I must watch too much T.V. How long does it take to get the results of a lie-dector test? I thought they knew right away.

Source: Kidnapped girl's mom takes lie detector test

WEST PHILADELPHIA - January 23, 2013 (WPVI) -- Police sources tell Action News that the mom of a 5-year-old girl, who was kidnapped from a West Philadelphia school last week, has taken a lie detector test.

Those sources said she was also re-interviewed by police on Tuesday. Investigators are still awaiting the results of that lie detector test.

If I'm remembering what I've read in the past, a pass or fail is available right away. If there's an inconclusive, especially if it's just like one question, they might want another examiner to give their opinion, and it might take them a few days to arrange for that, since they're asking for services from another agency.

Don't take that to the bank though, because it's just from my memory, and I didn't try to look it up again to confirm it.

edit - I just saw the information came from 'sources', in which case I'm figuring they just don't know the results. And if they're saying they have to wait for the results, that would be so unusual that I figure they're nowhere near close to the investigation.

I thought the person who administered the test could determine with the test in progress? I wonder if there were two analysts?

I took one once (LD test) and was told at the conclusion that I had passed. No waiting.

My guess is what someone above suggested -- they may be having someone else review the results if some responses were 'iffy' or inconclusive. I'm on the fence about this. I'm sure an innocent mother would agree to a LDT if it means focusing on the abductor. But OTOH why would LE ask her to take one if they didn't doubt her story? :waitasec:

I really don't know what to think at this point.

Just like in missing child cases where they give the parents polygraphs - to rule them out, and help narrow the field.

I know, I'm not sure what to think anymore either..Maybe that's the plan to make the real perp think he and she are not being focused on..

Something must not have added up, IMO. Perhaps something perfectly innocent, but this does not sound usual at this point in a case.

They only had 35 tips as of last night. One week and only 35? Dang. I hope the first comment isn't true either. Sad she had to experience what she has.

Police Search Homes of Registered Sex Offenders in Investigation of Abduction of 5-Year-Old

On Tuesday, police returned to the neighborhood where they served several search warrants at the homes of registered sex offenders. Police tell NBC10 they are trying to generate more leads in the case because so far they’ve only received about 35 tips.

The father of the girl told NBC10 the family is making arrangements to homeschool the girl because she is still too traumatized to return to school.

its standard practice to use these on anyone close to a missing person/homicide/criminal case. its not a big deal, just standard procedure.

I know it is, but generally in the first day or two, was my meaning. It seems unusual to do this more than a week later, after much investigation, at least to me.

Maybe the mother was taking medications and LE needed her to be clean to take the test?

Mom's been tied up with caring for the little girl. The child was taken to the hospital a few days after the kidnapping, and we don't really know anything about her physical and emotional condition. Under those circumstances, a voluntary polygraph is a second priority, imo. There's more urgency when a child is still missing.

Do we know if LE requested the polygraph? It might have been her lawyer's idea to cover all of the bases and eliminate any trace of suspicion about his client. Seems like the prudent thing to do, especially if he intends to pursue a civil case down the road. JMO

I think, more surprising to,me, is that LE has not been able to figure this out and make arrests. I really thought it would happen within a day or two. So the idea of a polygraph now, if true, makes me fear they are no closer.

It seems like the parents are cooperating, it seems reasonable she would prioritise caring for a very traumatised child over a formality if she isn't a real suspect. I can't say I read too much into confiscated either ... I mean he may well be irritated to lose his phone knowing he is innocent at such a stressful time already if he thinks it is pointless - but still cooperates but complains about it. Or readily gave it up and the need for a warrant is for legal purposes.

I really think the parents being involved in the investigation is one of the only visible things happening hence the slant. I hope I am not wrong because if this was planned by a parent, gah ... I know parents are capable of horrific things but this would be a very cold, callous perversion of what it means to be your child's protector.

Someone knows who these nutjobs are. If her freer is still alive hopefully she will be able to come forward shortly.

This is the broadcast I saw 2 nights ago, at the time a watched it, it seemed a bit clearer and longer but I don't know. Only 35 tips as of last night and no arrest yet. I hope this case is solved soon!!
