I have been wracking my brain to figure out what the difference is between this case and the recent one I won’t mention by name to avoid derailment. Both cases involve communities that are hardly wealthy, both involve awful accusations toward people we aren’t allowed to accuse. Both are toddlers gone without much of a trace. Neither are the typical Caucasian families that many feel get easiest exposure. Both communities are said to harbor distrust of LE for different reasons. Yet one case was solved and this one silently drags on. Why? To me, one is the difference in the LE. While I agree with the theory of fear of deportment, there is still a lack of approachability here that the other case didn’t have. How many pressers have happened with only more mounting questions and more frustration? For me, it’s many. And the biggest difference that I see is helplessness. The other case was full of fiery and determined people in the community and nationwide who would have moved mountains to get the child back. Can you imagine going up against that child’s grandmothers to prevent them from getting to her? I can’t! In this case, I keep thinking the effect is shyness or quietness. But it’s more like helplessness now that I think about it. Like they don’t know where to turn or who to ask or what to do. That is a crying shame.
