2 new incidents investigated amid spate of freeway shootings

http://www.kpho.com/story/30000119/...mid-spate-of-freeway-shootings?autostart=true

[FONT=arial, verdana, sans-serif]Despite what you may have heard on TV news, no one of any official capacity in Phoenix has said this has anything to do with Muslim extremest. There were 2 different individuals about 7 years ago who were targeting the Beeline Highway down there, so this isn't Phoenix's/Maricopa county's first rodeo.

I hate it when some National entertainment news stations throw in "Jihadist", "Terrorism" and all those catch words to fluff up a story.
It's just some idiot, with a gun, who really has bad aim or doesn't want to actually kill someone.
If "Shot Spotter" was installed along I-10, they'd catch this guy quick, but it's only installed and active in the Glendale area.

Fight over Jodi Arias murder trial leads to vicious West Seattle assault

"...Detectives say Roman Benninghoven-Salado approached him and they started a conversation about the “Jodi Arias” murder trial.

Police say Roman got angry about a comment made by the victim, so he threw him to the ground and struck him multiple times with his fists and feet. The victim sustained a facial fracture and multiple lacerations as a result of the assault..."

Arkansas Governor Sets Execution Dates After 10-Year Gap

"Arkansas will resume lethal injections after a 10-year gap starting next month with the first of four double executions, Gov. Asa Hutchinson said Wednesday.

Arkansas hasn't executed an inmate since 2005, largely because of court challenges to its lethal injection law and a nationwide shortage of drugs often used during executions. But last week, Attorney General Leslie Rutledge requested execution dates for eight inmates because their appeals had been exhausted, and prison officials said they had an adequate supply of lethal-injection drugs.

Hutchinson set four dates through January, but acknowledged that challenges are likely..."

WHEN PARENTS TAKE THE BLAME — AND THE JAIL TIME

"After 12-year-old Rebecca Sedwick of Florida jumped to her death from a tower in an abandoned concrete plant in late 2013, the term “cyberbullying” was on the nation’s tongue for months. Two classmates were charged with tormenting the girl so viciously on social media and in person that she committed suicide. The charges of aggravated stalking (cyberbullying) were later dropped, and much of the blame landed not on Sedwick’s two classmates, but on their parents..."

ELIZABETH BÁTHORY: HISTORY’S MOST PROLIFIC FEMALE SERIAL KILLER (AUG 21, 2015)

"If power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, as Lord Acton once observed, then absolute power in the hands of a psychotic, sexual sadist can unleash the hounds of hell. Such was the case of Erzsébet “Elizabeth” Báthory, a late-16th-century Hungarian countess — and the most prolific female serial killer in history, whose murderous reign historians are still trying to make sense of today.

Four hundred years ago today, in August 1614, the notorious 54-year-old royal died under house arrest in Čachtice Castle in modern-day Slovakia, having been implicated in as many as 650 deaths — mostly peasant girls and servants..."

Across Much of US, a Serious Shortage of Psychiatrists

"It is an irony that troubles health care providers and policymakers nationwide: Even as public awareness of mental illness increases, a shortage of psychiatrists worsens...
Some psychiatrists are switching to a cash-only practice out of frustration with what they view as inadequate reimbursement from government and private insurance plans.
Another problem, Binder said, are the paperwork requirements imposed by Medicare and private insurance companies. "That interferes with our ability to have the time to sit with our patients," she said. "We need to decrease the administrative burden and increase the compensation."...

"There remain issues of stigma around mental disorders," said Kirch, a psychiatrist by training. "The people who suffer most from that are the patients, but we still see cases where psychiatry is devalued by some in the medical profession."..."

7 Things We Truly Miss About Old-School Dating
Ah, the good old days.

"Many of us remember, appreciate and long for the days of traditional dating. You know, proper courting. Yes, way before the world of swiping left and right, meeting solely for the purpose of one-night stands and the agony that is online dating, the game of love had, well, actual rules. Sort of.
We asked our Facebook followers to reminisce about some of the things they miss most about dating -- back in the day -- and we got an outpouring of responses. Here's what it seems we're all missing out on in the modern age:.."

Well, "Twin Peaks" is renovating parts of Northbend, Washington, where my lil' bro lives, as they continue the filming of episodes that will be shown on Showtime. The original series, 25 years back, filmed part of it's episodes in Northbend.
My brother said he'll take pics and pass them on............."That's a damn good cup of coffee". :floorlaugh:
He mentioned the diner and "sheriff's office" are getting "facials", lol!

I got a nice response from my senator Flake about the Endangered Species Act:

It applies to what we're looking at with the whole Salt River Horse situation.
Wolves? I think that should be Fed + State by State, giving the State *more* power to protect endangered species beyond the Federal, but not less.
Arizona Game and Fish protect my right to have wolf dogs, or any domestic/wild cross breed, where in several other States it does not. When I was active in the Wolfdog Alliance, the only city in Arizona which had a ban on wolfdog ownership was Tucson, don't know if that's still in effect.
Sarah Palin really chapped my hide with her wolf hunt rhetoric. If she claims the wolves are cutting into the elk herds in Alaska, maybe they need to cut back on the elk permits given out each year to out of state hunters. The Alaskan tribes should have their hunting rights, people off the grid 2nd, legal residents 3rd.
It's not the wolf that is bringing down the elk numbers, it's placing the hunt number higher than what nature can maintain.

