#DerekChauvinTrial - Prosecutor shows this now well know photo of #GeorgeFloyd to Ross. She describes the photos as a "dad selfie".

George.jpg

Ross says they both struggled with opioid addiction. "Classic story", saying they both suffered with chronic pain, both had prescriptions. "We got addicted and tried really hard to break that addiction many times."

“He liked playing sports with neighborhood kids”

(I don’t know, I’m not sure about this one, her effectiveness, hard to explain-I’m not saying anything derogatory by ANY means, just sayin, “I’m not sure”...)

eta: Ahhh, “did he ever complain about shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?”

“No.”

I think I mentioned before that George was a basketball player at school in Houston, then he went on to play tight end for his school's football team. He really, really wanted to get a football scholarship ... but his educational standard wasn't enough for him to pass the exam he needed to pass.

Using this witness to highlight fitness level of GF. Trying to counter any suggestion that his heart was weak.

I don't think everyone on the jury will warm to this witness. There is an element of 'performance' about her IMO. But seems she's not going to be on the stand for long.

ETA: I do think it was useful to add the context around his substance abuse. I.e pain medication for injury and try to humanise that side of his background.

Good morning WS Friends.
Don't know, but gives insight to many folks. Some folks perhaps don't have the same pain and or empathy of others as to losing a loved one. MOO We are all different and what "hits the mark".

When my mother died, I went off the deep end into an addiction for two years. A downward spiral in my life. I'm lucky that I recovered. It took 2 years to get out of it. MOO

So yes, this is to give insight and let the jury understand him as a person.
Thank you for sharing your own experience with loss and addiction. You are so right, we all are different.

We are going to see many types of witnesses and IMO we need to use humility, as you have, in judging them.

I missed part of her testimony. Breakfast time LOL. He’s gonna tear into her I think.

Witness mentions his sports injury, neck to shoulder blade, if I heard correctly.

Mention of opioid prescriptions wrt to sports injury.

I think he’s trying to purger her. Is purger a word? Lol

I agree. I find her very off-putting, but can't find the right words to express why. Just seems inappropriate in some way. (I have not seen any of her media interviews that others have mentioned.)

Sounds like Morries Hall was a drug dealer. I’m not surprised he wants to plead the 5th.

Ohhh Maurice Hall was the dealer!! Makes sense now!

I was wondering about his covid, so according to this witness, she recalls his covid test came back positive in late March.

This reminds me, @Lilibet and @Sillybilly, you both had mentioned his covid in the last thread. I had been meaning to comment that I do think it’s entirely likely, based on what we know about covid, and you know L first hand, that he could have had post effects, trouble breathing, hence his mentioning of this from the onset. I have some neighbors, a young healthy couple in their twenties, who told me they’re out of breath all the time.

Ohhh Maurice Hall was the dealer!! Makes sense now!

(I figured this already, jmo.)

As his girlfriend, this is cathartic for her, and many times courts and defense attys don't attack such victims/witnesses on the stand as it makes them look bad.

This is their time to have their voice and tell their stories. MOO To let the jury know the victim.
Agree 100% @dixiegirl1035 . Nelson would do a disservice to his client, in eyes of the jury, to tear into GF's girlfriend.
