Given his annoyance over dirt bikes was what started the whole thing with the neighbour a few years ago (the dispute reported on by 'A current affair"), I reckon it could be quite a trigger for Dez.

‘Oh my god, it’s Uncle Des’: The spiralling descent of an alleged police killer

This article states a few things I had not known

DF shot Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson thru the door of the bus.

Than opened a window of the bus and shot Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart

Another detective seriously wounded in the attack is understood to have hidden under the bus for up to an hour until paramedics arrived.

Alot about DF's history also in this article, I'll try paraphrase later when I have time, if no one else does

We knew this first statement on 27 August was a play on words!!!

6.17am. 27 August 2025
“Dezi Freeman’s partner and children went to a police station late last night. No evidence suggests the family was with the suspect after the incident, according to Paul Hogan, a Victoria Police spokesman.”

Compared to the statement now:-

4.16pm. 3 September 2025

“On the ninth day of the massive manhunt for Freeman, who allegedly killed the officers as he was being served a warrant at his home in Victoria’s alpine country, Crime Command Detective Superintendent Jason Kelly told reporters Amalia Freeman was home at the time her husband allegedly opened fire.”

My opinion only.
Offering a reward is low on the priority list for Police. Maybe down the track when they've exhausted all avenues of inquiry. The Police don't need to offer a reward to get what they want at this point.
I should imagine that every single member of the Police are still absolutely furious. Firstly for what was done to their mates, and secondly if they now possibly feel that they are being made fools of. I can't imagine them being in the frame of mind to reward anyone who has been helping this murderer.

So terribly sad and terrifying for those innocent men.

To whoever knows where Dezi is, please say something. You know that this behaviour has caused immense pain and grief for so many people. Bring safety to everyone in the Porepunkah area and to Dezi too, call 000 and let them help.

IMO

From that article, it sounds as though Filby had fully plunged into the conspiracy theorist world by Christmas 2018.
As he is said (by his nephew) to have spent that Christmas regurgitating fanatical views about religion, doomsday theories, and an impending apocalypse, to his extended family who had grown weary of hearing about it.

picnic time for Dez...
The cost of these things are quite high, considering he would have to buy in bulk.

oo I had a look at the contents, only 10 sheets of toilet paper.. hmm..
And a very serious paucity of chocolate!

Very interesting, thanks for pointing that out. A very informative article compared to all the others I've read.

It is. As you said very formative.

Wanna have a go at paraphrasing it ? ;)

Imagine the poor officer injured, lying under the bus, waiting for help, in pain, with his 2 colleagues dead near by not knowing where the gun man was...............must have been so scary.

And the alleged shooter's wife did not offer any first aid either...................

What a pair of ...................

A bit more in the latest SMH article ... (paraphrased)

Filby has a huge ego, a real jealous streak, wanted what others had but was not prepared to work for it - according to an acquaintance.
Another family member said that Filby was always upset with someone for having better than him.

In 2012, a close neighbour saw a marijuana crop growing on the property and told Filby to dig it up. Filby flipped out on the neighbour, screaming and saying he would shoot him.

Travellers urged to turn back in 'intense' police hunt for accused cop killer Dezi Freeman

“Police have asked travellers heading to Bright, Falls Creek or Mount Hotham in Victoria's high country to avoid the area and take different routes.
Crews from the Specialist Operations Group, Fugitive Squad and VIPER taskforce make up the "intense" police presence across Porepuknah and beyond.”

ADMIN NOTE:

Ease up on the comments about disability. He may very well be fully entitled (as evidenced by his receipt of same) based on conditions other than physical.

Case in point analogy ... a person suffering from a mental health condition / invisible disability may physically be able to outrun someone who does not have those conditions.

Yep I read this early on In media reports. It was a full blown execution of these two officers. They were wearing bullet proof vests and he shot them in the head. They never stood a chance.
