This judge is very disrespectful- calling him "honey"? (is this a real court? I never watched it)

I saw this episode when it aired. I actually really like Judge Marilyn Milian. English is her second language and you would never know. She is from Miami and her father and brothers are in construction. She is very compassionate. The defendant was so arrogant, as you can probably tell, and the Judge was embarrassed she called him honey, but she calls everybody honey, probably out of habit. She is married and has 4 daughters I think. Loved Jimmy Kimmel's take on this!

Today is September 21, only eight days from the scheduled start of trial/jury selection for Arias' penalty phase. Seems like the end of delays is finally in sight. Other than Arias, I can't imagine anyone wanting to prolong this any further. Justice will not be denied!

I sure hope that we have delayed stream to watch while this retrial takes place. I think it is going to be uglier than the first trial in many, many ways.

There sure has been one hella a side show taking place over the past 6 weeks or so. While it can be entertaining, or stir up emotions, in the end it is just a distraction from the most important issue of what will be the penalty for Jodi Ann Arias for the especially cruel murder of Travis Alexander. Directly related to that were the hearings, minute entries and updates to the docket this past week. Comments/Observations:

  • 9/16/14 hearing- end date of trial December 12. This is much different from 16 day trial previously mentioned in minute entry. Makes me think this will indeed be ugly and that there will be a lot of testimony not directly related to mitigation.
  • Motion for out-of-state deposition- wonder if this is the defense expert Nurmi mentioned before in court back in July who refused to be deposed?
  • Motion to quash subpoena- my gut tells me Martinez has subpeonaed jail records and DT is trying to quash this.
  • Notice of potential mitigation witnesses- best guess is that Martinez is adding to his list after deposing Arias' civilian witnesses

Long past due for Arias to head off to Perryville. Given what we've seen since her conviction, the big question is will she still find a way to stay in the limelight from Perryville?

Took down the hummingbird feeder a couple of days ago and cleaned, stored it away for next spring. I'll miss those sweet, little creatures. May they have an easy migration.

hummingbird_feeder.jpg

They're beautiful. I love birds. When we were small we played poker with our father and I won enough once and I bought a parakeet from the TG&Y.

Anna is getting closer to being home. She's told her daddy to finish sanding her floors before her October 13th birthday. She has a list, and one is she's getting a pair of finches. Not the ones flying all over our backyard, but special ones. Oh and mom I need a special cage for them.

My grandson found a Quaker Parakeet in our backyard, and we brought it in and made it a home. it was really sweet until it saw my husband and he called DH an a*****, and dh said what did he say then the bird (we were now calling it Pollie/Paulie) called him a MF. We think the "previous: owners was a man with glasses and a mustache. He also did the wolf whistle and danced and could sound like the lawnmower for hours on end.

When she was four she wanted a climbing dome and her daddy said no, so Anna got on her little knees, holding her hands ,and said "daddy I don't ask for much" we were in the car and on our way within ten minutes.

I thought of missy going to Perryville today. What is she going to experience there and for how long- the rest of her life or, after possibly receiving the DP, for maybe 12 years 'til she is put to death?

I feel kind of numb after doing some research this afternoon; not because of what I found out about what her conditions might be, but because this research led me to people who are already sentenced to death/prison and some of their feelings about what they did.

I was looking for some reasons why they murdered and, maybe, some inkling of remorse from them- some semblance of a human being there. I didn't find the remorse, at least not from the few Ytube's that I viewed (except from Fredrick Baer in the Indiana State Prison, IMO- Interview with a Death Row Prisoner). I wish I could watch more, but because of my BW, I can't. Right now I feel so numb with how some of these people murdered their victims that I'm kind of glad, in a way, that I'm limited on my BW- if you can understand that. I need a break from these people (if they even are "people", IMO). I cannot relate to them in any way and I still don't understand why they needed to murder someone.

Anyway, here's what I found about conditions on Death Row in Perryville- if anyone is interested:
---------------------------------
Will life be a box of cherries and Commissary Snacks for Arias????

(I didn't really like this article so much because of the digs to Sheriff Joe. Hey- jail/prison is not suppose to be a resort and if you broked the law- no matter what it was- you need to pay, is what I'm saying. I don't care what kind of life you had, you still need to follow the rules of life that other people follow, IMO. That's what makes our lives civilized. I just know that God will judge me very harsely when it's my time because I tend to judge harsely when it comes to crime, but that's OK because I try to be a good person in everything in every way and I do have compassion for people. We're all fighting the fight in life, but make sure it's the "good" fight. Anyway- sorry but I tend to go on and on and I guess I'm angry right now after watching these people talk.)
"...But life inside a maximum-security prison is not all hard times and labor. In fact, some prefer the maximum section of the prison. It is here that one is allowed their own TV and sometimes Internet. No mass TV room, no waiting but no privacy from the guards either. It really is life in a fishbowl. But, for a narcissist like Arias, this will suit her perfectly..."

"...Perryville has no air conditioning for the inmates, only evaporative coolers that can’t keep up with the sweltering summers. Milke is limited to three showers per week and had to decide to sleep on the concrete floor where it’s cooler or in her sweat filled bunk....
Her life is absolutely solitary confinement. She sees staff members at meal times when her food is delivered. She is chained up like an animal whenever she leaves her cell for visits or exercise...."

Just some thoughts: :blah:

Your life is your own fault. Why can't people say,“I made this mess, it’s my fault.” It’s so easy to blame others for our problems and this is especially the case when you are in jail, I might imagine. We all make mistakes but the most important thing is to own the mistake, take responsibility for it, apologize for it and learn from it so you don’t do it again.

Your past is your fault, but so is your future. I believe that everything that happens has a lesson in it for us and it is our responsibility to learn the lesson so we don’t have to repeat it. I am a strong believer in jail and prison and punishment. I believe that all actions have consequences and that jail/prison is the correct consequence for many bad behaviors. None of these women/men get a pass from me.

So how did you spend your afternoon?

The article on William Blake that you posted way last thread has stayed with me and I try to imagine a life in a jail cell on death row. It's harsh life for sure, but it's the road they chose that led them there. I wonder if Jodi will go insane in there.

For anyone that's interested, I just realized the Michael Dunn retrial is getting under way tomorrow with jury selection. I really really really hope the jury figures it out this time and they get it right. J4JD.

He has already been sentenced for something like 50 years so he will never get out, even if the jury hangs. I believe it was 50 plus years. Have to check on that tomorrow.

Yes. It is a sentence worse... if only we'd never hear the name Jodi Arais, until the day they stick that needle in.
