AZ Nancy Guthrie, 84, (mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie) missing - last seen in the Catalina foothills area on Jan 31, 2026

I'm interested to know if any of Nancy's debit/credit cards were missing from her home. It is possible that someone decided to kidnap her to take her to withdraw money from any of her accounts but she was injured possibly killed in the process.
Then when the case went national this individual decided to write the ransom letter to get money that way.
Yes I thought that too but leaving her purse and no money taken from her bank and then being hurt if the blood sputter area was from nose or mouth . I have thought about the 1099s going out in January too.. I was thinking bigger than just a ATM but you could be correct.

IIRC the first ransom message was received by TMZ on the Monday, and, purely through SG being who she is, the story went national as soon as the disappearance was announced on the Monday. Onoy my opinion but I think if you were going to kidnap someone for ransom, you’d wait until the story broke before making the first ransom demand. You’re wanting to instil terror, increase the likelihood the family will pay you through fewr of what you’ll do to their loved one.

A day of them not knowing a thing about what has happened to their relative could be important in amping up that fear.. if the first the family knew of NG being missing was from a ransom note rather than naturally finding out she’s gone themselves, I think it changes the dynamic. If there’s an element of ego to the perps, I think you’d also want both the initial shock of the disappearwnce and then a later ransom demand coming in to be two separate stories in their own right, which you wouldn’t get if you sent a ransom demand on the Sunday morning straight after the kidnap, before NG’s disapearance was diacovered.

If this is an actual flashlight that is held inside the mouth - I guess knowing what jobs a person would typically use this is in more frequently would be a good place to start and were those workers recently at or near the house? Anyone can buy it, but someone who uses this type of light regularly in say their job would be comfortable using it and likely have it on hand..as this person seemed.
Good Morning my fellow Sluethers!

This is a great point. Right--it could have been purchased anywhere, anytime. However, I'm guessing it was purchased by the perp to use in this crime. With that in mind, what is the most common place one would look for something like this? I would think Amazon. I hope the FBI has reached out to Amazon to see what transactions involved a mouth light like that. It would be linked to an address it was sent to. Hopefully, FBI has data search warrant for something like this. I would assume same with Walmart and the backpack, since it appears to be sold there.

Let today be the day! 🌹

What truly baffles me is that in all the footage I've watched and all the articles I've read, I see almost no mention of detection or cadaver dogs. They are so close to the border and have access to the best dogs available. Have I missed something?
I haven’t seen the dogs, but I did see something from the BBC last night saying they were at NG’s house and ““sniffer dogs” were being used”……

I don’t think they’d “clear these things up” in a press conference. The police themselves seem satisfied that they know NG made it home, so the only reason for showing some kind of proof publicly would be to attempt to debunk online theories that are upsetting to an already-stressed family or an unhelpful distraction from LE’s investigative work, but even if they did show that, as you quite rightly say, those who have already made up their mind aren’t going to “move on”, they’d just move the goalposts and find a way to make the facts fit their theories.

They’ve got a much more important job to do than to constantly provide evidence that could potentially damage a future case, just to satisfy the whims of some people online. It’d be a never-ending, time-wasting, cat-and-mouse game if law enforcement had to publicly refute every speculative theory in every crime, and nothing would ever get solved.

I think there are plenty of people, though, who are willing to abandon their theories when new evidence seems to refute them. I know I certainly have in the past several days...

I have been thinking of Amazon also.

I know they have said that FBI will be checking out sporting goods stores and retail outlets, and I hope online Amazon will be included in that search.

Hi Mistermagoo, thank you for replying to my post earlier. My thoughts are maybe Ms. Guthrie had recently had her car serviced. I don't know if anyone else has suggested or said this. It could be worth checking into by the authorities.
Very possible. I have not seen anything about that. I try to keep up with the x account
@MattBlacInc . He seems to be able to find that kind of info somehow. That is where I learned of the 2 electrical contractors that Nancy had as recent as Sept.

I'm assuming you are speaking about this:

Authorities are asking residents near Nancy Guthrie’s home to check their security camera footage from two days in January as they piece together “a new timeline” in the case, according an alert posted on the Neighbor App by Ring.

Investigators are looking for footage from:

January 11 between 9 p.m. and midnight, more than two weeks before the 84-year-old went missing, and January 31 between 9:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., flagging a suspicious vehicle in the area around 10 a.m., according to the alert.

Very specific date. January 11. Was this the date a neighbor reported someone in his yard or could the tower dump have shown a cell phone being in the area on those 2 dates? I don’t have a link to the neighbors remark so I could be wrong on that. JMHO

I’m still curious as to what they were looking for on the roof. That we’re looking around all over it. Just looking for Nancy’s camera?

To me this is unlikely. With the way the suspect was dressed, with the full backpack and firearm, if he was there with the intent to steal her debt/credit cards he could have just demanded them along with pin numbers. Having her along for that ride to a bank doesn't fit for me. She's more of a problem in this scenario to deal with afterward. Also, I think there's a limit to how much can be withdrawn. Also, those 🤬🤬🤬 or withdrawals would be easy to track.

At this moment, subject to change, I think this person(s) was there to specifically murder NG. The distracting ransom demands are not connected at all. I say person(s) because the suspect in the video might not be the mastermind behind this tragic event. I also don't think this suspect is some professional assassin either. While they look silly to me with a firearm hanging above their crotch w/ a holster that's likely meant for the inside of your waistband, and grabs flowers from her beds, this person likely showed extreme violence towards NG in just removing her from the home. IMO

As prepared as "Lantana Man" appeared to be (mask(s), gloves...), I too wondered why they wouldn't have been prepared for camera by having a piece of tape - but then it dawned on me how tape can be traced and could easily have fingerprints on them, so maybe that's why no tape was used??? JMO
I'm no criminal mastermind, but even I've seen the movies where the masked bad guy sprays the security camera with shaving cream.

So while this creep had the foresight to mask/glove up and load up a backpack, said backpack contained nothing to blind a security camera.

Not the sharpest crayon in the box, our mystery Crayola.

Which is what makes it a real stretch for me to believe that he's the one who authored the emails demanding the Bitcoin.

JMO.

It is not a date range. It’s a range of times on two specific dates.

My mistake, perhaps this was prompted by reviews of video in the date range that cased them to hone in on person(s)..which would make sense imo.

I've got a security storm door on both my front and garage side door. No crime here. I just like it because you can leave it open, let air in and it feels secure.
It’s interesting because since 1972 I have always had a security system (burglar alarm) where I lived. It’s set at night and if someone breaks in, it blasts sirens and calls the police. I wonder if in this area of AZ residents don’t use security systems?

Just a random thought on the backpack. Do we know if other cameras were missing? perhaps that was this guys job, sweeping the property. Perhaps other cameras he took down in his backpack

They are also asking neighbors what cars they drive and specifically asking about a truck.

The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have also been questioning neighbors about “what cars [they] drive and if [they] have a truck.”

Neighbor David Romano confirmed to NBC on Thursday, “They’ve been asking for a truck.”

Totally agree that there’d be people who would change their minds, but it’s not LE’s job to change people’s minds about online theories, it’s to focus on the investigation. I just can’t see them addressing such things publicly in a press conference unless they thought it was actually relevant to their case to do so.

I like your analysis. So this could imply that the person has some telecoms/I.T. expertise possibly, or can one glean this off the internet?
Anyone familiar with IT would know the data is recoverable until overwritten. If this was his thinking it indicates he is less familiar with how these are networked than many lay people, not more.
