NC - Officer, several others dead at Raleigh active shooting scene, 13 Oct 2022 *suspect is a minor*

I am local to this, living in the greater RDU area, and have just come here, as we have been saturated with local coverage since this first began yesterday evening. <modsnip> Does anyone know if type of weapon has been confirmed?

Prayers to all the families impacted by yet another senseless act of violence, and to the entire community.

Apparently, (at this point) no one has clarified what the weapon was exactly.

A local man had this to say:

Woodrow Glass, a 74-year-old retiree, was a neighbor of Connors in the neighborhood where the shooting happened. He said the shooting highlights the need for policies to keep guns out of the hands of juveniles. While the type of weapon used wasn’t clear, Glass noted that the gun had enough power to cause multiple deaths.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Police: 15-year-old boy who fatally shot five along a North Carolina walking trail is hospitalized in critical condition.

@KeenanWRAL

BREAKING: Raleigh Police Chief Stella Patterson says last night’s active shooter is in the hospital in critical condition. The suspect is a 15-year-old white male. 59-year-old victim Marcel Gardner is still in critical at WakeMed as well. Youngest victim killed was 16.

Patterson identifies the off-duty police officer killed as 29-year-old Gabriel Torres. Patterson says Torres was on his way in to work when he was shot and killed.

@steph_pagones

@raleighpolice have ID'd the 5 victims killed in last night's #shooting as 29yo off-duty Police Officer Gabriel Torres, who was on his way 2 work; Nicole Conners,52; Susan Karnatz,49; Mary Marshall,35; & a 16yo boy.
bolding mine.
Because of the perp's age, he'll likely be charged as a juvenile ?
Horrible.
Like he was hunting humans.

Rest in peace to the deceased. :(

I am wondering if the parents allowed it, as one of their other sons was one of the victims. Alternatively, the DA has already stated that she intends to seek to try him as an adult, so I don't know if that has any impact or not. JMO

"If the subject does survive, we will be proceeding with the intent of sending it to superior court," she said. "In consideration of the mass number of lives lost, it’s appropriate that this case be handled in superior court and this individual prosecuted as an adult."

That makes sense. Thank you for your detailed response.

Speaking of Lyric and Devin the suspect hasn't been released in that case since he's a minor, but in this case they released the suspects name. I wonder why they can in this case. Does anyone know?
I really think it has to do with the brother being a victim, but those parents can you imagine, your son was shot, by your other son, we need to search your house now.

James was a Junior and Austin was a sophomore at Knightdale High School. According to the school calendar it's Homecoming week. The Homecoming game is tonight and the dance is scheduled for Saturday. :(

At the time of the shooting, Marshall was taking her dog Scruff for a walk on Neuse River Greenway trail.

"She had called her fiancé Rob and said, 'I’m walking the dog, I’m hearing these gunshots, can you come home?' And that was the last conversation that they had had,” McCrickard said.

McCrickard said Marshall's dog “Scruff sat with her all night and didn’t leave.”

The mailbox doesn't look like a shotgun was used.

crazy. About 10 miles southeast of me just off of 540. Golf course community with densely packed homes. Raleigh Greenway trails are very beautiful and spread all over the city and Wake County. So Sad.

WCPSS site said Knightdale High School, where the shooter and his brother he killed attended, Homecoming game for tonight and dance was postponed.

Someone above commented about this being in a neighborhood near the Greenway so it seems to be a domestic situation that went way too far? It’s probably best to postpone the activities for now.
