It is tough to watch Nelson with this medical questioning. Shame he did not have a member of his team that was more knowledgeable on medical terms.

My mom has a slightly enlarged heart, elevated cholesterol levels and hypertension. Her cardiologist has described her in multiple occasions as having an extremely strong heart. Maybe it has something to do with that specific person’s ability to develop collateral vessels in the heart? Not sure.

He is struggling alright: asking about a prone patient in the ICU was a place he shouldn't have gone! It is surprising there isn't an attorney with medical knowledge cross examine medical witnesses. Makes me wonder how many resources they are putting into the defense. The cause of death and medical issues are the essence of this case.

Interesting, I don't find it that tough to watch, I think it makes him more likable, he's just a regular guy trying to pronounce big medical words lol


Also, I think Nelson is a 1 man team. No one else is on record as an attorney for Chauvin. He may have some help in the background, but they can't come into court and ask questions.

Not a chance, he has tried...hard. There is just no case for the defense to make IMO.

I don't see any reason for ineffectiveness of counsel at this point, not even close. Nelson has done a good job so far IMO

Wanna know how many unsuccessful appellate cases are out there in which attorneys literally fell asleep while defending an ultimately convicted client? Lots. Lots and lots and lots. (Horrible too, might I add.)

But if that doesn't get someone an appeal granted, it's pretty unlikely Mr. Nelson's hypothetical spaghetti defense is going to imo.

"Yes, I believe he would have lived."
Court takes morning recess.

Pool reporter notes re jury reaction during this morning's testimony by Rich: When he said did not die from primary heart event or drug overdose "Entire jury is writing furiously". All jurors take notes when Rich says death was preventable.

Nelson now cross-exam of state's cardiologist, Dr. Jonathan Rich.

Nelson: In other words, if he (floyd) would have gotten in squad car, he'd be alive?
Dr. Rich says his answer remains the same that he has no reason to think that if he wasn't subjected to the scenario that happened that day, he'd be alive.

Dr. Jonathan Rich - “collateral arteries” is another high hurdle the defense will have to overcome. Nelson needs medical experts that have a better CV than these witnesses and say the exact opposite for there to be reasonable doubt.

Yeesh... I almost felt bad for Nelson at some points during his cross... Isn't any lawyer's Number One rule to not ask any question if you don't already know the answer? Cringeworthy, IMO.

It has been rumoured that he has others assisting, like the other officers attorney's. But he is the only attorney on record for Chauvin.

The State however has 10-12 attorney's on record, which means any of them can come in and question or argue a motion.

That wouldn't surprise me but it would seem to me that given how important the medical issues are in this case, they would have a more knowledgeable attorney regarding medicine, cross examine medical witnesses. That last witness, the cardiologist, really did circles around Mr. Nelson-- he did not allow him to put him in a corner with his "do you agree"--- this witness agreed to almost nothing Mr. Nelson put to him.

I suspect he knew the answers to all the questions, all the experts have to provide reports to the other side before testifying. When the defense presents their own medical experts, I expect to see the counter-argument.
