Preliminary Report Human Remains are not Hailey

Hailey is/was a high profile case (??) Perhaps they assumed based on the location? I don't have the answers as to why anyone would leak anything, frankly. It not only hurts loved ones but it could also result in hampering an investigation.

I think we all learned a hard lesson. Unless it comes from LE (not sources !), then we shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Well if it IS a dressed elderly man there was no need for the cops to speculate or at least not in reference to it being Hailey:(

I agree with the above...they knew what clothes Hailey had on when she disappeared!! maybe they were thinking someone changed her, but really if the clothes were different to what she had on and male, you would think they would have kept their mouths shut knowing there was a chance this was not her!

I am just thinking aloud here (with a keyboard!) and have probably watched too many detective shows, but could they be coy and a bit misleading with the truth about the remains to trick BD and boyfriend into saying something that might incriminate them???

Yep probably too far from reality these days as I suppose this could lead to some form of civil suit by them or them using coersion as some form of defense.....

I hope this link works; I'm posting from my phone. According to Linda Anderson, public information officer for the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office, the remains appear to be a fully-clothed elderly man.

There is no way that someone could mistake that for HD. Basically it means that someone put out a fake "leak" essentially to put the family through hell.

Are we at all sure that anyone officially associated with law enforcement started or encouraged the rumor or did the media start it with "sources" and it took off from there? I don't remember seeing any specific person named as stating it was Hailey but I might have missed it in the mass of posts.

But a lot of people had the opportunity to deny the leak but for whatever reason chose not to.

Sorry to rain on this parade, but after all the rumors... The Examiner site is not MSM, they are 'citizen journalists' the same as you and I are... when I google for the source of this story, the most recent one from MSM with her name is from last Thursday. http://www.cbs7kosa.com/news/details.asp?ID=33446

I mean, sure, Roy B could have called her and she might have told him that, but I am a little gun shy after last week.

There is no confirmation in that article that an autopsy has even been done. It says that DNA samples would have to be taken, which indicates to me that they are not just waiting for DNA results. Wouldn't every autopsy of an unidentified body involve the collection of samples for testing DNA as well as drugs?

Anderson further stated that the age of the body is not know, but appears to be that of a fully-clothed elderly man.

MOO, this is not new "bombshell" info, it is the same visual observation we learned about days ago with the added detail that the male might be elderly and wearing clothes.

Mind you, the judge who is now the M.E. for Howard County told news media last week that he saw the head and torso and did not see any clothes at all, not even bits of fabric!

MOO :moo:

I feel like Im in the twilight zone with this case. These remains remind me of the early days when PK was doing press statements and speaking from both sides of his mouth.

I feel like I have whiplash. Anyone else?

How did this go from "Likely Hailey" to "Male Child" to "Elderly Male" in ten seconds flat? :waitasec:

Was it ever suggested it was a male child? it went from small skull and hand, hair description, potential items belonging to Hailey >>> not Hailey, male. The young male was speculation based on previous descriptions of the body that may have been Hailey?

Tshirt and sweat pants - not unusual attire for anyone from baby to eldery, so if they were in a bad condition I can imagine that not being an obvious tell vs if the man had on a button down shirt and khakis or something.

But a lot of people had the opportunity to deny the leak but for whatever reason chose not to.

It is not the responsibilty of LE to deny (or comment on one way or another) speculation in the media. Reporters are supposed to do their own investigation, but in this case they clearly did not.

Some police forces to comment on things like that, or hold press conferences to speculate themselves, but that is not a professional thing to do. A good police force will update the press when there is a material event, or if there is a pressing public interest at stake. It is not their role to judge, they are supposed simply to investigate and gather evidence impartially. Judgement and rhetoric should only begin once the lawyers get involved, that is their arena, not LE's.

I suspect that is how law enforcement is done for the most part in rural areas like that. They are generally not the most professional forces around.

Actually i think the reporters DID do there investigating but went by what they was told by various people.

Cops didn't speculate. The media did. Cops never confirmed one way or the other. There were other missing people out there with families waiting to know if this was their loved one. I think it would be irresponsible and cruel for them to come right out and say the deceased was male without doing a preliminary autopsy and advising the loved ones that their grandfather, father, son, brother, uncle......may be have been found dead.

Ironically, we're doing the same thing again. We're running with the assumption that this was an elderly man and clothes were still on him. Has that been confirmed by LE?

IMO..it was obvious from the start ( according to whats now being said that this was not Hailey. For that reason..I dont understand why the police allowed the speculation to go on knowing it was destroying Haileys family. They could have said from the start that it wasnt Hailey but that further information wasnt available at this time.

I don't think LE knew it was a male until they did the preliminary autopsy. Again, we're running with the assumption that they knew based on one (as far as I'm aware - the Examiner), media report that the deceased was wearing elderly man's clothing. LE never said that.

PK was former FBI....and the remains were sent to Ft Worth. I'm seriously not putting anything into what has been reported so far...unless it can be backed up with other MSM. As far as The Examiner...if it's not Isabelle Z, then I take it with a great grain of salt. IMO.

JMO, it seems both articles are a way to satisfy and abate the curious...for some reason. Just like PK did. I'm not a ME by a long shot, but the authorities KNOW by now (if there were bones and teeth) more about this person. How tall he was, approx age within 10 yrs, approx weight, what previous injuries, ethnicity, how long the remains had been there, etc. The only things they would be waiting on would be toxicology and DNA. Were they able to get fingerprints...did they match anyone in system? Why is MSM not reporting anything at this point? (I'm still catching up...so..) LE's holding back for some reason...still..
IMO

Out of curiousity..if a "local" wanted to come and post on here and be verified..how local does the person have to be? Its just that i would like to ask a friend of mine who spent time with Billie and other family members last week to come on here and describe things as she saw them for herself last week..and not just having information from newspapers.

There is a link to become a verified local or professional posting here. Tricia will verify their credentials and then they can post under their "hat" with approval from WS as a "verified local".

Your friend could maintain confidentiality on the board but still be verified by WS staff as a local. We would love to hear this personal perspective if at all possible.
