It would be very sad if finding a cop killer became all about money.
It is Filby's fault that the money needs to be spent.
Not that he cares about that, having likely accepted govt payments (tax payer money) for years while railing against the govt.

Bombshell revelations about Dezi cop killings
“Bombshell new details have emerged of the moment Dezi Freeman escaped and the tragic final moments of two police officers he shot dead.The Australian has reported an eyewitness account allegedly recorded by Freeman’s middle child that revealed how it all went down on the Freeman’s family’s Hino bus on August 26.
“We have a search warrant,’’ an officer shouts, referring to an alleged child sex offence.
“Can you please not barge in? I have a kid, please,” Freeman’s wife, Amalia – or “Mali” – pleads as cops tell Freeman, 56, to come out.
The recording shows they used a crowbar to try to force their way in as Freeman yells at police to stop.
Three family members, including a young child, are trapped in the bus as the shouting ensues for close to 30 minutes.
In a final act, Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, throws his body, feet-first, into the upper part of the door.
He is shot dead along with his colleague Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart, 35.
Freeman also points a homemade shotgun at a fourth officer, but the weapon misfires.
His family scatter after a third officer is hit. They are shaken up but ultimately make it to Porepunkah after being picked up near the orchard.

I agree. However if Filby got away in the early days, it appears that police did not have this Intel and searched and searched all leading to zero. It's sad they have come up with nothing. And all the time people in the area had lost money from their businesses. I don't really understand why they kept searching and kept the park locked when there doesn't appear that there was any evidence of Filby.

I imagine that they had to do all the searching they could to be confidant in the decision to re-open the park ( just like they did the intensive search around the property with the help of NZ operatives ) before they re-opened up Porepunkah businesses etc
Could you imagine if they just stopped searching, after say a few weeks & than the next week a family happened to stumble across Filby in the park & he killed them all. He remains very dangerous ( if alive obviously ) & has nothing to lose. Imagine the headlines blaming the cops.
The Police has so much to weigh up with every decision they make. I'd hate to be the one making those calls

New development in search for fugitive alleged cop killer Dezi Freeman
Police have given a major update almost two months into the search for fugitive and alleged cop killer Dezi Freeman.On Friday, Victoria Police said the search had been handed over to Taskforce Summit, which will be based in the Great Alpine area and led by detectives from the crime command state anti-gangs division.
The taskforce will also include specialist resources from the fugitive squad, armed crime squad, Viper taskforce, special operations group, search and rescue squad, and local remotely piloted aircraft systems members
Victoria Police said the homicide squad would continue leading the investigation into the alleged murder of the two officers.

Andrew Rule put up an article last night - one which heavily leans on both the search for Filby and the search for little Gus in SA.
The thrust of the article is that Australia needs more search dogs. And more cadaver dogs.
Saying that the fact that Vic borrowed cadaver dogs from NSW in the search for Filby goes to show that it is obvious that trained dogs are several thousand times better than humans at sniffing out a particular target.
Andrew cites examples of dogs quickly finding various people and electronic devices in different situations - once the dogs were called in.
He wonders if the Vic police chief ever thinks of what might have happened if they had dogs at the site within 2 hours of Filby killing two police officers.
Andrew says that it should be easy for searchers to have instant access to tracking dogs. (I agree)

Hopefully the day will come where there are dogs at every police station. Our local police beat cop lived in the local area and he would take his German Shephard on patrol with him. The dog was not a trained police dog. Just man's best friend. That cop turned the kids attitudes around within a few months.
I would like to hear more about that. Did the kids form a relationship with the dog and that set them up for different ways of relating to people? Or did they take fright at the dog and decide they'd best give up crime?

They took one look at the dogs teeth and gave up the life of crime. The cop and the dog lived among us in our small community and the kids knew they would be caught. He was a great cop and ended up having a great relationship with the kids. He got them a bmx track that they wanted. OT, my 88yo father used to ride that track.

A man arrested for allegedly holding a poster of suspected Victorian gunman Dezi Freeman at an anti-immigration rally in Adelaide will be issued with a caution by SA Police and will not face any criminal charges.
SA Police previously said they had arrested a 39-year-old man from Golden Grove after he was allegedly seen holding a placard depicting alleged police killer Dezi Freeman at a March for Australia event on August 31.
Lee Roberts was expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today, but police said they would not be pursuing a prosecution and would instead issue an adult caution notice.

"They can go in 500 metres, and then there'll be a shaft, and then it might go another 500 metres to the left or to the right, it could be five km of tunnels underground," he told A Current Affair.
Kamp says searching through them all would be an incredible feat, as many are dangerous and at risk of collapse.
