Forget the brace. What happened to her hair and how did she get highlights? Did she cry to the judge that her gray didn't line up with a "young girl?" She had eyeliner on the other day, which could have been from her pencils. But, there is no way she could get those highlights from being outside 1 hour a day? Maybe it's the camera angle or no shower/greasy hair day. Odd. Sorry to quote her pic. Maria is looking a little rough. Didn't even recognize her.

Maybe she's been hoarding her urine for some do-it-yourself prison streaks.

As far as I know, the WS TOS do not allow me to answer legal questions without first becoming verified. :(

That requirement is for legal only threads such as we have had for caylee Anthony trial. This is general thread so go for it as to your opinion ....without being verified . :Moo:

I'll bump for mod to explain and correct as needed

I didn't know there were more than one use for urine. Last night it was a MaDonna cure all for athletics feet.

:seeya: Hi rose,

BBM: Yes, the tweets that were tweeted early on made it appear as though JSS was coming down on the defense ... and then BOOM ... JSS rules AGAINST Juan and gives the DT more time !

:happydance: And I was so glad that camera was there ... it was such a relief to see Juan !

DGC :seeya:

More lip service from the Judge. What makes this case different from other capital cases we've seen where things have gone on smoothly and swiftly? The defendant runs the courtroom in this case so anything goes. Sealed testimony, you got it! A whole week without testimony, okay! Inconvenience the jury and possibly lose some of them by throwing a tantrum and wanting an extra month (at least), sure thing! And victims' rights? What's that?

I just watched the video of today's proceedings and JSS is looking rough. She was nervous. She wouldn't make eye contact. She weighed each and every word carefully before she very hesitantly, cautiously and carefully said them. I am not a speed typist and I could have left the video running and typed what she said without having to pause and catch up.. She kept looking up, like she was remembering something she had memorized. She was insecure. This video really makes me nervous. This trial has reached some kind of climax and she is floundering. All my opinion of course.

I agree. She looked like she was about to cry. Whatever the reasons are for this atrocious turn of events and her unfathomable rulings, it's obviously VERY hard on JSS. She's under some extreme pressure from something or somebody.

From the Wikipedia entry on "urine":

"Cleaning

Due to the fact that urea in urine breaks down into ammonia, urine has been used for the cleaning properties of the ammonia therein. In pre-industrial times urine was used – in the form of lant or aged urine – as a cleaning fluid.[31] Urine was also used for whitening teeth in Ancient Rome."

If it can whiten teeth, hair should be simple enough to lighten with it. Stinky, but you work with the tools you have at hand ... or ... um ... in your cell.

How many times has KN asked to be taken off this case? How many times has JA requested he be dismissed as her atty.? Why was this never granted? In the question of appeals, seems to me a defendant facing the DP should be able to fire an atty. they have no confidence in. For whatever nefarious reasons that JA wanted KN gone, it should have been granted.

It would have delayed this trial, probably years more. And recall that at one time JA wrote a lengthy letter to JSS begging her to keep Nurmi on. Also if granted, what would prevent all criminal defendants from delaying their trial indefinitely by firing each and every one of their attorneys at the 'appropriate' time?

I think Charles Ng did exactly that and delayed his trial for many years in. He used every delay tactic he could think of and then some, but switching (not to mention suing) lawyers (who then needed time to catch up) was an ongoing theme.

It's possible that the DT's delaying tactics could have a backlash against JA, KN, et al with members of the jury. At the very least, I hope members of the retrial sentencing jury can see through the flagrant manipulation.

I cannot for the life of me understand after yesterdays appeal hearing how they are getting away with more "secret" sidebars when the jury is not even in the room. Is it so difficult for the judge to understand? Really, this is pitiful.

The 'secret witness' is still officially secret, at least until the COA makes their final ruling. Perhaps the sidebar discussions would have revealed their identity prematurely.

Also note the delay until the 12th is not due solely to this issue. Nov. 10th and 11th were already pre-scheduled dark days.

Thank you! I wondered if that was him--or possibly Dan Freeman, since the photos of the Grand Canyon trip were being viewed by the defense.

No way would the Freeman's testify on Jodi's behalf ever again. At the time they testified they were only aware of the intruder story & was unaware of Jodi's confession or her allegations against Travis. They had avoided any information about the case from the time they were advised they may be called as a witness.

Renee100, her body language spoke volumes. I felt incredibly sorry for her. She seemed almost hurt. Strange word, I know, but I think she has done everything possible to ensure a fair trial for the defendant. She has been criticised extensively for the painstaking efforts applied and now she gets unfairly thrown under the bus too. No surprise there but it must sting being under COA scrutiny. Perhaps she is injured by the challenge to her authority, in such a public way? I was interested to observe the COA judges on camera. They all sounded extremely nervous. Judge Sherry Stephens has been remarkably calm and eloquent throughout. She has seemed knowledgeable and aware - on top of everyday matters. I'd love to hear Juan Martinez' and Travis' familiy on JSS. What do they think of her?

That is exactly what I thought she looked like when Juan mentioned that she has discretion.

I do wonder whether a ruling being overturned in a murder trial is common and is it something a Judge might normally feel quite stressed/hurt about...

If they remember the autopsy photos and the way that this criminal is trying to blame everyone else for her actions then they will come back with a verdict of death.

You know all I heard watching the video of the hearing was nurmi going wah wah wah we didn't get out own way my client the butchers right is more important than The victims

JSS definitely stated at the end of that sidebar that when court resumes on the Wednesday of next week that it would be with witness testimony. Nurmi wants to file papers with the COA & they have to be filed by Friday, so JSS has given him until Friday to do that, then from Wednesday the trial proceeds.

Judges aren't used to being exposed to questioning of their authority - in such a public way - in the middle of a sentencing trial, are they? Even being scrupulously fair to the defense hasn't saved JSS from Nurmi's bleating about the rights of his slaughtering, savage, convicted client. Why do notorious trials turn into circuses?
