Mom sells teen's car after finding alcohol

I had a feeling—that Mom thing—that something wasn’t quite right with the car. Steven seemed to be acting a little weird, so when he wasn’t around I went through it. I snooped... The car was parked in the driveway and I just felt something was odd, so while he was in the shower, I went outside and looked through it. I looked under the seat and the the first thing I found was a bottle of alcohol.

I think emancipation is when you are under the age of 18 and need to be legally an "adult".


But in momma's house, momma's rule still are supposed to rule, right? Over 18 or not.

Either way, my house my rules apply. I do believe that this mom was not outrageous in the rule that she set down. I also believe that her son understood the rule and then broke it.

That is so the child can receive support until the age of 21. Different agreements are written different ways...

I actually think it is nice that they have changed it so that children can receive support until 21 though. especially with kids going to college, because it is so expensive. a lot of kids drop out because of the cost, because more and more parents can't or won't foot the bill - especially the non-custodial ones. and it is hard for single parents to do it alone.

Jane: When we bought the car, we told him no alcohol in vehicle—and he broke that rule, so that’s why we had to sell it. We bought him the car over Thanksgiving, so he only had it for three weeks when I found the alcohol. We bought him a 1999 Olds Intrigue. It was an awesome car.

NY law is 21. My agreement is actually until my daughter is 22.
That covers 4 years of school.

As far as setting rules for "adult" children. I try to be reasonable.
I expect everybody in our home to be respectful of each other.
I will not sit back and allow anything illegal or dangerous. Other than that
I do allow my children room to grow and make her own mistakes, as well as their own accomplishements.

Back to this situation, the mother and the son had an agreement. He broke his end of the promise, so he had to suffer the consequences.
It doesn't matter if anyone thinks it's too harsh, he agreed to it.
