 p.m.

He was already having trouble breathing before they ever tried to put him in the car. It could have been from anxiety. He kept saying he was scared and claustrophobic.

I would suspect panic attack. One of my grandkids has panic attacks and will usually say they can't breathe.

IMO, certainly would not be surprising if one is greeted by an officer with a gun aimed at the face.

I’m guessing that Nelson won’t be eating any lunch on his break!

On that last video clip, we can see DC's hand pushing GF's hand back and applying extra pressure on the hand adding more torture and pain just before death.

Yes, I've been waiting for that moment to be highlighted since the beginning of the trial. There is no excuse for the police officers not noticing! They were right there. The bystanders knew it, you can hear William's voice go up higher and higher and can sense the urgency from all of them. Chauvin's response was to spray them with mace while Thao shouted, "Don't come over here!" Keung and Lane knew because they both stopped restraining him. Chauvin was the only one who kept right on putting pressure on his neck.

Wow, Dr Tobin is a BRILLIANT witness IMO. He clearly has an EXTREMELY thorough understanding of respiratory physiology. I think he is also explaining all the mechanisms and factors involved very clearly. It is a lot to take in, and I've even paused the feed to take notes.

What a great scientist (IMO), even if he is a "foreigner" ;);).

Martin J. Tobin, MD

That was so hard to watch IMO, knowing now, what exactly was going on for Mr. Floyd :(

They just showed the picture of Floyd's waist moving up and down and the last 7 or 8 breaths he took. This was around 8:25, when one of the officers saw that he was passed out.

20:24:22 timestamp of example of leg with hypoxic seizure (Lane bc)
20:24:58 timestamp of the 17 seconds on stand counting breaths at 22 resp/minute (Keung bc)

screenshots with timestamps... (I believe that one is lane and one is Keung.. and many days ago I noted they were about 20 seconds different... wish they would sync them MOO)

20:25:16 was his last breath per this witness

That was amazing testimony--so clear and so damning and so powerful. My thoughts are with Mr. Floyd's family today. Watching this must be heartbreaking. To see your loved one try and raise his right side, use his fingers to push against the tire to get some air. I can't even imagine. I am undone and I didn't know the man.

The photo of Chauvin's boot off the ground --inferring that his body weight is directly down on Mr. Floyd's neck ---OMG.

I keep hoping for justice for this man.
