New York to expand definition of rape after E Jean Carroll’s case against Trump

Current definition was factor in Carroll’s sexual abuse case, which was highlighted by Governor Kathy Hochul at bill ceremony

The current law defines rape as vaginal penetration by a penis. The new law broadens the definition to include nonconsensual anal, oral, and vaginal sexual contact. Highlighting Carroll’s case at a bill signing ceremony in Albany, the Democratic governor said the new definition will make it easier for rape victims to bring cases forward to prosecute perpetrators. The law will apply to sexual assaults committed on or after 1 September this year.

Roberta Kaplan says Trump threw papers across table at Mar-a-Lago deposition because his legal team agreed to feed her lunch:

Attorney Roberta Kaplan said former President Donald Trump threw papers across a table and stormed off during a deposition at Mar-a-Lago after learning that his legal team had agreed to provide her lunch.

Kaplan, who has represented clients in high-profile cases against Trump, including E. Jean Carroll, said on an episode of the “George Conway Explains it All (to Sarah Longwell)” podcast recorded Thursday that she rejected the former president’s request that they work through a lunch break because he believed the deposition was “a waste of my time.”

“And then you could kind of see the wheel spinning in his brain. You could really almost see it,” Kaplan told Republican strategist Sarah Longwell and conservative attorney George Conway, a longtime Trump critic. “And he said, ‘Well, you’re here in Mar-a-Lago. What do you think you’re going to do for lunch? Where are you going to get lunch?’”

Kaplan said she told him that his attorneys had “graciously offered to provide” her team with lunch — a common civil practice between opposing legal teams.

“At which point there was a huge pile of documents, exhibits, sitting in front of him, and he took the pile and he just threw it across the table. And stormed out of the room,” Kaplan shared, adding that Trump specifically yelled at his lawyer Alina Habba for providing them lunch.

“He really yelled at Alina for that. He was so mad at Alina,” she said.

Kaplan continued: “He came back in and he said, ‘Well, how’d you like the lunch?’ And I said, ‘Well, sir, I had a banana. You know, I can never really eat when I’m taking testimony.’ And he said, ‘Well, I told you,’ — it was kind of charming. He said, ‘I told you, I told them to make you really bad sandwiches, but they can’t help themselves here. We have the best sandwiches.’”

In a separate anecdote, Kaplan detailed the end of the deposition when she was set to leave, saying that Trump told her: “See you next Tuesday” – a phrase that is often used as a derogatory euphemism directed at women.

“We come in the room and I say, ‘I’m done asking questions’ and immediately I hear from the other side, ‘Off the record. Off the record. Off the record.’ So they must have planned it. And he looks at me from across the table and he says, ‘See you next Tuesday,’” she recounted.

Kaplan said that she was initially confused, as their next meeting was set for a Wednesday. “You could tell it was like, it was like a kind of a joke again, like teenage boys would come up with. But again, I wasn’t in on the joke,” she said.

Me too. Guess I’ve led a sheltered life. But don’t insult pigs! How about disgustingly gross human being? And what does it say about the women who worship the ground he walks on?

I love piggies too. Sorry, it was just an expression.

Pigs are actually very intelligent animals and contrary to popular opinion they like to stay clean and like the area around them clean. If there is any rubbish or droppings around where they sleep, they do their housekeeping and nudge it as far away from themselves as possible.

Typical circus showman stupid tricks.

And typical teenage boy derogatory language to women. I'm sure he thought it was infinitely funny.

I’m surprised he got the words in the right order. He must be used to saying it. Slug. IMO

I should have put a smiley face. I was kidding about the pig insult. No apology needed. :) Except from Trump.

I doubt it, but maybe he is managing (just) to keep them private. And yes he is a slug (with apologies to slugs!)

Disgusting pig of a man...

Not only is he disgusting .. but his disgusting lawyers just let this stuff happen. Notice how they said "off the record, off the record, off the record". Knowing what was about to come out of trump's mouth.

Of course they can't stop trump's mouth from running, but there are many different ways to try to circumvent that. The first way would be to NOT say "off the record".

But then they might not continue to become richer. In defending trump, Habba has made $6M in legal fees, Kise has made $5.1M, the firm Kise now works for has made $5.4M ... all from donor money, of course.

imo

E Jean Carroll lawyer says Trump used coded version of C-word against her

Roberta Kaplan says ex-president directed ‘See you next Tuesday’ remark at her after deposition in unrelated case at Mar-a-Lago

[…]

For her part, Kaplan appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America on Monday and expressed confidence that her team would be able to collect the judgment against Trump.

“We might not get it right way,” she said. “But one way or the other, he owns a lot of real estate. It can be sold.”

Vile. This man has something wrong with him. His egomania.

Because it matters. I wish every woman and every decent man would read all that this presidential candidate has said about women.

imo
I suspect that most have read his comments and the majority of his supporters laugh and laugh some more as Trump's derogatory comments about women keep coming.
Trump's women devotees believe it's not them he's degrading and the men believe it's not the Trump women they know that he's degrading.
They all believe that trump loves them. lol

A political action committee closely tied to Donald Trump's re-election bid recently spent close to a quarter of a million dollars to investigate the quality of work of his legal team which has now suffered two losses to E. Jean Carroll and her attorneys.

Donald Trump’s lawyers asked a New York judge Friday to suspend an $83.3 million defamation verdict against the former president, saying there was a “strong probability” that it would be reduced on appeal, if not eliminated.

The lawyers made the request in Manhattan federal court, where a civil jury in late January awarded the sum to advice columnist E. Jean Carroll after a five-day trial that focused only on damages. A judge had ordered the jury to accept the findings of another jury that last year concluded Trump sexually abused Carroll in 1996 and defamed her in 2022.