Cattleman in Wyoming, Montana, and the like? Again, restrict the hunt number for elk and deer so the wolves can go after their natural prey..........but lets face it, cattle have been domesticated to the point of stupid. Take away their horns and they have no defense. Cattlemen are against wolves, and elk and bison<--brucellosis is passed on by those 2. This costs cattleman $$$ in vaccinations, they don't like that. Without wild herds to sustain the wolves, they go after cattle, which is like shooting fish in a barrel with a shotgun. Cattleman don't want to be bothered with wolf deterrents.

Then you have the situation back East where the wolf was all but disseminated, and the population of deer and coyote have gotten to the point of being dangerous and suburbanized. Put the wolf back in, and it will adjust.

Wolves, by nature, sustain themselves more on rodents, rabbits, mice, birds, etc., than big game. The old, young, and sick are what they go after as far as the bigger animals. The only predator for the wolf is man, which tends to keep coyotes, bears, mountain lions, and bob cats away from the territories.

Had to get that off my chest............:scared:

I don't think we have wolves in NY State anymore (except in the reserves), but we do have some sort of wild dogs (I hear them calling at night sometimes).

Will Wolves Return To The Adirondacks?

"...Hall is one of numerous wildlife advocates who are hoping state and federal wildlife agencies will work to facilitate the wolf’s return to the Northeast. Wolves disappeared from New York State around 1900 as a result of habitat destruction and unregulated hunting. Between 1871 and 1897, ninety-eight wolves were killed for bounties in the state, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Gray wolves are listed as endangered in the Lower 48 states, but largely because they have made a comeback out west, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed delisting them. Wolves also are on New York State’s list of endangered species. In December, however, the state Department of Environmental Conservation dropped cougars, lynx, and wolves from its proposed list of Species of Greatest Conservation Need. In the past, extirpated species had been on that list, which is part of the state’s Wildlife Action Plan.

“We feel that our conservation work is better directed at retaining viable populations of the species that are currently present in New York,” said DEC biologist Joe Racette, coordinator of the Wildlife Action Plan.

At this time, DEC has no interest in reintroducing wolves to the state..."

Hoping this posts!! Message from Tricia on Facebook:

We are having technical issues on Websleuths. Our tech guy is on top of it and hopefully we will be back to normal quickly. Please do not panic. Eat chocolate or drink to calm your nerves. Unless you are driving then don't drink. You can eat chocolate but keep your eyes on the road while you eat. They are really cracking down on chocolate eating and driving. It's called the CED law. No chocolate eating and driving unless you promise to watch the road. Where was I? Oh yes. Forum is down. Will be back up soon.
Love and chocolate kisses.

1999 : Standin' On The Corner Park opens in Winslow, Arizona. Inspired by the city's famous mention in the Eagles song "Take It Easy," the park features a statue of a man with a guitar standing on the corner. The park quickly becomes a popular photo op for folks passing through Winslow.

Oh my gosh, Bernina, that video looks like it was taken at my place! I live right on the edge of Algonquin Park.

"Algonquin Provincial Park is a provincial park located between Georgian Bay and the Ottawa River in Central Ontario, Canada, mostly within the Unorganized South Part of Nipissing District. Established in 1893, it is the oldest provincial park in Canada.[1] Additions since its creation have increased the park to its current size of about 7,653 square kilometres (2,955 sq mi). For comparison purposes, this is about one and a half times the size of Prince Edward Island or about a quarter of the size of Belgium."

I had to go to the city last week (hospital), aka metropolitan area. I so needed a few of them "fukitol" pills. I couldn't get home soon enough! Tranquility, serenity and nature at it's best.

Update on my broken arm. Last week I went to the doc and got an injection of steroids/lidocaine in my shoulder. It didn't help anything. The doc gave me a prescription for Mobik. I have to go for an xray and see him again next week. I have a huge knot or mass on the arm 5-6 inches or so below the shoulder and he thinks it is callous. Until he sees an xray he thinks I tore or pulled something in addition to the break and mentioned rotator cuff and surgery maybe. Will know more next Thursday.

Last week I borrowed a neighbors self propelled mower to cut the front .... and won't ever do that again!

Glad that you have such a peaceful refuge to call home. As a city person, I envy that perhaps more than anything else in the world! But I gotta make a living and the city is where the jobs are. :(

Please keep us posted on your health situation, and know that positive vibes are being sent your way many-times-over during any given day. :)

Wow, Daisymae, you've certainly been going through this ordeal for a long time. My heart goes out to you as you continue to suffer these long-term effects due to the fracture. Hope all goes well with your visit on Thursday and that you have some good news to share...
