RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Police: 15-year-old boy who fatally shot five along a North Carolina walking trail is hospitalized in critical condition.

BREAKING: Raleigh Police Chief Stella Patterson says last night’s active shooter is in the hospital in critical condition. The suspect is a 15-year-old white male. 59-year-old victim Marcel Gardner is still in critical at WakeMed as well. Youngest victim killed was 16.

Patterson identifies the off-duty police officer killed as 29-year-old Gabriel Torres. Patterson says Torres was on his way in to work when he was shot and killed.

I couldn't figure out who the 5th fatality was: I knew about the officer, the two women (he allegedly shot them and their dogs ),and the 16 yo. I didn't know about the 35 yo woman. This is all so very sad. I believe it started out as a domestic, but became random...MOO.

I do wonder if the off-duty police officer had on his uniform ... supposedly the shooter shot him through his car windows. I can't figure out what would've triggered this. I thought maybe he didn't want anyone to ID him with the people in the park, but why the guy just sitting in his car?

Friday morning, Raleigh's Police Chief Estella D. Patterson said the off-duty officer who was killed, Torres, was on his way to work.

Are reporters asking these questions?

Did he shooter’s parents or teachers know he was mentally unstable?
Did anyone know he had access to weapons?
Did he make threats, or post disturbing things online?
Did the other kids know something was “off” with him?
Does he have a history of violence or has there been violence in the home?

These are all questions that people usually talk about early on when teenagers go on shooting rampages but this case seems like even the community who must have known him isn’t talking, or it’s being ignored by msm.

A woman who arrived in the neighborhood just moments before the initial shooting said she saw the shooter herself.
"He had to be between 13 and 16 max -- he was a child," she said.
WRAL News spoke to another witness who said he saw the shooter outside his back window just moments after he heard gunshots.
The man said he saw a woman running down the greenway trail in the same area just before he heard shots.

Speaking of Lyric and Devin the suspect hasn't been released in that case since he's a minor, but in this case they released the suspects name. I wonder why they can in this case. Does anyone know?

I am wondering if the parents allowed it, as one of their other sons was one of the victims. Alternatively, the DA has already stated that she intends to seek to try him as an adult, so I don't know if that has any impact or not. JMO

"If the subject does survive, we will be proceeding with the intent of sending it to superior court," she said. "In consideration of the mass number of lives lost, it’s appropriate that this case be handled in superior court and this individual prosecuted as an adult."
