I would like to see an accurate pic of him. Not sure if we have an accurate likeness of him posted. But he sounds low income, possible recent incarceration from what has been posted here. He regularly travels to Tucson... with the right connections, he may be a guy to to the task. MOO
All speculation

For fun, I googled how hard this would be to do. IMHO, anyone could do it --- not all would be successful but there are step by step directions online on how to do this, should someone want to.
He also could have been a side player, like someone paid to case her house…

Am I being naive in thinking a delivery guy who is trying to make some money to move his family out of his MIL's house would not have the sophistication nor be tech savvy enough to set up a secret untraceable Bitcoin account? Or is it something you can easily learn?
Then again, he could be part of a group, and this guy's job was only to kidnap an elderly lady.
If they are arresting him for being involved with the bitcoin wallet, it seems he did fail at setting up a secret untraceable bitcoin account to begin with…

I don’t think that’s what this is about, but that particular logic doesn’t track… it being too sophisticated while also failing at doing the thing at the same time…

Brian Entin's interview with mother-in-law of man detained

She changed her story significantly. The first video (posted up thread) she says she told them to search her house because they have nothing to hide. This latest video she flips the script and says they entered without a warrant, she told them they can't do it without a warrant but they insisted they don't need a warrant. Sketchy behavior IMO. She may just be changing her story to try to sue LE later or something stupid like that. Hard to say at this point but she was definitely caught in a big lie there.

I'm skeptical he's the guy (in either the ransom or the kidnapping, assuming they're unrelated or related) unless he's just one part of a larger group conspiracy in this. JMO.

I'm just not loving this being the guy. Apparently this was based on a "tip," and the interview with his mother-in-law did not give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

We've seen this in a couple recent cases, where the Feds jump the gun. More of the same I fear.
Agreed, but hoping they know more than we do.

Josefina described her son-in-law as a “good guy,” who does not have a criminal record or history of being violent. After being shown surveillance photos of the individual on Nancy Guthrie’s ring camera, Josefina denied it beared a resemblance to Carlos.

BBM - not saying MIL's word should be taken as complete truth but this is what she has said

Yeah, I am not sure I think she is a reliable witness. Maybe it's because it's all happening so fast, maybe she's realized how deep her SIL could possibly be in.

Would love to know what they presented to a judge to get this search warrant.

I think it's more likely he attempted to scam family with the bitcoin ransom notes

Was she inviting the reporter or LE to search?

The tip was supposedly that Nancy was in there, so they wouldn't need a warrant in the first place (exigency).

To be clear, the son is NOT who shows as having a previous (horrible) arrest. Its (possibly) his father who has the same name.

Thinking back to the security camera footage of the neighbor in Nancy’s neighborhood who had a trespasser… was the trespasser wearing a FedEx uniform or something similar?
It looked like an amazon vest. But that guy was much younger.

But he doesn't sound sophisticated enough for TOR/Onion VPN routing though imo

IMO, if this guy is a bona fide POI, he didn't do this alone. I'd think he is part of a group, perhaps each accomplice having a particular role.

Yeah, if I was to pick one or the other, that'd be it. Still skeptical though. JMO.

I hear you, but they don't issue warrants solely based on tips.

JMO.

I’m not sure the tip thing was actually true. It’s just a way to get around explaining the evidence used in your probably sealed search warrant so that it doesn’t leak out when she inevitably goes and talks to half a dozen media outlets.

JMO
